Sewall Center. The Colonials are coming off an 84-76 setback @ Youngstown State (12/4/13), which wrapped up an 0-4 road trip and also marked RMU’s sixth consecutive road loss. Junior forward Lucky Jones paced Robert Morris against the Penguins with a career-high 24 points on 7of-10 shooting from the field, including 3-for-4 from deep, and a perfect 7-for-7 performance at the free-throw line. Senior guard Karvel Anderson added 18 points against YSU, while freshman forward Jeremiah Worthem contributed 12 points and a career-high eight rebounds. Senior forward Mike McFadden also scored in double figures, finishing with 10 points while adding four rebounds, two blocks and two steals. The Colonials will have a week off before returning to action after taking on the Rockets Saturday, returning to the road for a 2:00 p.m. tip against Duquesne at the A.J. Palumbo Center Saturday, Dec. 14.

Quick Stat of the Night - Barring injury, junior forward Lucky Jones should join the Robert Morris 1,000-point and 500-rebound clubs at some point during the 2013-14 campaign. Jones enters Saturday’s game against Toledo as RMU’s active leader in both points (813) and rebounds (462) and would need to average 8.5 points and 1.7 rebounds in the final 22 games of the 2013-14 regular season to became the 13th player in school history to eclipse both totals. Jones, who is averaging 13.6 points per game to rank second for the Colonials, has shown a penchant in getting to the free-throw line so far this season. Jones is 40-for-47 at the stripe in 2013-14, a success rate of 85.1 percent that ranks fourth in the Northeast Conference. Jones has converted at least six free throws in five of RMU’s nine games this season, including perfect 7-for-7 performances @ Eastern Michigan (11/14/13) and @ Youngstown State (12/4/13).

Head Coach Andrew Toole Fourth Season - Penn ’03 When it came time for Robert Morris University Director of Athletics Craig Coleman, M.D., to name a new head coach for the men’s basketball program, he didn’t have to look far.

Andrew Toole was introduced as the eighth head coach in the 38-year Division I history at a press conference at the Charles L. Sewall Center May 11, 2010, and the 2013-14 campaign marks his fourth season as head coach of the Colonials.

Toole signed a three-year contract extension at Robert Morris May 3, 2013, meaning he will lead the Colonials through the 2017-18 campaign. In four seasons under Toole’s tutelage, the Colonials have posted an overall record of 71-42 (.628), including a mark of 39-15 (.722) against Northeast Conference opponents.

In 2012-13, Toole led RMU to an overall record of 24-11 (.686). The Colonials claimed their 10th NEC regular-season championship with a ledger of 14-4 (.778), helping Robert Morris earn its fifth postseason appearance in the last six years. RMU earned a spot in the 2013 National Invitation Tournament (NIT), advancing to the second round thanks to a 59-57 victory over Kentucky (3/19/13) in front of 3,444 fans at the Charles L. Sewall Center, the largest crowd in school history. In the second round, the Colonials dropped a 77-68 decision at Providence (3/25/13).

In his first season at the helm in 2010-11, Toole guided RMU to an overall record of 18-14 (.563), including a mark of 12-6 (.667) in the NEC. The Colonials advanced to the championship game of the NEC Tournament, falling three minutes shy of earning its third straight title before falling in overtime at LIU Brooklyn, 85-82.

The following season in 2011-12, Robert Morris posted an overall record of 26-11 (.703), including a mark of 13-5 (.722) in the NEC. RMU tied a school record for victories, advanced to its fourth straight NEC Tournament championship game and earned its inaugural berth in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT). In the 2012 CIT, the Colonials advanced to the quarterfinals thanks to road wins at Indiana State and Toledo, marking the program’s first victories in a national postseason tournament since 1983.

Overall, Toole has been at Robert Morris six seasons. He spent the 2007-08 campaign as an assistant under former head coach Mike Rice (2007-10) before being elevated to Associate Head Coach for the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons. He is at the helm of an RMU program that has experienced unprecedented success over the last six years.

Since the beginning of the 2007-08 season, Robert Morris owns an overall record of 141-67 (.678), with the 141 victories both a school and NEC record for a six-year span. RMU’s 141 wins over the last six years is tied with Davidson for eighth among mid-major programs over that span, and the Colonials also own NEC records for victories over the span of three, four and five years.

While RMU's overall success is apparent, the program's accomplishments in the NEC are also clear.

Over the last six years, the Colonials have posted a mark of 85-23 (.787) against league opposition, having finished no lower than third over that span. Robert Morris won outright NEC regular-season titles in 2008, 2009 and 2013 and shared the title in 2010 with Quinnipiac.

RMU followed up its success in the regular season by becoming the first team in NEC history in 16 years to win back-to-back NEC Tournament championships by earning a 52-50 win over Quinnipiac in the 2010 NEC Tournament championship game in Hamden, Conn.

In 2008, the Colonials made their first appearance in the NIT, dropping an 87-81 decision to No. 1 overall seed Syracuse at the Carrier Dome. In both 2009 and 2010, RMU earned automatic berths to the NCAA Tournament thanks to winning its sixth and seventh NEC Tournament championships, respectively.

In the 2009 NCAA Tournament, the Colonials fell to eventual national runner-up Michigan State, 77-62, in the first round at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minn. In the 2010 NCAA Tournament, Robert Morris nearly upset No. 2 seed Villanova in the first round at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, R.I., before falling, 73-70, in overtime.

Prior to coming to Robert Morris in 2007, Toole spent the 2006-07 season as an assistant at Lafayette College in Easton, Pa. Between 2004 and 2006, Toole spent two years with The Hoop Group in Neptune, N.J., serving as the director of the Eastern Invitational Basketball Clinic and Rebounds, a 28,000-square foot facility where high school players focus on development.

Toole was a four-year starter at the Division I level, playing for Elon University (1998-2000) before transferring to the University of Pennsylvania (2000-03). Over his four-year career at Elon and Penn, Toole averaged 12.3 points per contest, finishing with 1,341 points in 109 games. He also posted averages of 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.2 steals per contest.

Toole married the former Brooke Kelly June 3, 2011, and the couple resides in the Pittsburgh, Pa., suburb of Mt. Lebanon with their son, Ryan.

Worthy Addition - Jeremiah Worthem has grown into his role with Robert Morris in his first season of Division I basketball, and the freshman forward came of age during RMU’s recent four-game road trip. Worthem has supplied the Colonials with averages of 11.8 points and a team-high 5.5 rebounds over his last four games while shooting 53.6 percent (15-for-28) from the field and 65.2 percent (15-for-23) at the free-throw line. During that stretch he established career highs for points (16) @ Cleveland State (11/23/13) as well as rebounds (8) @ Youngstown State (12/4/13). Overall on the 2013-14 campaign, Worthem enters Saturday’s game against Toledo averaging 8.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per contest.

A Streak Snapped - All good things must come to an end, and for Robert Morris, it had one of its most impressive streaks snapped in an 84-76 setback @ Youngstown State (12/4/13). The Colonials shot a season-high 50 percent (27-for-54) from the field against the Penguins, snapping a streak of 35 consecutive victories dating back to the 2008-09 campaign when RMU converted at least 50 percent of its shots from the floor. It also marked the first loss for Robert Morris under fourth-year head coach Andrew Toole when turning the trick, as the Colonials are now 20-1 (.952) under Toole when shooting at least 50 percent from the floor.

Finding A Rhythm - Junior forward Lucky Jones developed into one of the most accurate three-point shooters in the Northeast Conference in 2012-13 and after a slow start this season has begun to heat up from beyond the arc. Jones is coming off a four-game road trip in which he averaged 16.0 points per contest in large part because of his ability to convert from deep. Over the last four games, Jones has converted 53.3 percent (8-for-15) of his three-point field goal attempts. The surge has pushed Jones into a tie for 11th in the Northeast Conference so far this season in three-point field goal percentage at 36.8% (14for-38).

A Special Night Part Deux - Senior guard Karvel Anderson added to his legacy as one of the best three-point shooters in school history in an 88-81 win over UT Arlington (11/21/13), tying a Charles L. Sewall Center record for three-pointers by a student-athlete from RMU with eight. Anderson finished 8-for-10 from beyond the arc against the Mavericks en route to a team-high 24 points. It marks the second time Anderson has connected for eight threepointers in a game at “The Chuck,” as he also accomplished the feat in an 84-76 win over Ohio (12/1/12). Anderson, one of six Colonials in school history to bury eight three-point field goals in a game at the Sewall Center, is the first to turn the trick twice. Anderson heads into RMU’s tilt Saturday against Toledo leading the Colonials in scoring (18.1 ppg) while owning a team-high 30 three-pointers, an average of 3.33 per contest that is tops in the Northeast Conference.

Double Nickel On A Dime - Senior guard Anthony Myers-Pate dished out a season-high nine assists in RMU’s 88-81 victory over UT Arlington (11/21/13) to go along with 10 points, and thanks to his performance cracked the top 10 all-time in program history for career dimes. Myers-Pate enters Saturday’s game against Toledo with 352 career assists, which eclipsed former Colonial Jeremy Chappell (2005-09) for 10th all-time at Robert Morris.

Through nine games of the 2013-14 season, Myers owns 37 assists against 16 turnovers to rank third in the Northeast Conference in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.31) while ranking tied for seventh in the circuit in assists per game (4.11). In 110 career contests, Myers-Pate has proven to be a steady ball handler, posting a career 1.87 assist-to-turnover ratio.

International Waters - Robert Morris is coming off a record-breaking season in shooting from beyond the arc in 2012-13, and the Colonials have picked up right where they left off from a season ago. Through the first nine games of the 2013-14 season, RMU has converted 69 of its 188 attempts (36.7 percent) from beyond the arc. Robert Morris enters Saturday’s game against Toledo leading the Northeast Conference in three-point field goal percentage while ranking fourth in three-point field goals made per game (7.67). Robert Morris has drilled at least 11 three-pointers in each of its first three victories of the 201314 campaign, helping the Colonials improve to 26-3 (.897) in four seasons under head coach Andrew Toole when converting at least 10 three-pointers in a contest.

Comeback Kids - Robert Morris earned a 90-81 victory @ Lafayette (11/12/13) in its first road game of the 2013-14 campaign by climbing out of an 11-point deficit in the second half. The Colonials fell behind the Leopards, 59-48, with 14:01 remaining before coming back to tie the score, 70-70, and closing the game 15-6 run to earn the win. It marks the 10th time RMU has climbed out of a double-digit deficit to earn a victory in four seasons under head coach Andrew Toole.

The old record of 10 consecutive victories came against Wagner from Jan. 14, 1988, to Feb. 3, 1992. Robert Morris also tied its own record with its 11th straight win over Fairleigh Dickinson with an 89-46 win over the Knights at the Sewall Center Feb. 23, 2013.

THE GREATEST COMEBACK ...

Robert Morris put together its greatest comeback in school history in garnering a 74-72 win over Youngstown State (11/25/08) at the Charles L. Sewall Center. The Penguins held a 57-34 lead with 16:07 to play, but the Colonials closed the game on a 40-15 run to garner the victory. It marks the largest deficit on record that RMU has ever come back from in its 37-year Division I history. Former guard Bateko Francisco (2007-09) hit a jumper with 2.7 seconds to play that helped lift the Colonials to the win over the Penguins.

WE’RE STREAKING Thanks to an 83-79 overtime victory over Wagner (2/9/13), RMU stretched its run of consecutive winning seasons to eight, the longest streak in school history. Since the beginning of the 2005-06 campaign, the Colonials own an overall record of 172-92 (.651), including a mark of 104-40 (.722) in the Northeast Conference.

The Colonials earned a 91-38 victory over Bryant (2/3/11) at the Charles L. Sewall Center to not only establish a new school record in an NEC game but also tie the league mark. Scouting the Rockets - Coming off a 91-75 victory over Detroit (12/4/13), Toledo carries a perfect 7-0 record into its tilt with Robert Morris Saturday. The Rockets have eclipsed 90 points in five of their first seven games this season and are averaging 92.0 points per contest. Senior guard Rian Pearson, who scored 30 in the win over the Titans, leads Toledo in scoring at 17.7 points per game while shooting 58.5 percent (48-for-82) from the field. All five starters average in double figures for the Rockets, as junior guard Julius Brown supplies 15.3 points per game while junior guard Justin Drummond scores at a 14.6 points per game clip. The leading rebounder for UT is junior forward J.D. Weatherspoon, who pulls down an average of 5.3 boards per contest while averaging 10.0 points per game. The last starter, sophomore center Nathan Boothe, averages 11.1 points and 4.7 rebounds per contest.

Toledo Head Coach - Hired as Toledo’s 18th basketball coach March 30, 2010, Tod Kowalczyk (Minnesota-Duluth ’89) is in his fourth season as head coach of the Rockets and 12th year overall. He owns an overall record of 181-170 (.516), including a mark of 45-58 (.437) at UT. In his second season at the helm of Toledo in 2011-12, Kowalczyk guided the Rockets to an overall record of 19-17 (.528), one season after posting a mark of 4-28 (.125) in his first season in 2010-11.

RMU’s Last Game - Robert Morris concluded a four-game road trip, Dec. 4, by dropping an 84-76 decision to Youngstown State at the Beeghly Center. In a solid shooting night from both teams, RMU jumped out to leads of 9-6, 16-13 and 22-8 as junior forward Lucky Jones supplied the Colonials with early offense thanks to seven points. YSU grabbed a 23-22 advantage at the 7:23 mark of the first half when D.J. Cole hit a jumper, but senior guard Karvel Anderson answered with a three-pointer to put Robert Morris back in front, 25-22. The Penguins responded with an 11-2 surge that featured a pair of layups from Kendrick Perry and threepointers from Cole and Ryan Weber to open up a 33-27 lead at the 4:23 mark of the first half, forcing RMU to call a timeout. The Colonials were able to close to within 35-33 with 2:22 left before halftime thanks to a layup by senior guard Anthony Myers-Pate, but Youngstown State was able to take a 44-39 advantage into the break thanks in large part to 17 points in the first half from Perry, including a pair of three-pointers in the final 1:07 of the stanza.

Twice in the opening minutes of the second half the Colonials made it a one-possession game, but a 10-3 sprt gave the Penguins their first double-digit lead of the contest, 56-46, with 11:31 remaining. The cushion for YSU eventually swelled to 72-56 at the 6:03 mark of the second half after a layup from Cole before Robert Morris made one last charge late in the game. Trailing, 80-66, with 2:53 to go, the Colonials used a 9-1 run to close to within 81-75 with 1:07 left. Jones scored seven consecutive points for RMU, while Anderson converted a pair at the free-throw line. Youngstown State weathered the surge by Robert Morris and sealed the victory at the stripe, as Perry went 1-for-2 and Kamren Belin hit a pair in the final 32 seconds to hold off the Colonials. Perry led all scorers in the game with 27 points on 10-of-17 shooting from the floor, including 4-of-9 from beyond the arc. Jones paced the Colonials with a career-high 24 points, converting seven of his 10 shots from the floor, including 3-for-4 from deep, and finishing a perfect 7-for-7 at the stripe.

A Special Night - Senior guard Karvel Anderson put forth arguably the most impressive shooting display in school history last season in an 84-76 win over Ohio (12/1/12) at the Charles L. Sewall Center, hitting all 10 of his shots from the floor in the victory, including 8-for-8 from beyond the arc. Anderson is the first student-athlete in school history to post a perfect shooting night from the field with as many as 10 field goals. Since the beginning of the 200708 campaign, Robert Morris owns a record of 109-22 (.832) when holding its opponent to less than 70 points. In four seasons under head coach Andrew Toole, the Colonials are 58-15 (.795) when turning the trick.

Toole Time - Robert Morris is led by head coach Andrew Toole, who is in his fourth season at the helm of the program in 2013-14. In Toole’s 113 games on the sidelines, RMU has held its opponents to less than 70 points in 73 contests, an amazing 64.6 percent of the time. Robert Morris celebrated its 25th season of playing its home games at the Charles L. Sewall Center in 2009-10. The facility was dedicated in 1985 and named for the man who served Robert Morris as president from 1967 until 1989.

The Sewall Center has been the site where the Northeast Conference Tournament champion has been crowned in men’s basketball a total of five times in the last 28 years, with the Colonials winning four of those titles. RMU won the NEC Tournament on its home court in 1989, 1990, 1992 and 2009, while in 1986 No. 2 seed Marist won the championship with a 57-56 win over No. 1 seed Fairleigh Dickinson.

The 2009 NEC Tournament men's basketball championship game held at the Sewall Center featured the first sell-out crowd in school history, with 3,227 fans packed into the arena to watch Robert Morris post a 48-46 win over Mount St. Mary’s that was televised nationally on ESPN2. Former forward Dallas Green (2006-10) hit the game-winning shot with 2.2 seconds to play to help lift the Colonials to their sixth NEC Tournament title. In addition, the Robert Morris women’s basketball team claimed back-to-back NEC Tournament championships at the Sewall Center in 2007 and 2008.

The Need for Three Over the course of the last decade, converting the three-point shot and Robert Morris has become synonymous. Despite having its string of consecutive seasons with at least 200 three-pointers snapped at six by finishing with 197 in 2009-10, the Colonials are at the top of the Northeast Conference over the last 10 years in three-point field goals made per game. Since the start of the 2004-05 campaign, the Colonials have averaged 7.23 three-pointers per contest, ahead of LIU Brooklyn (7.17). Senior guard Karvel Anderson leads the Colonials so far in 2013-14 with 30 three-pointers, an average of 3.33 per game that leads the NEC.
