Quick Hits • The Robert Morris University men’s basketball team concludes a two-game homestand Saturday, welcoming Oakland to the Charles L. Sewall Center for a 4:00 p.m. tip.

• RMU opened its homestand by hosting a game at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pa., for the first time program history, earning a 64-60 victory over Duquesne (12/6/16).

Sophomore guard Isaiah Still converted a driving layup with 15.3 seconds to play to put the Colonials ahead for good and followed by blocking a layup attempt by Emile Blackman to help preserve the win.

• Sophomore guard Isaiah Still scored a game-high 22 points to pace Robert Morris against the Dukes, hitting seven of his 13 attempts from the field, including 4-for-4 from beyond the arc, while finishing 4-for-6 at the free-throw line. Still leads the Colonials and ranks seventh in the Northeast Conference in scoring at 16.1 points per game.

• Senior guard Kavon Stewart contributed 12 points, five rebounds and two steals in the win over the Dukes, while freshman guard Clive Allen added 11 points, five rebounds, three assists and three blocks.

• Robert Morris enters Saturday’s game against Oakland leading the Northeast Conference in scoring defense (67.5 ppg) and three-point field goal percent defense (.309) while ranking third in field goal percent defense (.438).

• The Colonials opened their December slate with a 64-58 setback @ Lehigh (12/3/16).

Sophomore guard Isaiah Still led RMU with 17 points, while senior guard Kavon Stewart contributed 13 points, four rebounds and three assists.

• Freshman guard Clive Allen registered his first career double-figure scoring game against the Mountain Hawks, scoring all 10 of his points in the first half. He also added four rebounds, two assists and a steal.

• In their last home game at the Charles L. Sewall Center, the Colonials dropped a 75-74 decision to Youngstown State (11/30/16). Matt Donlan buried a three-pointer with 16 seconds to play that helped the Penguins earn the victory.

• Senior guard Kavon Stewart paced RMU against Youngstown State with 21 points while also adding four rebounds, five assists and two steals. Redshirt senior forward Aaron Tate registered his first career double-double against the Penguins thanks to 11 points and a career-high 13 rebounds.

• Also reaching double figures for Robert Morris against Youngstown State was freshman guard Dachon Burke and sophomore guard Isaiah Still, who finished with 15 and 11 points, respectively.

• RMU concluded play in the Barclays Classic by winning the campus site championship thanks to a 67-66 victory @ Towson (11/26/16). The Colonials erased an 11-point deficit in the second half in earning their second consecutive win.

Head Coach Andrew Toole Seventh Season • Penn, 2003 • @AndyToole Presiding over the golden age of Robert Morris University men’s basketball is Andrew Toole, who is in his seventh season as the head coach of the Colonials in 2016-17.

Introduced as the eighth head coach in the program’s 41-year Division I history at a press conference at the Charles L. Sewall Center May 11, 2010, Toole signed a two-year contract extension at RMU April 15, 2015, and will lead the Colonials through the 2019-20 campaign.

In seven seasons under Toole’s tutelage, the Colonials have posted an overall record of 123-94 (.567), including a mark of 73-33 (.689) against Northeast Conference opponents.

Toole has overseen the most successful stretch in school history during his 10-year tenure at Robert Morris. Named an assistant coach under former head coach Mike Rice in 2007, Toole was elevated to associate head coach the following season before taking over the reigns as head coach in 2010.

During Toole's six seasons as head coach at RMU, the Colonials have claimed two NEC regular-season championships (2013, 2014), appeared in four NEC Tournament championship games (2011, 2012, 2014, 2015) and have made four national postseason appearances. Robert Morris played in its first CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT) in 2012, earned automatic bids to the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) in both 2013 and 2014 and appeared in the 2015 NCAA Tournament.

Four of RMU's five victories in a national postseason tournament have come under Toole. In 2011The Toole File 12, his second year as head coach, Toole led the Colonials to an overall record of 26-11 (.703).

Robert Morris tied a school record for victories by advancing to the quarterfinals of the 2012 CIT Birthdate: Sept. 11, 1980 Hometown: Red Bank, N.J. thanks to road wins over Indiana State and Toledo.

Age: 36 In 2012-13, RMU claimed its 10th NEC regular-season championship with a ledger of 14-4 (.778) in conference action and overall finished 24-11 (.686). Robert Morris earned a spot in the Alma Mater / Year: Penn / 2003 Degree: Bachelor of Arts (Political Science) 2013 NIT, advancing to the second round thanks to a landmark 59-57 victory over Kentucky in front High School: Christian Brothers Academy of 3,444 fans at the Charles L. Sewall Center, the largest crowd in school history.

RMU earned its second straight NEC regular-season crown in 2013-14 with a record of 14-2 (.875) in league play and finished 22-14 (.611) overall. For his efforts, Toole was named the 2014 COLLEGIATE COACHING EXPERIENCE: NEC Jim Phelan Coach of the Year. Led by a career-high 38 points from 2014 NEC Player of the Robert Morris University; Moon Township, Pa. - Head Coach (2010- ) Year Karvel Anderson (2012-14), the Colonials notched a win in the first round of the NIT for the Robert Morris University; Moon Township, Pa. second consecutive year with an 89-78 victory at St. John's.

- Associate Head Coach (2008-10) In the history of the NIT, a No. 8 seed has knocked off a No. 1 seed just four times, with Robert Robert Morris University; Moon Township, Pa. Morris owning two of those victories thanks to its wins over Kentucky and St. John's.

- Assistant Coach (2007-08) Toole guided Robert Morris to an overall record of 20-15 (.571) in 2014-15, including a mark Lafayette College; Easton, Pa. of 12-6 (.667) in the NEC. The Colonials finished in a tie for second place with Bryant in the league - Assistant Coach (2006-07) standings and as the No. 2 seed claimed the 2015 NEC Tournament title with a 66-63 win at No. 1 seed St. Francis Brooklyn. The win over the Terriers helped RMU secure its league-high eighth NEC PLAYING EXPERIENCE: Tournament title and subsequent bid to the NCAA Tournament.

University of Pennsylvania; Philadelphia, Pa. Robert Morris earned its first NCAA Tournament victory since 1983 and second overall in pro- Guard (2000-03) gram history by posting an 81-77 victory over North Florida as part of the 2015 NCAA First Four Elon University; Elon, N.C. at UD Arena in Dayton, Ohio. Two days later the Colonials fell to eventual 2015 national champion - Guard (1998-2000) Christian Brothers Academy; Lincroft, N.J. Duke, 85-56, in Charlotte, N.C. - Guard (1994-98) In his first season at the helm in 2010-11, Toole guided RMU to an overall record of 18-14 (.563), including a mark of 12-6 (.667) in the NEC. The Colonials advanced to the championship game of the NEC Tournament, falling three minutes shy of earning their third straight title before falling in overtime at LIU Brooklyn (3/9/11), 85-82.

Prior to joining the Robert Morris staff in 2007, Toole spent the 2006-07 season as an assistant at Lafayette College in Easton, Pa. While an assistant with the Leopards, Toole was responsible for helping recruit student-athletes that helped lead Lafayette to the 2010 Patriot League Tournament championship game against Lehigh.

Toole was a four-year starter at the Division I level, playing for Elon University (1998-2000) before transferring to the University of Pennsylvania (2000-03). Over his four-year career at Elon and Penn, Toole averaged 12.3 points per contest, finishing with 1,341 points in 109 games.

Toole and his wife, Brooke, were married June 3, 2011, and the couple resides in Pittsburgh, Pa., with their two sons, Ryan and Colin.

The Rookie - Freshman guard Clive Allen scored a career-high 11 points in a 64-60 victory over Duquesne (12/6/16) at PPG Paints Arena, and his final four points proved to be crucial. Allen went 4-for-4 at the free-throw line in the final seven seconds to help preserve the win. In addition to his 11 points, Allen tallied five rebounds, three assists and three blocks.

The rookie guard has settled in nicely for RMU, as over his last four games Allen is averaging 8.5 points per game while shooting 46.2 percent (12-for-26) from the field, including 50 percent (6-for-12) from beyond the arc.

Did You Know? In RMU’s first seven games of the season, a total of three ties and three lead changes took place. In the last three games, however, contests between the Colonials and their opponents have featured 31 ties and 44 lead changes.

Balancing Act - Senior guard Kavon Stewart has developed into a consistent secondary scorer for the Colonials the last few weeks, as he enters Saturday’s game against Oakland having averaged 14.4 points over his last five games while shooting 47.1 percent (24-for-51) from the field and 64.7 percent (22-for-34) at the free-throw line. Stewart has also balanced scoring with creating on offense, averaging 3.2 assists during that span while also producing an average of 2.2 steals per contest.

At The Rim - One of the most efficient players in the paint for Robert Morris has been senior forward Billy Giles. Giles contributed six points and four rebounds in a 64-60 win over Duquesne (12/6/16), converting three of his four shots from the field. Giles ranks second in the Northeast Conference in field goal percentage at 67.4 percent (31-for-46) and during his two-year career has shot 61.9 percent (151-for-244) from the field. The career school record for field goal percentage (minimum 500 points) is held by former forward Gabe Jackson, who shot 56.8 percent from the floor from 1992 to 1995.

Under/Over - The 2016-17 version of the Colonials are one of the youngest teams in head coach Andrew Toole’s seven-year tenure at RMU, as three freshman and three sophomores help make up the rotation. Through 10 games of the year, the Robert Morris underclassmen have supplied the Colonials with 49.5 percent (991-of-2,000) of the minutes played and 54.5 percent (337-of-618) of their scoring.

Rare Company - Senior guard Kavon Stewart put forth his most consistent effort of the 201617 season in a 67-66 victory @ Towson (11/26/16), supplying the Colonials with 15 points, six assists and five steals. The performance marks the third time in Stewart’s career he has scored in double figures and posted at least five assists and five steals in a game. The only student-athlete on record to do it more is former guard Tony Lee (2004-08), who turned the trick five times over the course of his junior and senior seasons. * NEC Tournament semifinals The Floor General - Thanks to five assists @ Richmond (11/20/16) in RMU’s first game of the Barclays Classic, senior guard Kavon Stewart became the 10th player in program history to eclipse 400 career assists. Stewart enters Saturday’s game against Duquesne with 420 career assists and needs 14 to move into ninth place all-time in school history. Stewart would need to average 6.5 assists per game over RMU’s final 21 games of the 2016-17 regular season to become the program’s all-time leader in dimes. The RMU career school record of 555 assists was established by former guard Forest Grant from 1980 to 1984.

Steal City - Robert Morris has consistently been at the top of the Northeast Conference leaderboard in steals throughout head coach Andrew Toole’s tenure, as the Colonials have topped the circuit four times (2012, 2013, 2014, 2016) under Toole and six times in the last nine years. Through 10 games this season, Robert Morris has compiled 70 steals, an average of 7.00 per game that is tied for second in the NEC. Senior guard Kavon Stewart ranks fourth in the league with an average of 1.80 per contest.

Comeback Kids - Robert Morris has made a habit of climbing out of double-digit deficits under Andrew Toole, and that bore fruit in a 67-66 victory @ Towson (11/26/16) to claim the campus site championship of the Barclays Classic. The Colonials trailed the Tigers, 51-40, with 10:19 to play before roaring back to grab their second straight win.

It marked the 23rd time under Toole the Colonials have erased a double-digit deficit in his seven seasons as head coach. On 21 of those occasions Robert Morris has earned a victory.

Start Me Up - Head coach Andrew Toole, who is in his seventh year at the helm of the Colonials in 2016-17, has already employed five different starting lineups this season.

Toole, who has won 123 games in seven seasons as head coach at Robert Morris, has used 57 different starting lineups during his tenure. That equates to an average of 2.16 victories per starting five. In his seven seasons on the sideline, Toole has used an average of 8.7 starting lineups per year.

Surf Board - The Colonials have been bolstered by the return of forward Aaron Tate in 2016-17, especially on the glass. Tate appeared in RMU’s first three games of the 2015-16 campaign before being shut down with a season-ending injury and is the program’s active career leader in rebounds with 394. He has a chance to join the 500-Rebound Club in his final season of eligibility. Tate has led the Colonials in rebounding in eight of their first 10 games of 2016-17 and owns a team-high 83 boards. He needs to average 5.0 caroms per contest over RMU’s final 21 games of the regular season to become the 18th member of the club.

Jersey Strong - Kavon Stewart entered his final season of eligibility in 2016-17 as RMU’s active leader in assists and steals and owns career totals of 420 dimes and 162 thefts.

Thanks to a pair of steals in a 64-60 victory over Duquesne (12/6/16), Stewart moved into 10th place all-time at Robert Morris for career steals. Stewart also has a chance to become just the seventh player in program history to eclipse 200 career steals, as he is 38 thefts away from the mark.

20/20- Sophomore guard Isaiah Still celebrated his 20th birthday in RMU’s opening game of the Barclays Classic @ Richmond (11/20/16) and took home game-high honors for scoring with 20 points. Still shot 6-of-12 from the floor against the Spiders, including 3-for-5 from deep, and posted a 5-for-6 performance at the free-throw line. He also tallied three assists and established a career high with four steals against the Spiders.

Still’s performance @ Richmond marked the second time this season he’s eclipsed the 20-point plateau, as he led the Colonials with a career-high 26 points @ DePaul (11/13/16). Still has eclipsed 20 points in a game four times during his career.

Protect This House - Robert Morris is playing its 32nd season at the Charles L. Sewall Center in 2016-17, and overall the Colonials own a record of 273-144 (.655) in the building. Since 2005-06, RMU has posted a record of 120-42 (.741) at the Sewall Center and in six seasons at “The Chuck” under head coach Andrew Toole, Robert Morris has compiled a record of 61-27 (.693). As part of its 2016-17 home slate, RMU is also playing a pair of games in Pittsburgh, Pa., at PPG Paints Arena. The Colonials won their first “home” contest at PPG Paints Arena, earning a 64-60 victory over Duquesne (12/6/16).

Robert Morris will also host Buffalo Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2016, in its other home game at the venue.

Firestarter - For the third consecutive year head coach Andrew Toole started a true freshman in the first game of a season, as forward/center Braden Burke got the call against Penn (11/11/16). Burke is the eighth true freshman to earn a start in his collegiate debut in the program’s 41-year Division I history. Burke joins Yann Charles (2010), Elijah Minnie (2014) and Matty McConnell (2015) to earn starts in their first collegiate game under Toole. Also earning starts in their first collegiate games were Forest Grant (1980), Keith Jones (1995), Jeremy Chappell (2005) and Jonathan Clark (2005).

Economical Margins The defensive pressure that Robert Morris has employed over the last nine seasons has allowed the program to post each of its top four totals for largest margin of victory against a Northeast Conference opponent in school history. The Colonials earned a 91-38 victory over Bryant (2/3/11) at the Charles L. Sewall Center to not only establish a new school record in an NEC game but also tie the league mark. The record was originally set when Wagner defeated Sacred Heart, 116-63, on February 22, 2000. In fact, only four games in league annals have been decided by 50 or more points, and RMU owns two of them.

Guard Matty McConnell became the second straight member of the Colonials to lead the Northeast Conference in steals against league foes in 2015-16. In 18 games as a freshman, McConnell finished with 43 thefts, an average of 2.39 per game. McConnell follows in the footsteps of guard Kavon Stewart, who recorded 33 steals in 18 league games in 2014-15, tying for league-high honors against league opposition with an average of 1.83 steals per contest. In 17 league games against the NEC in 2015-16, Stewart finished with 38 steals, an average of 2.24 per contest that ranked second in the NEC. As a team, Robert Morris paced the circuit in steals with an average of 8.94 per game.

Defense Wins Championships - At the heart of the resurgence of the Robert Morris basketball program since 2007-08 is defense. Thanks to a 64-60 victory over Duquesne (12/6/16) at PPG Paints Arena, the Colonials improved to 149-40 (.788) over the last nine seasons when holding their opponent to under 70 points. Under Andrew Toole, RMU owns a mark of 96-32 (.750) when turning the trick. Overall in the last nine years, RMU has held its opponent to under 70 points 58.9 percent (189-of-321) of the time.

Free Is For Me - Robert Morris went to the free-throw line a season-high 30 times in a 67-66 victory @ Towson (11/26/16) to close out the Barclays Classic, converting a season-high 19 (63.3 percent). Getting to the charity stripe at least 30 times in a game is a good sign for the Colonials. RMU owns a record of 21-9 (.700) under head coach Andrew Toole when visiting the chalk at least 30 times in a contest.

Army Reserve - Having a deeper rotation has been a key for Robert Morris so far this season, as the Colonials enter Saturday’s game against Oakland receiving an average of 24.1 points per contest from its bench. The RMU Ring of Honor Devised in the summer of 2013, the Robert Morris Ring of Honor was created to honor the very best of the program in its Division I history.

In order to be eligible for the Robert Morris Ring of Honor, a former student-athlete who played basketball with the Colonials must meet at least four of the following five criteria …

• RMU Athletic Hall of Fame member • RMU career statistical leader in any category (minimum 5 years) • Named conference player of the year at least once • Earned all-conference first team honors at least once • Member of conference regular season or tournament championship team that advanced to a national postseason tournament The first member to join the Robert Morris Ring of Honor is Chipper Harris, who played guard for the Colonials from 1980 to 1984 and had his banner raised in the rafters at the Charles L. Sewall Center Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014.

A 1995 inductee into the RMU Athletic Hall of Fame and a native of New Kensington, Pa., Harris served as the program’s all-time leading scorer from the conclusion of his career in 1984 until 1994 with 1,940 points and currently ranks second all-time behind former guard Myron Walker (1990-94). Harris averaged 16.4 points per game over his four-year career, shooting 51.4 percent (821-for-1,598) from the field and 78.9 percent (300-for-380) at the free-throw line.

RMU’s all-time leader in career steals with 450, he also compiled career totals of 405 rebounds, 436 assists and 21 blocks.

Harris helped guide the Colonials to their first two NCAA Tournament trips in 1982 and 1983 as Robert Morris claimed the first two ECAC Metro Conference Tournament championships. In 1984, he was named the ECAC Metro Conference Player of the Year, sharing the honor with Robert Jackson of St. Francis Brooklyn and Carey Scurry of LIU Brooklyn.

The Charles L. Sewall Center aka “The Chuck” The 2016-17 campaign marks the 32nd season Robert Morris will play its home games at the Charles L. Sewall Center. The facility was dedicated in 1985 and named for the man who served Robert Morris as president from 1967 until 1989. The Sewall Center has been the site where the Northeast Conference Tournament champion has been crowned in men’s basketball a total of six times in the last 30 years, with the Colonials winning four of those titles. RMU won the NEC Tournament on its home court in 1989, 1990, 1992 and 2009. The 2009 NEC Tournament men’s basketball championship game held at the Sewall Center featured the first sell-out crowd in school history, with 3,227 fans packed into the arena to watch Robert Morris post a 48-46 win over Mount St. Mary’s that was televised nationally on ESPN2. Former forward Dallas Green (2006-10) hit the game-winning shot with 2.2 seconds to play to help lift the Colonials to their sixth NEC Tournament title.

Robert Morris Historical Tidbits In The Beginning - Robert Morris was the first institution to jump directly from the junior college ranks to NCAA Division I. RMU played basketball at the junior college level for 13 seasons from 1963 to 1976, posting a record of 287-58 (.832) under head coach Gus Krop. Krop led the Colonials to a record of 30-1 (.968) in 1968-69 in its sixth season as a junior college program, with its only loss a 79-76 setback to Paducah (Ky.) in the national title game.

In his time leading Robert Morris, Krop coached nine All-Americans and also recruited Earl Cureton, a native of Detroit, Mich., who played one season with the Colonials when it was a junior college program (1975-76) as well as the first season of Division I basketball in 1976-77.

Half A Century - The 2016-17 campaign marks the 54th season of intercollegiate basketball at Robert Morris. The Colonials compiled an overall record of 287-58 (.832) in 13 years as a junior college program from 1963 to 1976 and since moving to Division I with the 1976-77 campaign have posted an overall record of 584-609 (.490). Combined, Robert Morris posted a record of 816-610 (.572) over its first 50 years as an intercollegiate program from 1963 to 2013. In honor of 50 years of intercollegiate basketball, Robert Morris enshrined the 1981-82 Colonials, the first squad to qualify for the NCAA Tournament, into the RMU Athletic Hall of Fame Feb. 15, 2014.

Charter Member - Robert Morris played independently as a Division I program for five seasons before becoming a charter member of the ECAC Metro Conference in 1981, which changed its name to the Northeast Conference in 1988. The Colonials have won eight NEC Tournament titles, the most in league history, and have also appeared in the NCAA Tournament eight times. Robert Morris has won back-to-back NEC Tournament titles on three occasions, including the first two championships in 1981 and 1982.

RMU also claimed back-to-back NEC Tournament titles in 1989 and 1990 and again in 2009 and 2010.

Dynamic Duo - Led by guards Chipper Harris (1980-84) and Forest “Bay” Grant (1980-84), Robert Morris claimed the first two ECAC Metro Conference Tournament championships in 1981 and 1982. In four seasons, Harris and Grant combined for career totals of 3,434 points, 869 rebounds, 991 assists and 782 steals. Harris served as RMU’s all-time leading scorer with 1,940 points from the conclusion of his career until 1994 and still owns the Robert Morris career record for steals (450), while Grant is the program’s all-time leader in assists (555). The pair helped the ECAC Metro Conference garner its first victory in the NCAA Tournament, as the Colonials upended Georgia Southern, 64-54, in a play-in game at the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio, in the 1983 NCAA Tournament. Harris was enshrined in the RMU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995, followed by Grant in 1996.

The First Superstar - Don Mackey (1963-65) was the only player in junior college history to score over 1,000 points in his two seasons with the program.

A native of Homestead, Pa., Mackey finished his two years with the Colonials by scoring 1,034 points, and his 43 points in a 125-111 win over Walsh Jan. 30, 1965, still stands as the most points scored in a game by a player in a Robert Morris uniform. He went on to finish his collegiate career at Gannon University and was inducted into the RMU Athletic Hall of Fame Oct. 9, 2010. Mackey is one of nine members of the RMU Athletic Hall of Fame from the junior college ranks, which also includes former All-Americans Perry Johnson (1969), Cleveland Edwards (1969) and Ron Hightower (1971 and 1972).

Walk On The Ocean - Former guard Myron Walker (1990-94) continued RMU’s lineage of stellar guards when he arrived on the scene in the fall of 1990 and was a key part of a 1991-92 squad that claimed the program’s fifth NEC Tournament championship and berth in the NCAA Tournament. In his second year with the program, Walker scored 614 points en route to being named the 1992 NEC Player of the Year, the first sophomore in league history to earn the honor. Walker went on to become the program’s all-time leading scorer with 1,965 points and also owns the single-season record for scoring average (20.1 ppg as a senior in 1993-94) and career marks for 20-point scoring games (47) and scoring average (18.7 ppg).

The Twirl - Arguably the best basketball player in school history, in his one season at the Division I level in a Robert Morris uniform Earl “The Twirl” Cureton (1975-77) averaged 17.2 points and 10.5 rebounds per game in 1976-77. Cureton still owns Robert Morris single-season records for rebounds (274) and rebounding average and is the only player in the program’s Division I history to average a double-double. He transferred to the University of Detroit to continue his Division I career and was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in the third round of the 1979 NBA Draft. He went on to play 12 seasons in the NBA, earning a pair of championship rings, one with the 76ers in 1983 and the other with the Houston Rockets in 1994.

Keep On Rockin ... As part of its 2016-17 schedule, RMU hosts a pair of games at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pa. The home of the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins, PPG Paints Arena will become the 11th arena that the Colonials have played in that has also featured a concert by Pearl Jam since the band’s formation in 1990. Also included is the Pan American Center (Las Cruces, N.M.), Time Warner Cable Arena (Charlotte, N.C.), the Verizon Center (Washington, D.C.), Rupp Arena (Lexington, Ky.), the Palace at Auburn Hills (Detroit, Mich.), the Prudential Center (Newark, N.J.), Savage Arena (Toledo, Ohio), the Wolstein Center (Cleveland, Ohio), the Bryce Jordan Center (State College, Pa.) and the A.J. Palumbo Center (Pittsburgh, Pa.).

Who Was Robert Morris?

Robert Morris, Jr. (January 20, 1734 – May 8, 1806) was a Liverpool-born American merchant and signer of the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation and the United States Constitution. He was elected to the Pennsylvania Assembly, became the Chairman of the Pennsylvania Committee of Safety and was chosen as a delegate to the Second Continental Congress, where he served as chairman of the “Secret Committee of Trade” and as a member of the Committee of Correspondence. From 1781 to 1784, he served as the powerful Superintendent of Finance, managing the economy of the fledgling United States. As the central civilian in the government, Morris was, next to General George Washington, “the most powerful man in America.” His successful administration led to the sobriquet, “Financier of the Revolution.” He was one of Pennsylvania’s original pair of U.S. senators, serving from 1789 to 1795. A look at his legacy: - A portrait of Morris appeared on U.S. $1000 notes from 1862 to 1863 - Morris and Roger Sherman were the only two people to sign all three significant founding documents of the United States, the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, and the U.S. Constitution.

- The dollar sign ("$") was in common use among private merchants during the middle of the 18th century. It referred to the two columns draped with scrolls on the Spanish milled dollar, which predated the U.S. Dollar. Morris was the first to use that symbol in official documents.
