Top Story - Led by fourth-year head coach Andrew Toole, the Robert Morris University men’s basketball team posted an overall record of 22-14 (.611) in 2013-14, including a mark of 14-2 (.875) in the Northeast Conference. The Colonials secured their second straight NEC regular-season championship and 11th overall in 2014 but fell in the championship game of the 2014 NEC Tournament, 88-71, to Mount St. Mary’s (3/11/14). Despite the loss, RMU appeared in the postseason for the sixth time in the last seven years with an automatic bid to the National Invitation Tournament (NIT). Making its third appearance in the NIT in program history, Robert Morris advanced to the second round for the second straight year thanks to an 89-78 victory @ St. John’s (3/18/14). In L, 76-84 the history of the NIT, four No. 1 seeds have lost to a No. 8 seed, with the Colonials owning two L, 77-80 W, 67-63 of those victories. In the second round of the NIT, Robert Morris fell @ Belmont (3/21/14), 8271. Senior guard Karvel Anderson was tabbed the 2014 NEC Player of the Year after averaging W, 72-61 L, 94-100 19.7 points per game and establishing RMU single-season records for points (710), field goals L, 66-92 (248) and three-point field goals (119). Anderson scored a career-high 38 points to lead the Colonials to their upset win of the Red Storm in the first round of the NIT and became just the third L, 56-64 player in school history to win an NEC scoring title. Anderson was also selected to the 2014 AllW, 79-70 NEC First Team, and joining him with postseason accolades was junior forward Lucky Jones, who W, 71-67 earned a spot on the 2014 All-NEC Second Team. Jones averaged 13.9 points and a team-high W, 73-68 6.8 rebounds per game in 2013-14 and during the season eclipsed career totals of both 1,000 W, 77-69 points and 500 rebounds. The 2013-14 campaign also marked the final season for senior guard W, 91-65 Anthony Myers-Pate, who averaged 6.9 points and 3.7 assists per contest. Myers-Pate concluded W, 74-70 his career at RMU as the program’s all-time leader in games played (137) while ranking sixth W, 79-76 all-time in career assists (449) to go along with 805 points. Head Coach Andrew Toole Fourth Season - Penn ’03 When it came time for Robert Morris University Director of Athletics Craig Coleman, M.D., to name a new head coach for the men’s basketball program, he didn’t have to look far. Andrew Toole was introduced as the eighth head coach in the 38-year Division I history at a press conference at the Charles L. Sewall Center May 11, 2010, and the 2013-14 campaign marked his fourth season as head coach of the Colonials. Toole signed a three-year contract extension at Robert Morris May 3, 2013, meaning he will lead the Colonials through the 2017-18 campaign. In four seasons under Toole’s tutelage, the Colonials have posted an overall record of 90-50 (.643), including a mark of 53-17 (.757) against Northeast Conference opponents. On the 2013-14 campaign, Tooled led Robert Morris to an overall record of 22-14 (.611) and its second consecutive NEC regular-season championship and 11th overall with a 14-2 (.875) league mark. RMU appeared in the postseason for the sixth time in the last seven years, earning a spot in the 2014 National Invitation Tournament (NIT). The Colonials advanced to the second round of the NIT for the second straight year thanks to an 89-78 victory @ St. John’s, the program’s first win in school history against a Big East foe. In 2012-13, Toole led RMU to an overall record of 24-11 (.686), including a ledger of 14-4 (.778) against league foes to claim its 10th NEC regular-season title. RMU earned a spot in the 2013 National Invitation Tournament (NIT), advancing to the second round thanks to a 59-57 victory over Kentucky in front of 3,444 fans at the Charles L. Sewall Center, the largest crowd in school history. In his first season at the helm in 2010-11, Toole guided RMU to an overall record of 18-14 (.563), including a mark of 12-6 (.667) in the NEC. The Colonials advanced to the championship game of the NEC Tournament, falling three minutes shy of earning its third straight title before falling in overtime at LIU Brooklyn, 85-82. The following season in 2011-12, Robert Morris posted an overall record of 26-11 (.703), including a mark of 13-5 (.722) in the NEC. RMU tied a school record for victories, advanced to its fourth straight NEC Tournament championship game and earned its inaugural berth in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT). In the 2012 CIT, the Colonials advanced to the quarterfinals thanks to road wins at Indiana State and Toledo, marking the program’s first victories in a national postseason tournament since 1983. Overall, Toole has been at Robert Morris seven seasons. He spent the 2007-08 campaign as an assistant under former head coach Mike Rice (2007-10) before being elevated to Associate Head Coach for the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons. He is at the helm of an RMU program that has experienced unprecedented success over the last seven years. Since the beginning of the 2007-08 season, Robert Morris owns an overall record of 163-81 (.668), with the 163 victories both a school and NEC record for a seven-year span. RMU’s 163 wins from 2007 to 2014 is tied with Akron for seventh among mid-major programs for the seven-year span, and the Colonials also own NEC records for victories over the span of three, four, five and six years. While RMU’s overall success is apparent, the program’s accomplishments in the NEC are also clear. Over the last seven years, the Colonials have posted a mark of 99-25 (.798) against league opposition, having finished no lower than third over that span. Robert Morris won outright NEC regular-season titles in 2008, 2009, 2013 and 2014 and shared the title in 2010 with Quinnipiac. RMU followed up its success in the regular season by becoming the first team in NEC history in 16 years to win back-to-back NEC Tournament championships by earning a 52-50 win over Quinnipiac in the 2010 NEC Tournament championship game in Hamden, Conn. In 2008, the Colonials made their first appearance in the NIT, dropping an 87-81 decision to No. 1 overall seed Syracuse at the Carrier Dome. In both 2009 and 2010, RMU earned automatic berths to the NCAA Tournament thanks to winning its sixth and seventh NEC Tournament championships, respectively. In the 2009 NCAA Tournament, the Colonials fell to eventual national runner-up Michigan State, 77-62, in the first round at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minn. In the 2010 NCAA Tournament, Robert Morris nearly upset No. 2 seed Villanova in the first round at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, R.I., before falling, 73-70, in overtime. Prior to coming to Robert Morris in 2007, Toole spent the 2006-07 season as an assistant at Lafayette College in Easton, Pa. Toole was a four-year starter at the Division I level, playing for Elon University (1998-2000) before transferring to the University of Pennsylvania (2000-03). Over his four-year career at Elon and Penn, Toole averaged 12.3 points per contest, finishing with 1,341 points in 109 games. Toole married the former Brooke Kelly June 3, 2011, and the couple resides in the Pittsburgh, Pa., suburb of Mt. Lebanon with their son, Ryan.

Exclusivity - Junior forward Lucky Jones joined the Robert Morris 1,000-point club in a 7473 setback to Central Connecticut State (2/1/14), as his layup at the 12:07 mark of the first half helped him become the 22nd player in program history to join the fraternity. Jones finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds against the Blue Devils and concluded the year with 1,190 career points. Jones also joined the RMU 500-rebound club in 2013-14 when he finished with seven boards in RMU’s final non-conference tilt of the year @ Alabama (1/4/14) and finished the season with 662 career caroms. One of just 13 players in school history to eclipse career totals of 1,000 points and 500 rebounds, Jones enters his final season of eligibility in 2014-15 ranked 16th in career points and sixth in career rebounds. Surf Board - Junior forward Lucky Jones, a 2014 All-Northeast Conference Second Team selection, led Robert Morris in rebounding in 2013-14 by averaging 6.8 rebounds per game, which ranked fifth in the NEC. Jones finished the 2013-14 campaign by grabbing 246 rebounds, which ranks fourth in the RMU single-season record book and are the most caroms collected by a member of the Colonials since former forward A.J. Jackson (200308) compiled 259 boards during the 2005-06 season. Jones enters his final season of eligibility in 2014-15 with 662 career rebounds, which ranks sixth all-time at Robert Morris. He is just 20 caroms shy of moving into the top five and is 90 shy of breaking the all-time record of 751 that is currently held by a pair of former Colonials. Former forward Anthony Dickens grabbed 751 rebounds from 1985 to 1990, while former guard Tony Lee tied that mark with 751 boards from 2004 to 2008. Dynamic Duo - While senior guard Karvel Anderson finished as RMU’s leading scorer with a 19.7 points per game average in 2013-14 thanks in large part to his ability to convert from beyond the arc, junior forward Lucky Jones has developed into a solid outside shooter, as well. Jones concluded the 2013-14 season ranked eighth in the NEC three-point field goals made per game (1.94) as well as 14th in the circuit in three-point field goal percentage at 35.9 percent (70-for-195). The duo of Anderson and Jones combined for 189 threepointers in 2013-14, an average of 5.25 per game, which established a new single-season school record for three-pointers by a Robert Morris tandem. The old record of 156 was established in 2012-13 by Anderson and former guard Coron Williams (2009-13). Anderson hit 82 triples last season, while Williams connected for 74. International Waters - RMU has consistently been at the top of the Northeast Conference much of the previous decade in regard to its three-point shooting, and the 2013-14 season provided much of the same. In 36 games in 2013-14, RMU converted 271 of its 703 attempts (38.5%) from beyond the arc. Robert Morris led the NEC in three-point field goal percentage in 2013-14 while ranking second in the NEC in three-point field goals made per game (7.53). In four seasons under head coach Andrew Toole, the Colonials own a record of 30-5 (.857) when converting at least 10 three-pointers in a game, including 7-2 (.778) in 2013-14. Defense Wins Championships - At the heart of the resurgence of the Robert Morris basketball program over the last seven seasons is defense. Thanks to a 60-57 win over Saint Francis U. (3/8/14) in the semifinals of the 2014 Northeast Conference Tournament, RMU improved to 123-24 (.837) since the beginning of the 2007-08 campaign when holding its opponent to less than 70 points. In four seasons under head coach Andrew Toole, the Colonials are 7217 (.809) when turning the trick. Moving On Up - RMU’s 66-60 victory @ Saint Francis U. (2/13/14) at DeGol Arena in Loretto, Pa., helped head coach Andrew Toole move into second place all-time in program history for career victories. In four seasons at Robert Morris, Toole has compiled a career record of 90-50 (.643) and in 2013-14 moved from fourth to second all-time in program history for career victories by a head coach. He surpassed his predecessor, former RMU head coach Mike Rice, who posted a 73-31 (.702) mark in three seasons guiding the Colonials from 2007 to 2010, as well as former head coach Mark Schmidt (2001-07), who in six seasons posted a record of 82-90 (.477). RMU’s all-time leader in victories is former head coach Jarrett Durham, who went 157-183 (.462) in 12 seasons from 1984 to 1996. Did You Know? Junior forward Lucky Jones (246) and sophomore forward Aaron Tate (158) were RMU’s top two rebounders in 2013-14, combining to finish with 404 caroms on the year. Jones and Tate are just the sixth duo in school history to combine for at least 400 rebounds in a season and the first since former Colonials Jeremy Chappell and Rob Robinson combined for exactly 400 during the 2008-09 campaign.

The defensive pressure that Robert Morris has employed over the last seven seasons has allowed the program to post each of its top four totals for largest margin of victory against a Northeast Conference opponent in school history. The Colonials earned a 91-38 victory over Bryant (2/3/11) at the Charles L. Sewall Center to not only establish a new school record in an NEC game but also tie the league mark. The record was originally set when Wagner defeated Sacred Heart, 116-63, on February 22, 2000. In fact, only four games in league annals have been decided by 50 or more points, and RMU owns two of them. Anderson is just the third player from RMU to lead the league in scoring in program history. RMU’s all-time leading scorer, former guard Myron Walker (1990-94), led the NEC in scoring as a sophomore during the 1991-92 campaign, scoring at a 19.8 points per game clip. RMU’s Last Game (AP) - Belmont has turned its attention from the NCAA Tournament to Madison Square Garden. J.J. Mann scored 25 points and the Bruins beat Robert Morris, 82-71, March 21, to reach the third round of the NIT. Mann, the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year, made 7-of-8 free throws in the final 1:21 to finish off the short-handed Colonials. Belmont’s last 11 points came at the foul line, where the Bruins shot 24-of-25 for the game. Belmont, the Ohio Valley regular-season champion, will play at Clemson with a trip to the NIT Final Four on the line. “We’re in the thick of it,” Mann said. “Playing in Madison Square Garden would be the ultimate goal and there’s nothing to be ashamed of being in the NIT at all.” Drew Windler added 18 points for the fifth-seeded Bruins (26-9), and Craig Bradshaw scored 17. Senior guard Karvel Anderson led No. 8 seed Robert Morris with 23 points. Junior forward Lucky Jones had 15 and senior guard Anthony Myers-Pate 14. Robert Morris (22-14) had only seven players available but led by as many as six points in the first half. Belmont trailed, 25-19, before reeling off 14 consecutive points in a span of 4:37. Mann scored the first eight in that spurt with a pair of three-pointers and a jumper. He credited the Belmont defense with sparking the run, as the Bruins forced 11 first-half turnovers. “Really, it was just our defense that created offense, and we knocked down some shots,” he said. The Bruins were upset by Eastern Kentucky in the Ohio Valley championship game, keeping them out of the NCAA Tournament. Belmont had made three straight NCAA appearances and earned six bids in the past nine years. “We’re totally over (that) now,” Mann said. Belmont coach Rick Byrd said his team and its fans have gotten excited about two NIT victories, including a first-round win over Green Bay. “It’s postseason basketball. It may not be the NCAA, but certainly is the next thing to it,” Byrd said. “I told our team ... that if we get in this tournament and get some wins, it’s going to be way better than you thought going in.” The Colonials, who beat top-seeded St. John’s in the opening round, were down 44-35 at halftime. They pulled within six points twice but trailed by double digits for much of the second half, partially due to fatigue. “We did wear down some toward the end, but credit our guys. We continued to fight, regardless of the situation,” Robert Morris coach Andrew Toole said. Robert Morris jumped out to an early 11-5 lead in the first two minutes of action against Belmont in much the same fashion as it grabbed the early advantage at St. John’s in the first round of the NIT, as Anderson connected twice from beyond the arc, while Lucky Jones buried a triple of his own. Jones would give the Colonials a 13-9 edge at the 15:32 mark of the first half with a driving layup, but the Bruins responded with a 10-0 surge to grab their first lead of the contest, 19-13, with 13:08 left before halftime. Blake Jenkins was the main offensive force for Belmont, scoring six points. Junior guard Charles Oliver stemmed the tide for Robert Morris by hitting a pair of free throws, which began a 12-0 run that helped the Colonials open up a 25-19 advantage with 9:15 left before halftime. Jones and Anderson each connected from deep, while freshman guard Kavon Stewart and sophomore forward Stephan Hawkins each hit jumpers. RMU then went cold offensively, not converting a field goal for almost five minutes, and the Bruins grabbed their first double-digit lead of the contest, 36-25, thanks to a 17-0 spurt that began with eight straight points from Mann. Anderson helped the Colonials whittle their deficit to 38-33 at the 2:41 mark of the first half with a three-point play, but a three-pointer that was banked in from Craig Bradshaw allowed Belmont to take a 44-35 edge at halftime. One of the most dangerous shooters in school history, Anderson had the ability to knock down the three-point shot while also diversifying his offensive output, slashing to the basket and showing a solid mid-range game. Despite playing just two seasons in a Robert Morris uniform, Anderson will go down as one of the purest scorers in program history. A look at some of his accomplishments in both 2013-14 and over his two-year career at RMU ... Rewriting The Record Book - Karvel Anderson established a number of RMU single-season records in 2013-14, some of which may stand for a long time. En route to leading the Colonials to the 2014 Northeast Conference regular-season championship and their sixth postseason appearance in the last seven years, Anderson established the following single-season marks ... points (710), field goals (248), field goal attempts (486), three-point field goals (119), three-point field goal attempts (257), three-point field goals made per game (3.31), double-figure scoring games (33), 20-point scoring games (19) and 30-point scoring games (4). The 30-30 Club - Karvel Anderson became just the second player in school history to eclipse the 30-point plateau in back-to-back games when he turned the trick in RMU’s swing through New England to open Northeast Conference play. Anderson finished with 36 points in a 79-70 win @ Sacred Heart (1/9/14), followed by 32 points in a 71-67 victory @ Bryant (1/11/14). Anderson joins former guard Gene Nabors (1995-2000), who accomplished the feat in the 2000 NEC Tournament in Trenton, N.J., at Sovereign Bank Arena. In the quarterfinals of the 2000 NEC Tournament, Nabors scored 38 points in a 72-52 win over Saint Francis U. (3/3/00). The next day, Nabors dropped 35 points to lead Robert Morris to an 80-61 win over Mount St. Mary’s (3/4/00) in the semifinals of the NEC Tournament. Rise Up - Karvel Anderson settled his name in the top 10 rankings in a number of different single-season categories at Robert Morris in 2013-14, and in a 60-57 win over Saint Francis U. (3/8/14) in the semifinals of the 2014 NEC Tournament he established a new single-season record for points scored. Anderson, who scored a career-high 38 points @ St. John’s (3/18/14) in the first round of the 2014 National Invitation Tournament (NIT), finished the 2013-14 campaign with 710 points. That total eclipsed the old single-season mark of 614 points that former guard Myron Walker (1990-04) scored as a sophomore in 1991-92. Grand Concourse - Karvel Anderson became the 23rd member of the Robert Morris 1,000-point club in RMU’s 2013-14 regular-season finale @ Wagner (3/1/14), as his three-pointer at the 18:07 mark of the first half helped him join the fraternity. In 69 career games with the Colonials, Anderson scored 1,123 points, an average of 16.3 points per contest. Anderson is just the third player in school history to eclipse 1,000 points while playing just two seasons at Robert Morris. The only other Division I player to turn the trick at RMU was former guard Gene Nabors (1995-2000), who scored 1,029 points with the Colonials from 1998 to 2000 after transferring from Louisiana State University (LSU). The first player to accomplish the feat was junior college guard Don Mackey, who scored 1,034 points from 1963 to 1965 before transferring to Gannon.
Mission Accomplished - Many have tried over the years, and many have failed. Yet Karvel Anderson was the one that came through and established a new RMU single-season school record in a category that had stood for almost a quarter of a century. Thanks to a trio of three-pointers in a 71-70 overtime victory over St. Francis Brooklyn (2/22/14) that helped the Colonials clinch the 2014 Northeast Conference regular-season championship, Anderson set a new single-season record for triples and on the year drained 119. That total surpassed the old single-season school record of 93 that was established by former guard Scott Shepherd (1988-91) during the 1988-89 campaign. Three’s Company - Thanks to a record-breaking season in shooting from beyond the three-point line, Karvel Anderson became the just the eighth player in school history to eclipse 200 career three-pointers. In 69 career contests, Anderson finished with 201 three-pointers, which ranks eighth all-time at Robert Morris. In the RMU career record book, Anderson established a new mark for three-point field goals made per game, averaging 2.91 in his two seasons with the Colonials. In addition, Anderson also established a Robert Morris career record for three-point field goal percentage, converting 45.3 percent (119-for-444) of his attempts from international waters. He broke the old mark of 44 percent (66-for-150) that former guard Billy Erwin shot from 1993 to 1997. Did You Know? Karvel Anderson was the only player in NCAA Division I in 2013-14 to rank in the top 10 in the country in both three-point field goals made per game (3.31) and three-point field goal percentage (.463). Anderson ranked ninth in the country in three-point field goals made per game and seventh in three-point field goal percentage. Free Is For Me - Late in the 2013-14 season, Karvel Anderson had a stretch where he converted 31 consecutive attempts at the free-throw line, the longest streak on record in program history. Anderson’s streak began in a 73-64 victory over LIU Brooklyn (2/20/14) when he converted his final five shots from the charity stripe and ended when he missed his third attempt at the stripe in an 89-78 victory @ St. John’s (3/18/14) in the first round of the 2014 NIT. Included during that stretch was a 12-for-12 performance against Saint Francis U. (3/8/14) in the NEC Tournament semifinals. Did You Know? Karvel Anderson scored in double figures in 55 of his 69 career games, including a single-season school record 33 times as a senior in 2013-14. Anderson’s 55 career double-figure scoring games is tied for 16th in program history with former forward Russell Johnson (2008-13), and the Colonials finished with a record of 34-21 (.618) when Anderson scored at least 10 points in a game.

A Special Night - Karvel Anderson put forth arguably the most impressive shooting display in school history during his junior campaign in 2012-13 in an 84-76 win over Ohio (12/1/12) at the Charles L. Sewall Center, hitting all 10 of his shots from the floor in the victory, including 8-for-8 from beyond the arc. Anderson is the first student-athlete in school history to post a perfect shooting night from the field with as many as 10 field goals. Anderson also became just the second student-athlete in school history to convert eight field goals from beyond the arc without a miss. A Special Night Part Deux - Karvel Anderson added to his legacy as one of the best three-point shooters in school history in an 88-81 win over UT Arlington (11/21/13) as part of the Keightley Classic, tying a Charles L. Sewall Center record for threepointers by a student-athlete from RMU with eight. Anderson finished 8-for-10 from beyond the arc against the Mavericks en route to a team-high 24 points. It marked the second time Anderson connected for eight three-pointers in a game at “The Chuck,” as he also accomplished the feat in an 84-76 win over Ohio (12/1/12). Anderson, one of six Colonials in school history to bury eight three-point field goals in a game at the Sewall Center, was the first to turn the trick twice.

Reese’s Pieces - Karvel Anderson concluded his senior season at Robert Morris in 2013-14 by being selected to participate in the 2014 Reese’s Division I College All-Star Game (4/4/14) as part of festivities for the 2014 NCAA Final Four in Arlington, Texas. Anderson earned the start at guard for the East squad at AT&T Stadium and finished with 12 points, six rebounds, an assist and a steal in 21 minutes of action in an 87-75 victory over the West All-Stars. Anderson shot 4-for-11 from the field, including 4-of-9 from beyond the arc. He was one of 20 seniors to participate in the game as Jerelle Benimon of Towson was named the Reese’s Perfect Player by scoring all of his 15 points in the second half. In The NEC Record Book - Karvel Anderson finished with 119 three-pointers on the 2013-14 campaign, a total that ranks second in single-season history of the Northeast Conference. Tristan Blackwood of Central Connecticut State established the single-season mark of 122 in 2006-07. Anderson is also one of seven players in league history to score at least 700 points in a season, ranking eighth all-time with 710 points. The NEC single-season record of 903 was established by Charles Jones of LIU Brooklyn during the 1996-97 campaign.

Originally serving as the understudy and backup to former guard Velton Jones (2008-13), Myers-Pate showed an ability to consistently find the open man while keeping defenses honest by knocking down the open shot. As a freshman, Myers-Pate established a class record for assists with 116 and continued to create offense for Robert Morris throughout his career while also providing the Colonials with leadership at an important position. A look at some of his accomplishments in both 201314 and over his four-year career at RMU ... Put Me In Coach - Anthony Myers-Pate became the sixth different member of the Colonials in the last seven years to establish a new Robert Morris school record for career games played. Thanks to RMU’s second straight appearance in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT), Myers-Pate concluded his carer having played in 137 career games. That total snapped the old mark of his predecessor at the point guard position, former guard Velton Jones, who appeared in 135 from 2009 to 2013. A Successful Career - In helping lead the Colonials to an overall record of 22-14 (.611) in his final season at Robert Morris in 2013-14, Anthony MyersPate put himself in elite company in the 38-year history of Division I basketball at RMU. Myers-Pate became the seventh player in school history accumulate at least 90 wins in his four-year career, joining former Colonials Dallas Green, Jimmy Langhurst and Mezie Nwigwe. The trio of Green, Langhurst and Nwigwe finished 90-42 (.682) in four years from 2006 to 2010, while Myers-Pate finished 90-50 (.643) over the last four seasons. The all-time record for victories by a class belongs to former Colonials Gary Wallace, Velton Jones and Russell Johnson. Wallace won 91 games from 2007 to 2011, while Jones and Johnson matched that total from 2008 to 2013. Double Nickel On A Dime - Anthony Myers-Pate recorded a game-high eight assists in an 89-78 win @ St. John’s (3/18/14) in the first round of the 2014 National Invitation Tournament (NIT), helping him move into sixth place all-time at Robert Morris for career dimes. Myers-Pate finished his career with the Colonials with 449 career dimes and in his final season in 2013-14 compiled 134 assists against 60 turnovers. Breakout - In a 79-76 victory over Bryant (1/30/14) at the Charles L. Sewall Center, Anthony Myers-Pate registered the most explosive offensive game of his career. The performance was part of a fourgame homestand that saw Myers-Pate average 12.3 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists per contest while shooting 59.4 percent (19-for-32) from the field, including 60 percent (6-for-10) from beyond the arc, and 83.3 percent (5-for-6) at the free-throw line. Over the course of his career, Myers-Pate reached double figures in scoring a total of 29 times, including 14 times in 2013-14. Robert Morris finished with a record of 22-7 (.759) when MyersPate scored at least 10 points in a game.
Protect The Rock - No member of the Colonials did a better job of protecting the basketball throughout his career than Anthony Myers-Pate. Over the final seven games of the 2013-14 non-conference season, Myers-Pate dished out 40 assists against just nine turnovers, an assist-to-turnover ratio of 4.44. It marked the best stretch of his career. Myers-Pate finished the 2013-14 campaign ranked fourth in the Northeast Conference in assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.23, which ranks second in the RMU single-season record. It’s All Relative - Anthony Myers-Pate signed a National Letter of Intent in June of 2010 with Robert Morris in his bloodlines. Myers-Pate is the cousin of former point guard Derek Coleman, who earned four letters while playing with the Colonials from 2003 to 2007. In his four seasons with RMU, Coleman scored 1,042 points and dished out 440 assists. Combined, Coleman and Myers-Pate combined for 1,847 career points and 889 career assists. Myers-Pate finished his career ranked sixth all-time at Robert Morris in assists, one spot ahead of Coleman, who now ranks seventh all-time. The duo also combined for an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.82.

Steal City - Robert Morris finished the 2013-14 campaign tops in the Northeast Conference in steals, averaging 7.08 per game. It marks the fifth time in the last seven years that the Colonials have paced the league in steals. Individually, RMU was led by senior guard Karvel Anderson, who ranked fifth in the circuit with an average of 1.33 thefts per contest. Robert Morris also led the NEC in steals per game against league foes for the sixth time in the last seven seasons by averaging 8.06 per contest, ahead of Mount St. Mary’s (7.44). Tag Team - Senior guard Karvel Anderson and junior forward Lucky Jones, just the second tandem in school history to combine for at least 1,000 points in a season, established a new single-season school record for points by an RMU duo in a 60-53 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson (3/5/14) in the quarterfinals of the 2014 NEC Tournament. Anderson concluded the 2013-14 campaign with a single-season school record 710 points, while Jones finished with 499 for RMU, a total that ranks 12th all-time in the single-season record book. Consistency - If there was one thing that 2014 Northeast Conference Player of the Year Karvel Anderson was over the course of the 2013-14 campaign, it was consistent. Thanks to a team-high 23 points in his final game in a Robert Morris uniform in an 82-71 setback @ Belmont (3/21/14) in the second round of the 2014 National Invitation Tournament (NIT), Anderson recorded his 19th game of the year eclipsing the 20-point plateau, extending his own RMU single-season school record. The old mark of 15 was held by former Colonials Myron Walker (1990-94), Gene Nabors (1995-2000) and Maurice Carter (2001-05). Walker turned the trick twice, first as a sophomore in 1991-92 in leading RMU to the NEC Tournament championship and again as a senior in 1993-94. Nabors reached the 20-point plateau in 15 games as a senior in 1999-2000, while Carter finished with at least 20 points in 15 contests during his sophomore season in 2002-03. Comeback Kids - Robert Morris proved throughout the 2013-14 campaign that no lead was safe for an opponent. RMU climbed out of a double-digit deficit in four of its last nine games. In a 60-57 victory over Saint Francis U. (3/8/14) in the semifinals of the 2014 NEC Tournament, the Colonials erased a 10-point deficit in the first half, 16-6, to earn the win. RMU also erased a 15-point deficit in the second half of a 69-64 win @ Fairleigh Dickinson (2/27/14) and fell behind by 16 points against LIU Brooklyn (2/20/14) before charging back to grab a 73-64 win. In a 71-70 overtime victory over St. Francis Brooklyn (2/22/14), Robert Morris eclipsed a 12-point deficit in the second half to post a win. The win over the Red Flash marked the 15th time RMU has climbed out of a double-digit deficit to earn a victory in four seasons under head coach Andrew Toole. Protect This House - Thanks to a 72-61 victory over Campbell (12/18/13), Robert Morris notched victory No. 250 at the Charles L. Sewall Center. Protecting its home court at “The Chuck” has become a key part to RMU’s success over the last decade. During its stretch of nine consecutive winning seasons, the Colonials have posted a record of 106-26 (.803) at home, including a mark of 64-16 (.800) against Northeast Conference opponents. In four seasons under head coach Andrew Toole, Robert Morris owns a record of 47-11 (.810) at the Sewall Center, including a mark of 28-7 (.800) against the NEC. The Sewall Center has also proven to be a tough place to play for non-conference opponents, as RMU is 13-2 (.867) against non-conference opponents in the regular season at home. There’s An App For That - No member of Robert Morris benefitted more from the eightman rotation than junior guard David Appolon, who played arguably his best basketball in an RMU uniform down the stretch of the 2013-14 campaign. Despite being injured in the first half of an 89-78 win @ St. John’s (3/18/14) in the first round of the 2014 National Invitation Tournament (NIT), Appolon averaged 6.5 points and 5.2 rebounds over his final 16 games of the season while shooting 47.5 percent (38-for-80) from the field. During that stretch the Colonials posted a record of 13-3 (.813). Appolon’s best game came in a 73-64 win over LIU Brooklyn (2/20/14), when he established career highs in both points (13) and rebounds (9). Appolon’s production down the stretch was a stark contrast from RMU’s first 19 games, when he averaged just 10.3 minutes per game and averaged 2.2 points and 1.6 rebounds per contest.

Scoring In Bunches - Senior guard Karvel Anderson had his own flair for the dramatic in his final season at Robert Morris in 2013-14, as on four separate occasions he scored at least 20 points in a half. Anderson’s biggest outburst came in a 73-64 victory over LIU Brooklyn (2/20/14) at the Charles L. Sewall Center, when he scored all of his gamehigh 26 points in the second half, including 20 in the final 6:43 of the contest to help lift the Colonials out of a 16-point deficit. Anderson’s outburst against the Blackbirds marks the most points scored in a half in school history, eclipsing the 25 points former guard Gene Nabors (1995-2000) scored in the second half of an 80-61 win over Mount St. Mary’s (3/4/00) in the semifinals of the 2000 Northeast Conference Tournament in Trenton, N.J., at Sovereign Bank Arena. Hawkeye - Another member of RMU to improve when the Colonials went to their eightman rotation in January was sophomore forward Stephan Hawkins. In his final 16 games of the 2013-14 campaign, Hawkins averaged 6.9 points and 3.8 rebounds per game while shooting 53.8 percent (49-for-91) from the field and compiling 16 blocks. Hawkins tied a career high with 12 points and also added four rebounds in a 95-61 victory over Sacred Heart (1/23/14) during that stretch and led the Colonials in 2013-14 with 23 blocks. Board Games - Part of following the formula in regard to being successful for Robert Morris over the last seven seasons has been the program’s ability to crash the boards. Since the beginning of 2007-08, Robert Morris owns a record of 117-19 (.860) when the Colonials are even or better in rebounding in a game, including a 112-17 (.868) mark when outrebounding their opponent. In Andrew Toole’s four seasons as head coach, Robert Morris has posted a record of 60-13 (.822) when outrebounding its opponent, including a mark of 16-2 (.889) in 2013-14. Here Or There - Robert Morris put forth a statistical oddity in its sweep through Brooklyn, N.Y., in victories @ LIU Brooklyn (2/6/14) and @ St. Francis Brooklyn (2/8/14) involving its two leading scorers. Junior forward Lucky Jones scored each of his 27 points in the first half of RMU’s two victories, while all of senior guard Karvel Anderson’s 29 points came in the second half. Jones shot 76.9 percent (10-for-13) from the field in the first half against the Blackbirds and Terriers, including 83.3 percent (5-for-6) from deep, while Anderson converted 62.5 percent (10-for-16) of his shots from the floor in the second half, including 70 percent (7-for-10) from downtown. Finding His Footing - Kavon Stewart had an up-and-down rookie season, but the freshman guard settled in as RMU’s reserve point guard, earning valuable experience as he looks to take over a starting spot in 2014-15. Over the final 17 games of the 2013-14 season, Stewart averaged 5.3 points and 2.7 assists per game while also recording an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.35. Overall in 2013-14, Stewart ranked 11th in the Northeast Conference in assists per game (2.80) and 13th in steals per contest (1.10). Stewart concluded the season ranked fourth on the Colonials in steals with 33 in 30 games and produced his best game of the season @ Oakland (12/22/13), establishing career highs in both points (11) and assists (9).

Robert Morris celebrated its 25th season of playing its home games at the Charles L. Sewall Center in 2009-10. The facility was dedicated in 1985 and named for the man who served Robert Morris as president from 1967 until 1989. The Sewall Center has been the site where the Northeast Conference Tournament champion has been crowned in men’s basketball a total of six times in the last 29 years, with the Colonials winning four of those titles. RMU won the NEC Tournament on its home court in 1989, 1990, 1992 and 2009, while in 1986 No. 2 seed Marist won the championship with a 57-56 win over No. 1 seed Fairleigh Dickinson. The 2009 NEC Tournament men’s basketball championship game held at the Sewall Center featured the first sell-out crowd in school history, with 3,227 fans packed into the arena to watch Robert Morris post a 48-46 win over Mount St. Mary’s that was televised nationally on ESPN2. Former forward Dallas Green (2006-10) hit the game-winning shot with 2.2 seconds to play to help lift the Colonials to their sixth NEC Tournament title. In addition, the Robert Morris women’s basketball team claimed back-to-back NEC Tournament championships at the Sewall Center in 2007 and 2008. The Need for Three Over the course of the last decade, converting the three-point shot and Robert Morris has become synonymous. Despite having its string of consecutive seasons with at least 200 three-pointers snapped at six by finishing with 197 in 2009-10, the Colonials are at the top of the Northeast Conference over the last 10 years in three-point field goals made per game. Since the start of the 2004-05 campaign, the Colonials have averaged 7.25 three-pointers per contest, ahead of LIU Brooklyn (7.19). Senior guard Karvel Anderson paced the Colonials in 2013-14 with 119 three-pointers, an average of 3.31 per game that led the NEC. Robert Morris Historical Tidbits In The Beginning - Robert Morris was the first institution to jump directly from the junior college ranks to NCAA Division I. RMU played basketball at the junior college level for 13 seasons from 1963 to 1976, posting a record of 287-58 (.832) under head coach Gus Krop. Krop led the Colonials to a record of 30-1 (.968) in 1968-69 in its sixth season as a junior college program, with its only loss a 79-76 setback to Paducah (Ky.) in the national title game. In his time leading Robert Morris, Krop coached nine All-Americans and also recruited Earl Cureton, a native of Detroit, Mich., who played one season with the Colonials when it was a junior college program (1975-76) as well as the first season of Division I basketball in 1976-77. Half A Century - The 2013-14 campaign marked the 51st season of intercollegiate basketball at Robert Morris. The Colonials compiled an overall record of 287-58 (.832) in 13 years as a junior college program from 1963 to 1976 and since moving to Division I with the 1976-77 campaign has posted an overall record of 551-565 (.494). Combined, Robert Morris posted a record of 816-610 (.572) over its first 50 years as an intercollegiate program from 1963 to 2013. In honor of 50 years of intercollegiate basketball, Robert Morris enshrined the 1981-82 Colonials, the first squad to qualify for the NCAA Tournament, into the RMU Athletic Hall of Fame Feb. 15, 2014. The First Superstar - Don Mackey (1963-65) was the only player in junior college history to score over 1,000 points in his two seasons with the program. A native of Homestead, Pa., Mackey finished his two years with the Colonials by scoring 1,034 points, and his 43 points in a 125-111 win over Walsh Jan. 30, 1965, still stands as the most points scored in a game by a player in a Robert Morris uniform. He went on to finish his collegiate career at Gannon University and was inducted into the RMU Athletic Hall of Fame Oct. 9, 2010. Mackey is one of nine members of the RMU Athletic Hall of Fame from the junior college ranks, which also includes former All-Americans Perry Johnson (1969), Cleveland Edwards (1969) and Ron Hightower (1971 and 1972). The Twirl - Arguably the best basketball player in school history, in his one season at the Division I level in a Robert Morris uniform Earl “The Twirl” Cureton (1975-77) averaged 17.2 points and 10.5 rebounds per game in 1976-77. Cureton still owns Robert Morris single-season records for rebounds (274) and rebounding average and is the only player in the program’s Division I history to average a double-double. He transferred to the University of Detroit to continue his Division I career and was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in the third round of the 1979 NBA Draft. He went on to play 12 seasons in the NBA, earning a pair of championship rings, one with the 76ers in 1983 and the other with the Houston Rockets in 1994.
Charter Member - Robert Morris played independently as a Division I program for five seasons before becoming a charter member of the ECAC Metro Conference in 1981, which changed its name to the Northeast Conference in 1988. The Colonials have won seven NEC Tournament titles, the most in league history, and have also appeared in the NCAA Tournament seven times. Robert Morris has won back-to-back NEC Tournament titles on three occasions, including the first two championships in 1981 and 1982. RMU also claimed back-to-back NEC Tournament titles in 1989 and 1990 and again in 2009 and 2010. Dynamic Duo - Led by guards Chipper Harris (1980-84) and Forest “Bay” Grant (1980-84), Robert Morris claimed the first two ECAC Metro Conference Tournament championships in 1981 and 1982. In four seasons, Harris and Grant combined for career totals of 3,434 points, 869 rebounds, 991 assists and 782 steals. Harris served as RMU’s all-time leading scorer with 1,940 points from the conclusion of his career until 1994 and still owns the Robert Morris career record for steals (450), while Grant is the program’s all-time leader in assists (555). The pair helped the ECAC Metro Conference garner its first victory in the NCAA Tournament, as the Colonials upended Georgia Southern, 64-54, in a play-in game at the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio, in the 1983 NCAA Tournament. Harris was enshrined in the RMU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995, followed by Grant in 1996. Walk On The Ocean - Former guard Myron Walker (1990-94) continued RMU’s lineage of stellar guards when he arrived on the scene in the fall of 1990 and was a key part of a 1991-92 squad that claimed the program’s fifth NEC Tournament championship and berth in the NCAA Tournament. In his second year with the program, Walker scored at the time an RMU singleseason school record 614 points en route to being named the 1992 NEC Player of the Year, the only sophomore in league history to earn the honor. Walker, a native of Aliquippa, Pa., went on to become the program’s alltime leading scorer with 1,965 points and also owns the single-season record for scoring average (20.1 ppg as a senior in 1993-94) and career marks for 20-point scoring games (47) and scoring average (18.7 ppg). Keep On Rockin ... Robert Morris played at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Ky., earlier this season, taking on a No. 1 ranked team for just the second time in program history in the Kentucky Wildcats. Rupp Arena is one of seven arenas that the Colonials have played in that has also featured a concert by Pearl Jam since the band’s formation in 1990. Also included in the list is the Palace at Auburn Hills (Detroit, Mich.), the Prudential Center (Newark, N.J.), Savage Arena (Toledo, Ohio), the Wolstein Center (Cleveland, Ohio), the Bryce Jordan Center (State College, Pa.) and the A.J. Palumbo Center (Pittsburgh, Pa.), home of the Duquesne Dukes.
Who Was Robert Morris? Robert Morris, Jr. (January 20, 1734 – May 8, 1806) was a Liverpool-born American merchant and signer of the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation and the United States Constitution. He was elected to the Pennsylvania Assembly, became the Chairman of the Pennsylvania Committee of Safety and was chosen as a delegate to the Second Continental Congress, where he served as chairman of the “Secret Committee of Trade” and as a member of the Committee of Correspondence. From 1781 to 1784, he served as the powerful Superintendent of Finance, managing the economy of the fledgling United States. As the central civilian in the government, Morris was, next to General George Washington, “the most powerful man in America.” His successful administration led to the sobriquet, “Financier of the Revolution.” He was one of Pennsylvania’s original pair of U.S. senators, serving from 1789 to 1795. A look at his legacy: - A portrait of Morris appeared on U.S. $1000 notes from 1862 to 1863 - Morris and Roger Sherman were the only two people to sign all three significant founding documents of the United States, the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, and the U.S. Constitution. - The dollar sign ("$") was in common use among private merchants during the middle of the 18th century. It referred to the two columns draped with scrolls on the Spanish milled dollar, which predated the U.S. Dollar. Morris was the first to use that symbol in official documents.
