The Colonials are 4-11 against the Mountaineers in their history, with their most recent win coming in 2012 at home in five sets (25-17, 25-17, 19-25, 18-25, 15-13). Senior lEADERSHIP Robert Morris head coach Dale Starr will be able to lean on a strong senior class in 2014, as his roster features seven fourth-year players. This senior class is the largest Starr has had during his tenure with the Colonials, surpassing the 2010 team which featured five seniors. go fish Sophomore outside hitter Arden Fisher was the Colonials’ lone selection on the All-NEC Second Team in 2013. In her rookie campaign, Fisher led RMU in kills (271) and points (318.5), and finished second on the team in digs (340). She also led the Colonials with nine double-doubles, which included a 27 dig, 14 kill effort at Murray State on September 13th, and a 35 assist, 10 dig performance against Fairleigh Dickinson on November 17th.

APRIL KNOWS APRIL Sophomore middle blocker April Krivoniak enjoyed a fine rookie season with 229 kills, 54 total blocks, and a .229 hitting percentage, but she might have been just as impressive in her other sport.

As a thrower on the Robert Morris track & field team, Krivoniak finished third at the NEC Outdoor Championships in the shot put with a throw of 12.69 meters (41’7.75”), which earned herself All-NEC Rookie Team accolades. preseason coaches’ poll Robert Morris was selected to finish third in the NEC Preseason Coaches’ Poll this season. LIU Brooklyn was an unanimous pick to win the league as they earned all seven possible first-place votes.

Central Connecticut State slotted in between the Blackbirds and Colonials, while Sacred Heart - who earned the other remaining first-place vote - was chosen to finish fourth. Bryant, Saint Francis U., Fairleigh Dickinson, and St. Francis Brooklyn rounded out the remainder of the poll.

In each of those 15 seasons, the Colonials have posted a winning record in league play; the longest such streak of any NEC member, past or present. new kids on the block Robert Morris welcomes two freshmen to the team this season in Michigan natives Deja Tamlin and Brianna Frakes. Tamlin, an outside hitter from Inkster, played her high school ball at Wayne Memorial, while Frakes, a setter from Clarkston, played at Clarkston High previously. The two rookies join senior Erica Robb and sophomore Madelyn Betts as current Colonials from The Great Lakes State.

Dale Starr enters his fifth season as the head coach of the Robert Morris University volleyball team. Starr brings a vast background in collegiate coaching to Robert Morris, having served as the head coach at McNeese State University from 2004 until he joined RMU in 2010. He was also the head coach at DivisionII Mississippi University for Women from 1999 to 2002.

In 2013, Starr guided a senior-less RMU team to their 15th-consecutive NEC Tournament berth, finishing the conference slate of the schedule with a record of 8-6. The Colonials led the conference in digs and Starr had a student-athlete make an All-NEC team for the fourth straight season. On Oct. 19, Starr earned his 200th career win with a three-set sweep of St. Francis (Pa.).

With a senior-heavy roster in 2012, Starr led the Colonials to their 14th-consecutive NEC Tournament behind the strength of 13 regular-season wins against NEC foes. Despite a slow start in early-season tournaments, Starr led RMU to a thrilling fiveset victory over West Virginia, the first victory over a Big-XII team in program history. Two members of Starr’s 2012 squad would earn All-NEC honors for the second-consecutive season while one studentathlete would lead the NEC in blocks per match.

The highlight of the 2011 season under Starr had to be the three-set sweep of crosstown-rival Pittsburgh.

The win was the first victory over the Panthers in program history. Behind a 10-6 record in the NEC, the Colonials would earn a postseason berth for the 13th-consecutive time while two of Starr’s studentathletes would earn All-NEC accolades.

In his first season with Robert Morris, two of Starr’s student-athletes claimed first team all-conference honors in 2010 and a total of four claimed weekly honors from the NEC. Some of the highlights for Starr’s first season may have come off the court due to the Colonials’ gaudy academic performances.

Starr then guided his squad to a victory over then six-time defending NEC champion LIU-Brooklyn in the conference tournament semifinals. After eliminating the Blackbirds in a thrilling, five-set match, RMU then competed in its 13th league championship match, extending its own conference record.
