- The fourth-place Crusaders have fallen back a bit in the past two weeks, as they carry a four-game losing streak into the weekend. However, all four of those losses were by a single goal, with two coming in overtime - These two teams have not met since a twogame series on Neville Island in Nov. 2013, which yielded a win for each side. RMU has played just four games all-time at the Hart Center in Worcester, Mass., going 2-1-1 - After facing back-to-back teams with topend offensive stars in Bentley and American International, RMU will square off against a more balanced attack this week. Holy Cross’ top scorer is junior defenseman Jake Bolton (6g, 9a), while he and three other players are tied for the team lead in goals - Under first-year head coach David Berard, the Crusaders have been quite stingy, allowing just 2.22 goals against per game, the top mark in Atlantic Hockey. In league games, Holy Cross is even better, sporting a 1.94 GAA - Senior goaltender Matt Ginn has been a huge part of the Crusaders’ defensive success, stopping over 93 percent of the shots he’s faced in 21 starts. However, freshman Paul Berrafato played both games last weekend against Mercyhurst, so Ginn’s status remains uncertain entering the series with RMU

WHO WAS ROBERT MORRIS? Born in 1734 in Liverpool, England, Robert Morris sailed to the United States with his father when he was 14 years old. Morris became a partner at the import export firm of Willing & Morris where he made his millions. After, he became the spokesman for opposition to the Stamp Act, smuggled arms for the new American army and navy, signed the Declaration of Independence, secured financing — often using his personal credit — to fight the Revolutionary War and served as a Pennsylvania state senator. He died in Philadelphia on May 8, 1806.

After a program-record 31-goal, 54-point junior year, Hobey Baker Award candidate Cody Wydo has paced RMU’s attack once again. The Michigan native, who entered the season as the active Division I leader in goals, has 32 points (14g, 18a) in his first 24 games, the second-highest total in the nation. His five-point night Jan. 17 vs. AIC gave him the all-time program scoring record at 139 points
A BA NN E R YE AR
The year 2014 saw the Colonials rise from the bottom of the Atlantic Hockey Conference to a league title and NCAA Tournament appearance, followed by a historic start to the 2014-15 season. From January to December, RMU went 29-9-6 for a .727 points percentage. The Colonials were also the highest-scoring program in the nation over that span, netting 172 goals in 44 games for a potent 3.91 goals-per-game average.
KUDOS FRO M AT L AN T IC HO CK EY
The Colonials have not only succeeded on a team-wide basis this season, they’ve also earned several individual honors. On top of Cody Wydo and Dalton Izyk each earning Atlantic Hockey monthly awards in October, Daniel Leavens won player of the month for December. RMU has claimed 12 AHC player of the week honors thus far. David Friedmann (Player of the Week), Cody Wydo (Player) and Terry Shafer (Goalie) have won two awards each, while Izyk (Goalie) has three.
RUNNI N G T HE GAU N T LE T
For the first time in program history, the Colonials played three different ranked teams consecutively from Dec. 29 - Jan. 4. RMU emerged from that grueling stretch with a 1-2-1 record, including a 4-2 win over No. 20 Penn State at the Three Rivers Classic and a 2-2 tie with No. 13 Bowling Green outdoors in Toledo. The Colonials also faced No. 14/17 Colgate in the 3RC championship game.
A NOT HE R S CO RIN G LINE
The 2014-15 Colonials boast impressive scoring depth, exemplified by the success of David Friedmann, Brady Ferguson and Daniel Leavens. Since being united on Nov. 1 against RIT, the trio has combined for 49 points (20g, 29a) in 17 games. They were especially prolific from Nov. 21 to Dec. 13, accumulating 11 goals and 16 assists during RMU’s five-game unbeaten streak (4-0-1).
T H E R ACE IS O N
Zac Lynch and Cody Wydo continue to duel for the program’s all-time lead in shorthanded goals. Lynch took the solo lead in that category by netting the fifth 4-on-5 goal of his Colonials career on Nov. 22 at American International. However, Wydo caught up with a shorthanded tally in the third period of RMU’s overtime win over Sacred Heart on Dec. 5.
W H AT A START
By winning their first five games of the 2014-15 season, the Colonials not only established the best start in program history, they also matched their longest win streak in 11 years of Division I hockey. In addition, RMU nine-game unbeaten streak to start (7-0-2) matched its longest ever.
NEW H EIGH T S IN T HE PO LLS
The Colonials broke into the USCHO.com top 20 on Nov. 3, taking the No. 18 ranking. It was the first time RMU had a number next to its name since 2012-13. RMU bumped up to No. 17 on two occasions during the fall semester, matching an all-time high for the program in any national survey. As of Jan. 5, the Colonials were ranked in seven of the previous eight USCHO polls.
COM I NG T HRO U GH L AT E
Robert Morris scored 57 goals in the third period or overtime last season, the third-highest total in the NCAA. The Colonials have continued that trend through the first 24 games of 2014-15, outscoring opponents 40-26 in the final regulation frame or later.
AVOI DIN G T HE GO O S E E GG
Robert Morris was not shut out in 2013-14 and, prior to the final game of the fall semester, the Colonials had gone 73 games since last getting blanked. That streak, which dated back to Jan. 25, 2013, ended with a 3-0 loss to Mercyhurst on Dec. 14 - although the Colonials fired 41 shots on goal.
FI G H TI NG T HE PO S S E S S IO N BAT T LE
Thus far this season, RMU has launched 50 percent of the shot attempts in its games, a measurement known as Corsi. Judging by Fenwick, which factors out blocked shots, the Colonials stand at 51 percent. In terms of simple shots on goal, RMU has owned 54 percent of those.

HEAD COACH DEREK SCHOOLEY
SCHOOLEY FILE
Head coach Derek Schooley has his Colonials primed to take the next step after a major breakthrough in 2013-14. Now in his 11th year in charge of RMU men’s hockey, Schooley enters the 2014-15 season with an overall record of 143-175-45. Last season, he led the Colonials to their first conference title and inaugural NCAA Tournament appearance. Following the banner year, Schooley signed a four-year contract extension that will keep him in Moon Township through the 2019-20 season. “I feel very fortunate to have started something very special from the ground up,” Schooley said. “Making the NCAA Tournament was very exciting for not only me personally, but for everyone who has been involved in the first decade of RMU hockey.” Schooley has been a college hockey coach for 17 seasons, starting with stints as an assistant at Cornell University and the Air Force Academy. In August of 2003, Schooley was named the first head varsity hockey coach in Robert Morris history. Since taking over the program, Schooley has coached 45 players who have signed pro contracts, five players that have taken part in NHL training camps and numerous others that have participated in NHL developmental camps. A native of St. Louis, Mo., Schooley is married to the former Alicia Batson from Middleville, Mich. They are the proud parents of Kaitlyn, Brendan and Taylor. Prior to coming to Robert Morris, Schooley spent five years at the Air Force Academy. He was an assistant coach for four years before spending one season as an associate head coach with Air Force. Before arriving at Air Force, Schooley spent a season as an assistant coach with Cornell during the 1997-98 season. Schooley started his coaching career with the Chicago Freeze of the North American Hockey League in 1997 as an assistant coach and director of scouting. Schooley has been a head coach at the USA Hockey Select 14, 15, 16 and 17 Festivals. He also has spoken at numerous USA Hockey youth coaching clinics as well as the USA Hockey Masters Coaching Clinic. In August of 2002, Schooley gained international coaching experience as he an assistant coach of the United States Under-18 Select Team, which placed fifth in the Junior World Cup. Following his graduation from Western Michigan, Schooley played for the Huntington Blizzard of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) during the 1994-95 season. During the 1995-96 campaign, Schooley spent part of the season with the Blizzard before joining the Flint (Mich.) Generals, where he helped the team to a Colonial Hockey League (CoHL) regular season and playoff championship. A 1994 graduate of Western Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications, Schooley was a four-year letterwinner as a defenseman with the Broncos. He tallied 23 assists and 27 total points as a senior, when he led Western Michigan with a plus-minus rating of plus-22 and won the team’s Grinder of the Year award.
