LAST TIME OUT In their most recent outing, the Colonials embarked on their current four-game road trip with a pair of contests against American International. In the only two meetings between the teams this season, the Colonials would split the two games with the Yellow Jackets. After suffering a setback on Friday night, RMU bouced back for a 5-4 victory on Saturday to earn two points in the AHA standings.
FRIDAY, JANUARY 18TH
The first game of the series saw the Colonials’ fall by a score of 4-1 to American International. The long goal for the Colonials was scored by Adam Brace in the second period as the senior capitalized on a turnover by the Yellow Jackets in their own defensive zone. AIC would strike twice in the first period and two more times in the third as goaltender Eric Levine stopped 26 of the 29 shots he faced in the defeat. Robert Morris would tie a season-high with 47 shots on goal in the game.
SATURDAY, JANUARY 19TH
Robert Morris would bounce back the following night with a 5-4 victory to fight off any chance of the team’s first losing streak of the season. The Colonials would open the scoring quickly with a goal by Cody Wydo less than three minutes in to the first period. Just 63 seconds later, defenseman Andrew Blazek would score his first of two goals in the game. A third RMU goal would come just after the six-minute park of the period as Mac Roy scored his first goal as a Colonial. American International would cut the lead to a single goal with the score 3-2 before Blazek would score on the power play with ten seconds remaining in the second period. The Yellow Jackets would make the score 4-3 with a shorthanded tally before Zach Hervato would pick up an empty-net goal in the final minute. Hervato’s goal would end up being the gamewinning goal as AIC would make the score 5-4 with a goal with sixteen seconds remaining in the game. Eric Levine improved to 11-5-2 while making 30 saves in the victory. Hervato’s goal would be his 50th career point as the forward became the 18th Colonial in program history to reach the milestone. All four goals scored by American International came on special teams; the Yellow Jackets scored three time while on the power play and once while shorthanded.
