LAST TIME OUT This past weekend, the Colonials concluded their five-game homestand with a weekend series against RIT. In the final meeting between the two teams this season, Robert Morris would split the series as the Colonials would win by a score of 3-0 on Friday before dropping a 4-3 contest on Saturday. For Robert Morris, the loss on Saturday was the first time this season that the team had lost when having the lead after two periods of play. With three assists on the weekend, freshman defenseman Chase Golightly was named Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Week. ABOUT ROBERT MORRIS The Colonials are averaging 2.89 goals per game while the team has allowed an average of 2.75 goals per game to its opponents. Senior goaltender Eric Levine is first all-time on the school’s career save percentage (.926) and goals-against average (2.69) lists. His five career shutouts are the most in program history. His career-best 14 victories this season are tied for the second most in a single season by a Colonial netminder; Brooks Ostergard recorded 14 wins during the 2010-2011 season. Senior forward Adam Brace leads Robert Morris with 18 assists and 28 points as the senior is just four points away from cracking the top-five in points while at Robert Morris as 79 of his 102 points have come as a Colonial. Trevor Lewis’ 83 points during his time at RMU is the number Brace is currently taking aim at. Sophomore forward Cody Wydo paces the Colonials with 13 goals this season that include three power-play goals, a short-handed goal, and five game-winning goals. Senior Brendan Jamison was named one of the nominees for the Senior CLASS Award this season after becoming the first Pittsburgh-born captain in Robert Morris history. Three seniors - Adam Brace, Zach Hervato, and Eric Levine - were nominated for the Hobey Baker Award as college hockey’s best player. The Robert Morris hockey team has partnered with the Bakersfield Condors and the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL to raise awareness of men’s cancer and the battle that former captain Chris Kushneriuk is currently in with the disease. Together, the teams that Kushneriuk has played for have raised over $20,000 for the cause. PLAYOFF PICTURE With an overall record of 15-11-2, the Colonials currently sit in seventh place with a conference record of 10-10-1, good enough to give Robert Morris 21 points in the standings. Despite being three spots away from a potential first-round bye for the Atlantic Hockey playoffs, the Colonials are only one point from fourth place and securing a path to the quarterfinals. Ahead of RMU sits Holy Cross, Canisius, and Connecticut; all of whom are tied for the fourth position with 22 points. Ahead of them sits conference leading Niagara followed by Mercyhurst and Air Force. If the playoffs were to start today, Robert Morris would host Army in the first round.
