Robert Morrisconcludes a five-game homestand as the Colonials host RIT this weekend. Both games against the Atlantic Hockey rival are scheduled to start at 7:05 p.m. The two contests against the Tigers are the final two games of a five-game homestand for the Colonials. In the first three contests, Robert Morris swept Sacred Heart before falling to Mercyhurst in the team’s most recent game. With RIT scheduled to come in to Pittsburgh this weekend, the Colonials will have played five games over a span of nine days with all of the contests taking place on home ice where the team is 4-4-1 on the season. Five of the final eight games for RMU will be at the 84 Lumber Arena. In the nine years of the Robert Morris hockey program, the Colonials have never had a winning road record; that could change this season as RMU is currently 8-6-1 away from Pittsburgh with three regular season road contests remaining.
LAST TIME OUT In their most recent outing, the Colonials continued their five-game homestand with a contest against Mercyhurst. In the first of three meetings between the in-state rivals this season, Robert Morris would fall by a score of 8-1 in the worst loss for the program since the Colonials fell to North Dakota on the road by a score of 8-0 during the 2010-2011 season. For Robert Morris, the loss was the worst ever sustained on home ice by the Colonials. Currently, the Colonials sit in a tie for sixth place in the Atlantic Hockey standings. ABOUT ROBERT MORRIS With an overall record of 14-10-2, the Colonials currently sit in a tie for sixth place with a conference record of 9-9-1, good enough to give Robert Morris 19 points in the standings. The Colonials are averaging 2.88 goals per game while the team has allowed an average of 2.81 goals per game to its opponents. Senior goaltender Eric Levine is first all-time on the school’s career save percentage (.926) and goals-against average (2.72) lists. His four career shutouts are the most in program history. His career-best 13 victories this season are the third most in a single season by a Colonial netminder. Senior forward Adam Brace leads Robert Morris with 17 assists and 27 points as he surpassed the 100 career points milestone in Saturday’s contest against Sacred Heart. Sophomore forward Cody Wydo paces the Colonials with 12 goals this season. Senior Brendan Jamison was named one of the nominees for the Senior CLASS Award this season after becoming the first Pittsburgh-born captain in Robert Morris history. Three seniors - Adam Brace, Zach Hervato, and Eric Levine - were nominated for the Hobey Baker Award as college hockey’s best player. The Robert Morris hockey team has partnered with the Bakersfield Condors and the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL to raise awareness of men’s cancer and the battle that former captain Chris Kushneriuk is currently in with the disease. Together, the teams that Kushneriuk has played for have raised over $20,000 for the cause. UP NEXT FOR THE COLONIALS After the games against RIT, the Colonials will conclude the season with three home-and-home series against Niagara, Canisius, and Mercyhurst. The first of those series will see the Colonials travel Niagara on Friday before hosting the nationally-ranked Purple Eagles on Saturday.
