Thoughout the battle of Division I hockey programs in the Keystone State, RMU has dominated its instate rivlas this season with an overal record of 5-1-0 against Mercyhurst and Penn State. The W, 6-2 Colonials knocked off the nationally ranked Lakers three of four times this year while sweeping Penn W, 3-2 (OT) State in the teams first meeting of the 2012-13 season. Series vs. Penn State
The Colonials swept Penn State in the two team’s first-ever meetings. RMU won the opening contest, 7-1 before defeating the Nittany Lions 4-1 in the rematch game on Sunday. Sophomore forward Rebecca Vint tallied six goals in the two-game series including a five goal single-game performance in game one. Senior captain Dayna Newsom tallied her only short-handed of the season in game two of the series. Senior forwards Kelsey Thomas and Cobina Delaney each tallied three assists in the 7-1 victory. Five points in the two contests were tallied by Colonial defenseman. Senior Jamie Joslin led the RMU defensemen with a goal and an assists while junior Brandi Pollock dished out two assists
Scouting Penn State
The Nittany Lions are coming off a CHA series with RIT in which PSU fell in both games. The week prior, Penn State earned an overtime tie against Lindenwood in State College, Pa. Freshman forward Shannon Yoxheimer currently leads the squad in scoring with 28 points, 13 goals and 15 assists. Junior forward Taylor Gross sits behind Yoxheimer with five goals and 14 assists. Sophomore forward Jess Desorcie ranks third on the team in scoring with 18 points, five goals and 13 assists. As whole, Penn State has scored 64 goals this season, 16 of which have come on the power play. The Nittany Lions have tallied seven game-winning goals thus far and have totaled 810 shots this season. Junior goaltender Nicole Paniccia has seen over 1350 of action in the net for PSU. Paniccia has tallied a 3.17 goals against average with a .924 save percentage. The junior has allowed only two short-handed goals this season while registering 881 saves.
