The Colonials look to repeat as College Hockey America (CHA) Tournament Champions as they advance the the CHA Semi-Finals. The feat will not coming easy as Robert Morris and Mercyhurst faceoff in the semi-final matchup which serves as a rematch of last year’s CHA Tournament Championship game. Last season, the Colonials upset the nine-time tournament champions, 3-2. RMU is the only other team besides Mercyhurst to win a CHA Tournament title in the league’s ten year history.
Series vs. Mercyhurst
In both teams four meetings this season, RMU has come out on top in three of the four contest. The Colonials earned their first-ever sweep of Mercyhurst back in Decemeber when the teams faceoffed in Pittsburgh. In the most recent series, RMU won game one by a score of 4-2 before falling in the rematch contest the next day. In the four games, RMU has scored six power play goal on 27 chances for a .222 conversion percentage. The Colonial penalty unit has gone 17-20 for an .850 kill percentage. Junior assistant captain Thea Imbrogno has led the RMU offensive effort against the Lakers this season tallying five points, three goals and two assists. Senior goaltender Kristen DiCiocco has recorded 94 saves in the four games this year.
Scouting Mercyhurst
Mercyhurst currently leads the CHA in goals scored with 142, assists with 250 and power play goals with 40. The Lakers rank third in penalty kill percentage (87.1) and first in conversion percentage (22.2). Sophomore forward Christine Bestland leads the Lakers with 66 points this season (26 goals, 40 assists). Freshman forward Emily Janiga ranks second on the team with 40 points while fellow freshman Jenna Dingeldein ranks third with 39 points. Senior goaltender Stephanie Ciampa has seen the most action in net playing 1110 minutes for the Lakers. The senior owns a 1.40 goals against average and a .935 save percetange. Ciampa has 17 wins under her belt this W, 2-1 (3OT) season.
