Series vs. RIT
The Colonials and Tigers last met three weeks ago at the RMU Island Sports Center. The games were the first between the two squads since RIT moved from NCAA Division III after a record-setting 28 wins in 2011-12. The Tigers were victorious in the first series against the Colonials with matching 2-1 victories. The Colonials scored first in both games but eventually fell in two tightly played matches. Tigers goaltender Ali Binnington led the tigers to victory with 60 saves in the series. Colonial forwards Kelsey Thomas and Cobina Delaney each registered goals in the losing effort. With RIT trailing RMU by only one point in the CHA standings, the Colonials look for their first conference victory over RIT this weekend.
Scouting RIT
The Tigers have beaten three CHA opponents including Lindenwood, Penn State and Robert Morris. RIT sits behind RMU in the CHA standings in 4th place. The Tigers lead the CHA in penalty minutes with 290 but have the second ranked power play, converting on 21% of their opportunities. Junior forward Kourtney Kunichika leads the Tigers with 18 points (7-11-18). A trio of senior forwards; Kim Schlattman (10-6-16), Ariane Yokoyama (5-11-16) and Tenecia Hiller (9-6-15) have also lead the Tigers offensive firepower. Kunichika and Schlattman have both captured CHA Player of the Week honors this year. Sophomore goaltender Ali Binnington has recorded a record of 8-5-2 in 17 appearances this year. She leads Tigers goaltenders with a .922 save percentage and 2.00 goals against average. Her impressive play has earned her three CHA Goaltender of the Week honors.
