4 April 2011

Dear Students, I am sorry that I could not meet you on 23 March 2011 as I unexpectedly had to hospital for six days in that week. No doubt, this disruption to our schedule was as demoralising to some of you as it was to me, and I was sorry to see - perhaps partly for that reason - only so few of you in our class of 30 March 2011. Here is again the list of headings and sub-headings that refers to the ‘six hundred essential words’ for the TOEIC. I have hyper-linked your vocabulary pages for this week to the categories GENERAL BUSINESS / Conferences, PERSONNEL / Salaries and Benefits, PURCHASING, Inventory, ENTERTAINMENT / Museums, and HEALTH, Hospitals. The hyper-linked pages PURCHASING / Inventory and ENTERTAINMENT / Museums each contain an exercise as well (in addition to the vocabulary). Further, for the bolded sub-headings below, there are also new listening comprehension exercises, which you should print out for our next class from here. At the very beginning of the document at that link, you will two additional vocabulary exercises. Please do those vocabulary exercises on paper, and bring the worksheets with you on Wednesday. I have a different - somewhat more challenging - listening comprehension practice for you that is based on those vocabulary exercise, and we should begin our class on Wednesday with that practice. (Unfortunately, however, for both technical and copyright reasons, I cannot upload, and link for you, the audio-recordings for the listening comprehension exercises. So, we can only do them in the class, as far as our time allows.) At the end of the document at the above link, there is a slightly corrected version of an earlier one of my letters to you. I.
