Flexitallic, the global sealing solution and gasket specialist, has won first prize at the prestigious DuPont Plunkett Awards 2013 for its innovative Flange Rescue Gaskets (FRG). The award honours innovative use of fluoropolymers in the oil and gas, architectural and aviation industries. Flexitallic, which is based in Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire, secured first place for its Flange Rescue Gaskets which provide an unsurpassed maintenance solution for the chemical and oil and gas industries. An international jury of experts met in September at the DuPont Geneva Innovation Center, Switzerland, and selected suitable entrants that best met the judging criteria of degree of innovation, breadth of commercial application, sustainability and optimum use of the materials’ potential. The experts who were responsible for making the shortlist only accepted around a dozen entries due to the strict criteria of the competition. The FRG enables corroded flange joints in pipelines in the oil and gas industry to be sealed easily and cost-effectively. This patented system has a precision manufactured metal body coated with expanded Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE).

www.sosmagazine.biz

The high compressibility of the PTFE type used ensures that the FRG conforms even to highly corroded and damaged flange

6

surfaces. This eliminates the need for any costly machining of flange faces or replacing complete flanges. Alex Lattimer, Marketing Director at Flexitallic, said: “Flexitallic has been at the forefront of gasket technology for over a century and winning this award further demonstrates our continued drive for innovation through the creation of solutions that meet the challenges of our customers. It also reaffirms our commitment to keeping our customers ‘Flexitallic Safe’, which is our intrinsic approach to business that demonstrates our commitment to delivering products, services and professional support to maintain the highest standards of safety.” We are very proud to win the prestigious DuPont Plunkett Award, which is globally recognized as a significant accolade for innovative companies.” Sylvie Gallou, Director DuPont Chemicals & Fluoroproducts (DC&F) EMEA, explains: “Once again we were positively surprised by the innovation potential of this 75 year old material, which became known globally under the DuPont™ Teflon® trademark.

This underlines the statement of Dr. Plunkett, who discovered the first fluoroplastic, that the use of Teflon® is only limited by imagination. We are proud that, by initiating the Plunkett Awards in 1988, we created an instrument to permanently encourage and reward this creativity.”

FERGUS EWING VISITS THE UNDERWATER CENTRE

Mr Ewing, who is also MSP for Inverness and Nairn, was visiting the subsea training and trials facility to discuss development plans and see first-hand the Centre’s work-class ROVs and two new barges, in which it has invested to meet the demand for its commercial diving and ROV Pilot Technician training courses. The new vessels, the renamed Loch Sunart and Loch Scavaig, have been purchased from Western Ferries (Clyde) Limited. One of the barges will be fitted out with two of the Centre’s work-class ROVs (WROV) and supporting ROV launch and recovery systems (LARS) and used for work-class ROV training – providing realistic training for students to learn how to launch work-class ROVs from a moving vessel. The Centre is embarking on developing its ROV training next year to provide students with the opportunity to train with work-class ROV systems, given that the majority will go on to work with these when they enter industry. Students will benefit from having hands on experience with the three WROVs, which were loaned to the Centre by Fugro, one of the world’s largest ROV operators, to offer additional courses that can extend students’ training and development while at the Centre. The Underwater Centre is working closely with industry to establish the needs and determine the level of training required.

As General Manager Steve Ham explains, the Centre is aiming to up its capabilities to cope with the demand of the very buoyant energy sector and is also develop its courses to meet the requirements of industry. “We are pleased to have hosted a visit by Mr Ewing and have the opportunity to show him the investment which is being made by the Centre and its partners in industry,” Steve said. “This is a great example of The Underwater Centre and the rest of industry working together to deliver a clear need in the market place. We have put a considerable investment in these new barges because we realise the importance of giving our students the best, most up to date facilities which offer training in a contextual environment.”

Minister sees new vessels and discusses plans for development

The Underwater Centre is a purpose built training facility which incorporates an extensive pier complex including four dive stations, classrooms, workshops and decompression chambers. With accommodation and additional classrooms based at the landward end of the pier, The Underwater Centre is set up to provide its students with the skills and experience to succeed in their new careers, and continue providing the subsea industry with the workforce that it needs.

For more information about The Underwater Centre contact: Tel: +44 (0)1397 703 786 Or e-mail: fortwilliam@theunderwatercentre.com

The other vessel will be used for the development of diver training and subsea technology trials. The investment in the new barges comes after the Centre has just announced an increase in the number of students through its doors, with even more projected by the end 2013.

www.sosmagazine.biz

Energy Minister, Fergus Ewing, said: “What struck me is The Underwater Centre engagement in working closely with industry to invest in making young people their business and allowing them the opportunity to fulfil their potential with specifically designed training required to support the subsea industry. The Scottish Government is committed to supporting continued growth in Scotland’s energy sector and to allowing our young people to benefit from the tremendous opportunities that this sector presents now and in the future. That is why Scotland’s Oil and Gas Strategy, developed in conjunction with industry, lays out a plan to help the industry go from strength to strength, and rising capital investment – rising to over £13bn in 2013 - demonstrates the confidence investors and the industry have in Scotland.”

Tekmar unveils cable installation and protection system

The TekTube cable protection system is an onshore installed solution thus reducing the time and complexity offshore.

Tekmar’s chief executive officer, James Richie, said: “Through capitalising on our energy and engineering experience, our dedicated R&D team have developed a ground-breaking solution which offers a major step change in cable operations. With more jacket foundation planned to be used in the future, we have optimised a solution of cable protection and J-tube

into one, allowing all the preparation works to be onshore thus refusing the risk and cost of offshore. TekTube reinforces Tekmar’s commitment to help drive down costs and minimise risk of subsea cabling in offshore wind and oil and gas’s subsea umbilicals risers and flowlines (SURF) sector.”

News & Products

Tekmar Energy has reinforced its marketleading position in the supply of offshore cable protection systems by unveiling a new innovation which will contribute significantly to reducing installation time and costs, and minimise associated cable risks onshore.

The system is a game changing technology which replaces the need for costly convention steel J-tubes, a fabrication taken from the oil and gas industry which protects power cables as they are routed up a subsea foundation. TekTube has also been optimised to be installed onshore rather than offshore as with current technologies on the market. Before being transported to the offshore windfarm site, the TekTube system will be secured to the wind turbine foundation, sealed and prepared to be received by the Cable Installation Vessel. TekTube has been developed utilising the same protection methodology as the market-leading, proven industry standard TekLink system. The Teklink system, which was developed by Tekmar in 2008, revolutionises the connection and 30year protection of subsea power cables into monopole foundations and has been supplied into over 24 projects, over 3,000 systems since its entry into the market. TekTube offers an alternative to Teklink for jacket, gravity-base and floating foundations

TekTube further enhances the company’s proprietary suite of cable protection systems, which can accommodate an extensive range of cabling sizes, including its industry-leading TekLink innovation.

Pacson Valves Ltd Pumps & Valves

High Integrity Valves Setting the standard Pacson Valves is a key supplier of high integrity valves to the world oil and gas market, and is a leading developer for severe service and highly critical applications. A privately owned company with its headquarters and modern 50,000 sq ft manufacturing facility in Dundee, Scotland, Pacson Valves also maintains a global presence with sales representation in every major oil and gas producing country in the world.

www.sosmagazine.biz

Pacson Valves Limited began trading in 1990 having secured the UK distribution rights for Autoclave Engineers Valves and Fittings range, which complimented its own design of high quality subsea cartridge needle valves, and double block and bleed needle valves. Over the next few years the company experienced steady growth, to the point where it decided to focus solely on its own products. With the in-house ability to develop manufacturing to suit valve products, Pacson Valves began to introduce additional types of valves to compliment its original range, including through conduit gate valves, ball valves, and check valves in smaller bore sizes. From here the size range began to increase to include larger bore main piping and manifold valves, resulting in a complete valve package.

16

Through this offering, Pacson Valves has dealt with all of the major oil companies, EPCI contractors and wellhead manufacturers over the last two decades. The company’s valve products are supplied to all major subsea oil producing areas including the North Sea, Gulf of Mexico, Australia and West Africa. In particular, the scope of this supply sees small bore valves going to wellhead manufacturers in the UK, Norway, US, and the Far East, and large bore pipe and manifold valves to EPCI contractors and oil companies worldwide. “We pride ourselves on the quality of products and services, with a total inhouse capability for the manufacture

of bespoke surface and subsea valves, and pressure control products of up to 16 inch/400 mm bore, or 25,000 psi working pressure. This range consists of ball, gate, needle, and check valves. All design and engineering activities are performed inhouse, and supported through significant investment into manpower, training, hardware and software. Our in-house machining facility is capable of processing a wide range of valves and equipment components in standard or exotic materials, before assembly and testing,” describes Derek Mason, Business Development Manager. Particular improvement investments include the latest 3D modelling packages, which allows for accurate modelling and design of valve components, as well as complete assemblies.

Pacson Valves’ manufacturing department’s CNC machines also operate with the latest tooling technology, which enables the company to remain at the forefront of machining techniques. This results in the highest quality components and most costeffective machining processes. Product and process compliance is monitored by the independent

“As Pacson products are of a highly engineered nature, we feel it is important to discuss the customer’s specification at the earliest opportunity to ensure the customer is getting exactly what they want,” notes Derek. “As an example, we are in regular discussion with our customers regarding changes and updates to international specifications and how these changes affect valve manufacturing.”

production comes from offshore and this percentage will increase over the years as more subsea fields become economically viable due to improvements in drilling technology and the like. The market for subsea isolation valves is buoyant worldwide with almost 300 Subsea Development projects in various stages. This can cause constraints within the supply chain in order to cope with a surge of requirements, however Pacson Valves has built a strong supply base over the years which allows competitive lead times,” enthuses Derek. The company’s order book reflects this optimism, as since March 2010 Pacson Valves has seen its forward orders starting to rebuild, signalling the end of the recession for the business. By October 2011 the order book was back to the same level as before the recession, and

2012 saw the best order intake in the company’s history. 2013 is expected to be another strong year for Pacson and over the past 24 months Pacson Valves has increased staffing level by 18 per cent in key areas such as sales, quality, purchasing, production and engineering, aligned with increased investment in machinery. As such, Derek is confident about where the business will go to next:

Pumps & Valves

Quality Assurance and Quality Control departments, with the company’s own expectations of quality set to meet and exceed all relevant customer and international specifications. This is ensured through on-site facilities for hardness testing, liquid penetrant and magnetic particle inspection, as well as two CMM measurement arms for highly accurate dimensional measurement of machined components. Pacson Valves’ latest acquisition in the quality segment is the capability to carry out positive material identification (PMI) of raw materials, which further satisfies its customer’s needs.

“So far in 2013 we expect to meet our targets for the year. There have been significant project awards in the second quarter and more are expected to follow throughout the remainder of the year. With the ongoing growth in subsea oil & gas production and demand, we see opportunities to further expand the business worldwide, and will continue to invest in people and equipment to meet that challenge.”

However this doesn’t mean that Pacson Valves is without challenges in the market, as Derek continues: “There is a far higher emphasis on product validation testing, which ultimately increases the costs of the product and lead times. We have our own in-house testing facilities and can accommodate customer’s special requirements but clients don’t always appreciate that no one vendor can fully qualify their entire range just waiting for an order. Some customers also ask for material specifications which are very difficult to actually achieve in the market place. Therefore we always try to advise and guide the customer to ensure the best product is achieved, based on a relationship of mutual understanding and trust.”

“We predominantly manufacture bespoke subsea isolation valves as currently approximately 30 per cent of world

Today the subsea sector of the oil and gas market is of major focus for Pacson Valves, as demonstrated by its coming presence at key industry events such as Subsea 2014 and most recently Offshore Europe 2013 in Aberdeen .

HATLAPA- Triplex offshore deck machinery package caters to your needs The demand for more comprehensive and extensive machinery packages has increased over the years within the marine industry. In order to respond to this demand, the marine equipment manufacturer Hatlapa and its daughter company Triplex AS have created a deck machinery package aimed specifically at vessels which operate in the demanding conditions in the offshore industry. Hatlapa is known for its high quality and reliable marine equipment in all areas of shipbuilding and now together with Triplex, the two companies are able to offer specific solutions which combine the expertise within the companies. The two companies worked together already prior to the purchase of Triplex in 2011. The history of the two companies extends back to 1990s and a cooperation of supplying winches and net handling systems to the Chilean fishing industry. The compatibility of the two companies is even more evident in recent times as the launch of a new Offshore Package will take place in late June 2013.

www.sosmagazine.biz

The Offshore Package combines the expertise of the companies into one, fully compatible and customizable package.

22

The offshore specific equipment from both companies is now a collective list of 23 elements that can be tailored to a specific package depending on the requirements of the customer. Hatlapa is known for their range of winches and especially the AHT winches, which are available in low or high pressure hydraulic drives to suit the customers’ needs with power, as well as size wise in single, double or even triple waterfall designs. The Combined Anchor-Mooring and Mooring winches, secondary winches as well as the Research Winches are also supplied fully customized if requested and have stood the test of time and are known for their durability and reliability in extreme conditions.

All winches are fully customizable and have a variety of additional extras to make the operating of the winches safer, as well as increase the lifespan of the equipment. Additional equipment such as chain stoppers and capstans for the winches can now be incorporated into the package. A variety of servicing plans are also available. Triplex AS has been working in the offshore sector for centuries and their cranes are a testament to the company’s expertise within the fishery and offshore sector. In order to branch out more into the offshore sector, Triplex had designed a variety of specialist Multi Deck Handlers.

The Multi Deck Handlers can be divided into two categories, for AHT vessels and for PSVs. The AHT MDH package includes: Lifting and pulling capacities of 42t and 30t over the whole deck

·

Anchor handling operations performed with remote control

·

Camera systems and floodlights

·

Heavy capacity lifting manipulator crane

·

Separate winch with 22t lifting capacity

·

Manipulator designed for “fine” operations

·

Separate wire clamp

The MDH for the PSVs include ·

20t lifting capacity

·

Loading and offloading containers in port

·

Moving and storing containers offshore

·

Tandem lifts of pipes and large items

Both packages can be enhanced with a variety of additional equipment such as wires, buoys, clamps and anchors. As safety in any situation is imperative, especially in rough or extreme conditions, the package also includes a variety of safety options. For the HATLAPA winches, a quick release option called SLIPSAFE is incorporated, this means that there is no claw clutch and the chain can be released through a slipping clutch with minimum break force.

the chain or wire in the right way on deck and allows for a more secure way of handling on-deck chains and ropes. Additional guiding tools are guide pins, stop pins, wire clamps, rope friction stoppers, tensioners and tractioners. A new addition to the safety equipment offered by Triplex is a Load Measurement System (LMS). This system is incorporated into the Shark Jaws and it measures the active load which is displayed on a monitor on the Bridge. The system will also be able to give out an alarm, if the load is about to, or is exceeding the defined safety perimeters. The LMS can also be used to unwind and untangle chains on deck. The operator is able to connect the chain from the winch to the

Shark Jaw and thus eliminate any spin and make for a safer operating environment. As household name in the Norwegian market, Triplex has recently secured a contract from BOA Offshore. The order entails a Tripelx MDH 42, as well as Shark Jaws, Vertical Guide Pins and a Spooling Block. Offshore Sales Manager Even Kippernes is excited about the cooperation: “This is the ultimate deck equipment for anchor handlers. The Triplex MDH can lift, move and park heavy anchors up to 42 tons and pull heavy chains and grappling hooks weighting up to 30 tons.” The delivery for this order is scheduled for the beginning of 2014.

www.sosmagazine.biz

Triplex also offers a variety of safety measurements taking into consideration that anchor and other chains on the deck can cause major safety hazards. The best know safety measure are the Shark Jaws, this was invented by Triplex in 1983 and is a unique way of handling chains and wires. This option automatically positions

New Nautilus Subsea Hooks - Solutions to old ROV problems Nautilus Rigging (UK) Ltd have launched a new, unique, range of ROV operated lifting hooks for subsea operations. The hooks utilize patented Nautilus “positive locking” technology, an innovation that significantly enhances the operational and safety aspects of subsea/ROV lifting operations. The company, which won the Woefel, Best Mechanical Engineering Award from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Innovation of the year award at the Offshore Support Vessel conference has invested over £150,000 in developing this new type of subsea hook which complements their existing range of topside hooks. The new hooks feature Nautilus’s patented “positive locking” system which ensures each load is operationally secure until released by the ROV. It is the first, and only, range of subsea hooks to include such innovations which address the long standing concerns held by industry over the operational safety and suitability of traditional internal spring latch ROV hooks. Bill Toon, Managing Director, said “ The nautilus ROV hook is specifically designed to prevent unintentional self release of the load which is a known, inherent, design hazard associated with the standard spring latch “snap on” design of ROV hooks, especially when loads pass through the “transition zone” (from air to water) which, under the varying hydrodynamic forces, can produce “slack” in the lifting train and allow the slings to flip up over the latch and then pull back down through the hook and self release the load which often results in costly equipment damage and recovery operations”

www.sosmagazine.biz

Model NH-SS22E SWL: 22 Tonnes

“The risk of self release is eliminated with the Nautilus ROV hook where the positive locking function maintains load integrity until released by the ROV, in addition the positive locking arm also prevents the hooks from unintentional hooking on to umbilical cables and subsea equipment” The new Nautilus ROV hooks incorporate all the innovative safety features of the companies topside hooks, including the integrated safety handle and dual sided sliding lock mechanism which makes the topside handling a simple, safe and secure operation, removing fingers from the hazardous hook/sling interface area and promoting an easy one handed operating method.

Model NH-ROV22E Length: 682mm Width: 264mm Thickness: 62mm

“Following 18 months of development, testing and field trials we were very excited to launch this new product at the premier Subsea2013 event in Aberdeen back in February, The Industry has responded very positively to this new development and our initial batch of sample production hooks sold out within weeks of the launch event. The first full production run of the NH-ROV22E (Long shank) and the NH-SS22E (eye top) subsea hooks has completed an stock will be available for supply from end of June” Mr Toon advised

Bespoke 316SS Stud & Wire assembly rated to 1200kg

Manufacturing Chains in the William Hackett cHains West Midlands since ltd. 1892

Hot Stab

William Hackett Chains Ltd. has manufactured chain products in the West Midlands since 1892 making it one of the oldest companies in this industry. In recent years the manufacturing in the UK has focused on bespoke chain products and assemblies whilst cooperating with key manufacturers abroad. WHC lifting division was formed in Alnwick, Northumberland in 1989 and this operation has grown into a market leader in the UK lifting market. WHC prides itself on working closely with distributors and their clients to adapt and improve products for specific applications by using in house technical expertise and manufacturing facilities and also those of our key suppliers. This philosophy has led to the development a range of subsea lifting products designed for use by ROVs including chain hoists with ROV friendly interfaces. Originally the challenge was to try to ensure that standard hoists would function subsea but it was concluded that whilst most standard hoists would function subsea, there were hazard factors unique to the subsea environment that caused problems in standard hoists. It also became apparent that subsea operations were being undertaken at greater depths where only ROVs could work. We knew that we could engineer solutions to deal with these challenges and we developed the Hackett Shark subsea chain hoist as a result. We stock the component parts for these ROV hoists because our commitment with specialised products is the same as standard items, which is to deliver from stock. Our hydraulically driven ROV chain hoist represents a major step forward in subsea lifting. It offers complete control with the huge benefit of built in load limiting because we can factory set the hydraulics to a specific maximum load. Subsea industry staffing solutions to be part of the “toolkit”

The strength of the industry is such that opportunities are there to grow this figure further to £11 billion. Our recent Business Activity Review of 750 companies shows Britain continues to outperform competitors due to its skill set, expertise and the development of innovative technology. The major threat to this success and future growth is the widely reported shortage of skills. Continually poaching the best and brightest from a shrinking talent pool is not the answer and to achieve growth we need to look for new solutions. With this in mind we launched Subsea Target earlier this year to help companies accelerate the pace at which they can develop and deploy people with the relevant skills or potential. The scheme also provides advice and guidance to individuals looking to change career path and enter the subsea sector. Already 15 companies, large and small, across the supply chain have signed up to the programme. They are focusing on potential recruits with transferable skills as they look to appoint competent staff from different backgrounds.

To aid companies in this we have developed a ‘Toolkit’ to provide the additional support and infrastructure required so new recruits can become fully proficient in a subsea role as quickly as possible.

Subsea

In the United Kingdom the subsea sector is worth £8.9 billion and comprises 45% of the global market.

For many companies the issue is not simply about finding people but more about how they recruit, how they retain staff and how they equip them with the skills required to do the job. Resources for growth are required and this means having the right corporate context and organisational culture into which they can bring people. It is important to explore pre-employment strategies, structured inductions, personal development plans, mentoring, coaching and encouraging teamwork. This is in addition to having a competence management and measurement system alongside a comprehensive training programme. We have fully investigated what the industry needs in terms of skills and explored the existing programmes which work well for individual companies. With the long term focus on educating children on the attractiveness of career in subsea and encouraging the uptake of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects we are working to secure the industry for years to come.

As subsea field umbilical arrays grow ever more complex the integrity of the components becomes increasingly critical. It is paramount that subsea electrical arrays are made up of umbilical cables & connectors that are known to be good.

The Zetechtics C-Kore is a Subsea (rechargeable) battery powered electronics package, fully integrated into the dummy plug normally fitted to the electrical connectors of subsea termination heads and umbilical / jumper assemblies.

Unfortunately it is all too easy for jumper assemblies to be damaged in transit between factory floor and sea floor. Once the array is fully assembled and in place on the sea bed then fault finding becomes highly problematic and test via disconnection runs the very real risk of introducing further faults. Possible faults could include;

When Subsea, the C-Kore can detect the arrival of any ROV (via light source or proximity sensors), and when activated, installation resistance, continuity and capacitance (cable length) are measured automatically.

C-Kore is designed to provide assurance to field installation engineers that their umbilical systems will meet the client requirements by checking electrical integrity immediately prior to connector make-up

Tests are performed between all / any required electrical cores and the surrounding sea water. Lowest measured values are shown on the full colour OLED display; these values can be used to determine if any damage has occurred to the subsea component. The operator then makes up the connection in the normal way and can be sure that known good components are being assembled at every point in the process.

Ensuring Company Consistency when Embarking on Internationalisation Scotland’s economic links with the rest of the world are strengthening, with international activity playing a key role in the success of the oil and gas industry. Scottish firms are currently active in over 100 markets across the globe, and global sales have increased by 8.4 percent from 2011/12 to reach £8.2 billion [Scottish Enterprise Survey of international activity in the oil and gas sector 2011-12]. Internationalisation through exporting skills and resources into foreign regions is often the best investment a business can make to ensure its products and services successfully reach global limits, says Hydro Group managing director Doug Whyte Having an on-the-ground presence in an overseas region can help a company gain a competitive edge and significantly help with developing client relationships. Earlier this year, as part of our strategic growth plan, Hydro Group opened a SE Asia office to offer its range of subsea optical cables, electrical cables and connectors to the wider energy and subsea engineering markets, and broaden the company’s global reach. However, it is essential that when a company moves into foreign regions, it ensures business consistency and compliance over international borders, with the people employed to head up a new division proficient in company messaging and best practices from existing offices.

Hydro Group has already seen success in sharing skills across international borders by training a key member of the new Singapore office. Gabriel Tan was appointed, a highly competent and skilled local technical support supervisor, having spent 16 years in the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) as a highly qualified electronic technician and trainer. To maintain and guarantee the level of knowledge and capabilities for which Hydro Group is known globally, Gabriel went from Singapore to the Group headquarters, in Aberdeen for intensive training over four months. Throughout this time he became proficient in Hydro Group’s manufacturing processes and technology, as well as the company’s machining methods, moulding procedures, electrical test and inspection procedures. The process has enabled Gabriel to return to Singapore to establish operations with the confidence and experience that is essential in order to make the enterprise a success. The transfer of skills is vitally important to the success of the Singapore office and Hydro Group as a whole, ensuring that the company delivers a consistent service and quality product globally.

www.sosmagazine.biz

Gabriel’s role will have great influence on the recruitment and training of local employees. His blend of technical and supervisory skills will enhance the service and support offered from the Hydro Group Singapore facility.

32

As the international export of skills, goods and services increases, global expansion is key to ensure a company grows and evolves with the times. As well as providing employment for locals, the training of regionally based teams helps to develop well equipped staff with Hydro Group’s skills and knowledge, to ensure company standards are retained, but they are also in tune with the language and culture of the region. An SME needs to ensure that its standards are maintained and that those employed understand the ethics and ethos of the company to guarantee successful results when moving into international regions.

subsea packages in addition to a suite of pipeline installation-related products and pipeline repair solutions. The company adopts an operationally-led approach to design to suit the specific requirements of its customers. Scott Macknocher, managing director of Ennsub, said: “The progression of Ennsub from a business concept to a credible industry provider of bespoke subsea products has been fast-paced and incredibly rewarding. “Competing against recognised subsea stalwarts is a challenge but we like to think our agile approach to business and thorough understanding of what the end user needs, differentiates us from our peers. We are extremely proud of the results already achieved and look forward to building on our success and strengths to become a world leader in the subsea sector.”

Ennsub has also secured the internationally recognised ISO 9001 accreditation for quality.

Subsea

Ennsub, the independent subsea design, engineering and technology company, has secured an order book with options in excess of £7.5 million for execution in 2014, a large proportion of which is for major international subsea installation contractors.

John Smith, the former CEO of Subsea 7, is a non-executive director of Ennsub. He said the firm shows strong promise of achieving its business goals going forward. “Our team have years of hands on experience which gives them a thorough understanding of our customers’ operational and commercial drivers. That, combined with innovative product design, allows us to deliver direct cost and efficiency savings to clients. We are looking to 2014 with great optimism and a strong order book for sizeable subsea contracts.”

Saltire Energy Named as Ones to Watch on the Sunday Times Fast Track 100 Saltire Energy, leading supplier of drilling tools to the offshore oil & gas industry, is the only Scottish company to be featured as one of ten ‘Ones to Watch’ in this year’s Sunday Times Fast Track 100 league table,

drilling tools and pipe and bolstered our staff numbers with the addition of 10 new personnel, taking our workforce to 52, with plans to grow this further in the coming year.”

The Portlethen-based firm secured a place on the list in acknowledgment of its significant growth levels over a three year period.

In November this year, Saltire Energy, reported a 50% increase in turnover for the second year in a row, with figures rising from £21.5million in 2012 to £32.9 million in 2013. Around 60% of Saltire Energy’s business is international, focusing on the Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific, the UK and North Sea.

Now in its 17th year, the Sunday Times Virgin Fast Track 100 publishes an annual league table, including a ‘Ones to watch’ list, ranking Britain’s fastest-growing, privately-owned companies, which are predicted to experience exceptional sales figures and further growth. Mike Loggie, Chief Executive of Saltire Energy, said: “It is an honour that Saltire Energy has been recognised on such a prestigious and high profile list. We have experienced significant growth in recent years and this accolade is testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire team.

www.sosmagazine.biz

“The last 12 months has seen Saltire Energy grow significantly. We re-invested £10million back into the business, extending our suite of industry accredited

40

Mike continued: “It is highly encouraging and a great achievement to be the only Scottish company to make it onto the 2013 ‘Ones to Watch’ list. This is a very exciting period of development for us, both on a local and international level. Over the coming months we plan to expand our Aberdeen headquarters and increase our presence in Europe with the opening a base in Germany. “Securing a position on the Sunday Times Track 100 is a fantastic way for the business to end the year on a high and we look forward to building on this achievement in the future.”

The Sunday Times Fast Track 100 league table ranks 100 private British companies with the fastest-growing sales over the last three years; it is published in The Sunday Times each December. A prestigious black tie awards event at the list sponsor, Richard Branson’s Oxfordshire home, taking place each May with follow-up regional dinners taking place throughout the year. During the awards dinner, Saltire Energy will compete against the 10 companies listed in the ‘Ones to Watch’ list to be chosen as the one outstanding company for its exceptional growth and success. Saltire Energy was formed in 1986, has a team of more than 50 staff and an extensive inventory of drilling tools and pipe.

Environmental Technologies Ltd PANOLIN BIODEGRADABLE LUBRICANTS The oil and gas industries are amongst the most regulated and controlled in the world with respect to the marine environment, especially now as we are seeing an increase in offshore activity which includes all forms of renewable energy development.

Engineering

PANOLIN ATLANTIS

PANOLIN have been involved in the offshore market for about 10 years and have a range of hydraulic oils called ATLANTIS which are formulated in accordance with OSPAR compliance guidelines to meet with the very highest environmental standards. (OSPAR is the Oslo and Paris Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the North East Atlantic). The oils are registered with all of the relevant regulatory bodies involved. These bodies, CEFAS, SODM and KLIMA administer and control the use of fluids in the North Sea, Irish Sea and Norwegian Waters. Oils meeting this requirement are being considered and adopted by many operating companies before any form of offshore activity such as oil and gas exploration, wind farm construction, tidal turbines and wave power generators begins, particularly in areas of Special Scientific Interest and Marine Conservation Zones. In accordance with regulations PANOLIN biodegradable lubricants are currently being used in applications such as Remotely Operated Vehicles, Cranes, Subsea Cable laying and Mining equipment. Operators who want to use these oils can do so with confidence knowing they are registered in compliance with OSPAR and along with the Material Safety Data can assist with the risk assessments that are carried out before any such work is undertaken.

PANOLIN HLP SYNTH For many years and throughout many industries HLP SYNTH has been recognised as one of the foremost biodegradable lubricants. This fluid is extensively utilised in hydraulic applications such as Hydro Power, Rail Infrastructure Maintenance, Construction, Ports, Docks and Dredging for its high performance/long life capability and environmental properties. HLP SYNTH offers many of the world’s ECO-LABELS against its name and thus provides an alternative product with the highest environmental credentials where OSPAR compliance is not required. Both products are available as factory fill options with many Original Equipment Manufacturers which guarantees full environmental compliance right from the start.
