END OF MODULE SELF-EVALUATION NAME Bobby Jones
1. What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them? I would say that my overall academic writing has improved. Through this my research and theory has improved. I have developed a strong understanding of subjects and what is relevant and what is not. I think I have applied these developments to my essay and this has appeared in my results, even for my first draft I obtained a higher mark than the essay I wrote last year after three drafts.
2. What approaches to/methods of design production have you developed and how have they informed your design development process? My approach has been entirely derived from my essay, graphic design and sustainability. My understanding and theory has informed my practice when creating work for COP practical piece, but also my overall practice. My development has been through sustainable design and how to educate designers, without being educated on the effects and problems with sustainability, it is difficult to know how to be a more ethical designer.
3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these? My understanding on the subject and interest. With a driven mentality it has helped me produce a piece of work, which relates well to the subject matter. Knowledge and understanding has helped me throughout the module and this has helped inform on the practical. I think my essay is strong, much better than last years and this will help me next year in my dissertation.
4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these in the future? My time management has let me down when it came to making my own paper. Printing was the issue as nowhere would allow me to print onto the paper through a laser jet. I went to screen print it but the amount I would have to print and the size of the paper was an issue as well. In the future I think I will be better prepared now knowing what processes I need to do and how to address them.
5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these? 1. Time management – Plan ahead what needs to be done and this will extricate any issues in the production stage. 2. Blogging – To keep on top of blogging, to avoid missing any stages or development in my work. 3. Peer Crits – To gain feedback from my peers and this will also keep me on track. 4. Tutorial’s with Tutors – To not only gain feedback with my peers but will help me with my essay writing skills and how to improve further. 5. Proof reading – To further my essay and academic writing skills and lose out on any marks through daft mistakes.
6.How would you grade yourself on the following areas: (please indicate using an ‘x’) 5= excellent, 4 = very good, 3 = good, 2 = average, 1 = poor 1 2 3 4 5 Attendance Punctuality Motivation Commitment Quantity of work produced Quality of work produced Contribution to the group The evaluation of your work is an important part of the assessment criteria and represents a percentage of the overall grade. It is essential that you give yourself enough time to complete your written evaluation fully and with appropriate depth and level of self-reflection. If you have any questions relating to the self evaluation process speak to a member of staff as soon as possible.
