A New Chapter Since 2012 more than 200 libraries have been closed, with many more predicted to follow. The amount of visits to libraries has also dropped by 6.7 %, as well as the borrowing of books. Authorities across the UK are working hard to identify savings and reduce their spending, resulting in reduced opening hours. Cuts in funding, opening hours and numbers of libraries seriously affects the community, especially those people who don't have the internet or don't have a car to get to their nearest library.
Mission Statement New Chapter is a not-for-profit organisation, that brings together the local community and the library. We are a organisation with big ideas for improving the lives and provide opportunities for the people in the area. New Chapter’s ethics are based on solidarity and equality.
Reclamation Reclamation is the act of returning something to a better state. Which is what New Chapter do with all of their Libraries. Taking disused buildings and restores them to a new library. Seeking to develop a local building in ways that promote the area as a vibrant and exciting place to work and live.
Service New Chapter’s operates primarily as a dysfunctional library. The informal space allows local residents to use computers and access the internet free of charge. Workshops are also available which include IT courses and CV help. The meeting space for local groups to establish, run and support local community events.
