BSS Introduction to BSS Security Incident, Emergency and Crisis Response Simulation & 3D Virtual Reality Solutions
A Simulation & 3D Virtual Reality training portfolio solution that supports Procedure, Scenario and Simulation training for strategic, tactical and operational management. Every organisation and environment has unique characteristics and interests that determine the vulnerability for security risks. When there is a clear picture of realistic dilemmas, scenarios and associated risks, measures have to be agreed and implemented. The management of risks, crises and emergencies is an area in which many parties have a responsibility and where numerous laws, rules and regulations are applicable. It is a complex situation where questions need to be addressed, such as; -‐ who is involved internally and externally? -‐ how are actions coordinated? -‐ what are our common operational procedures?; -‐ are we compliant?; -‐ are staff capable and trained?
Such situations present complex issues and many challenges to organisations, which is why security professionals understand the value of scenario development, rehearsals and exercises as the best means of developing an adequate security response. Virtual training offers important benefits: personnel can train whenever and wherever suits them; avoid time-‐consuming planning and preparation of live exercises; improve operational preparedness; reduce training costs and learn important new skills in a safe environment.

Why serious gaming works?
Serious gaming provides motivation, offers varying degrees of simulation and ties experiences together through narration With a 3D Virtual Reality training centre one is capable to build competences through experience and to focus on human behaviour. Teach people to apply knowledge (‘do’) and to generate valuable learning experiences. Various theories, such as Malcolm Knowles’s, have pointed out that adults learn best when they are “self-‐directed”; when they have a desire to solve the real problems they face. In addition research over the last 20 years has shown that the need to find out what truly engages learners – how to draw them in, how to sustain their attention and how to make the learning experience more fun. And unlike more traditional training programs 3D Virtual Reality training programmes are experienced as fun!
Serious gaming works because it gives: Experience of real-‐life situations • Realistic environments. • Powerful incident visualisation. • Real-‐life conditions (stress, behaviour patterns). Converts knowledge into skills • Focus on ‘doing’ rather than ‘knowing’. • Interactive participation. • Direct feedback. Effective learning environment • Greater learning opportunities. • Observe candidates ‘in action’. • Safer than real-‐life training. • Full registration and objective measuring.

BSS consultancy services for a Simulation & 3D Virtual Reality Security Incident, Emergency and Crisis Response Centre
When there is a clear picture of realistic dilemmas, scenarios and associated risks measures have to be agreed and implemented
BSS supports organisations in developing and implementing a Simulation & 3D Virtual Reality Security, Incident, Emergency and Crisis Response Centre by: • Analysing the security and safety environment. • Working with the stakeholders and identifying the required training. • Selecting and/or designing the required 3D Virtual Reality solutions and 3DVR training environments. • Designing and implementing of simulator. • Developing state-‐of-‐the-‐art training/rehearsal scenarios. Transferring knowledge to the local training teams. Once the technical infrastructure is in place, a training programme is developed and implemented in the following stages: • Stage 1: Set-‐up of the training virtual environment and objects from the library. • Stage 2: The security environment and control objects (vehicles, people and simulated incidents) are moved around the model to assess vulnerabilities and to test for blind spots in the client’s current security presence. • Stage 3: Virtual reality security training is conducted with the client’s team to evaluate the effectiveness of their security readiness and response capabilities. • Stage 4: The security training analysis enables all possible security postures to be tested in a safe and unobtrusive way so clients can achieve an optimum security situation. The BSS 3D Virtual Reality solution supports the complete security management and crisis response cycle.

To facilitate this within organisations we have developed an integrated and innovative approach to integrity issues, one that bridges the gap between a) integrity policy and implementation, and b) analysis, prevention and operational response. Experienced BSS researchers and specialists in safety and security can be of great organisational value with their unique combination of different services in the fields of crisis management, response, business continuity, change management, and security and technology innovation.
BSS helps you to safeguard the quality and continuity of your business interests.
As well as its own team, the founders of BSS have access to a large international network of security professionals with extensive experience in vital infrastructure, listed companies, defence and homeland security. The Simulation & Serious Gaming Process
Simulation and serious games are less than perfect representations of the real world, but offer a great environment in which to learn. The activities carried out during a simulation game training session are: – Theoretical instruction: the teacher goes through relevant aspects of specific theories and participants can interact with questions and comments. – Introduction to the game: the participants are instructed on how to operate the computer and how to play the game. – Playing the game: participants have the opportunity to practice their knowledge and skills by changing different parameters of the game and reflecting on the possible consequences of these changes. Permanent contact with participants is advisable, as is keeping the training going to maintain a positive atmosphere and to ensure that the participants feel engaged. Group discussions: each participant is given the opportunity and encouraged to present and compare their results from the game with the
results of others. Teachers will continually look for new ways of enriching the discussions and to help the participants find the connection between the game results and problems in real world. The quality of this group discussion activity plays an important and relevant role in the overall training, as it will affect the ability of participants to transfer the knowledge and skills gained into the real world. The discussion phase is usually called debriefing. Debriefing is the most important part of the simulation/gaming experience. We all learn from experience, but without reflecting on this experience the learning potential may be lost. Simulation gaming needs to be seen as contrived experiences in the learning cycle, which require special attention at the stages of reflection and generalisation.
9
The Simulation & Serious Gaming Debriefing Process There are six phases of debriefing. These are presented as a flexible suggestion and not as rigid requirements: 1. How do you feel? Gives participants an opportunity to get their strong feelings about the simulation game off their chest. 2.
What happened? Makes it possible for participants to compare and contrast recollections with others and to draw some general conclusions during the next phase.
3.
What did you learn? Encourage the generation and testing of different hypotheses. Ask participants to come up with general principles based on their experiences from the game and to offer evidence to support or reject these principles.
4.
How does this relate to the real world? Encourage a discussion of the relevance of the game to the real-‐world workplaces of participants.
5.
What if…? Encourage participants to apply their insights to new contexts.
6.
What next? Participants use their insights to come up with strategies for the simulation game and for the real-‐world workplace.
