he may be gunning for Olympic gold, but Simone Biles has already beaten the odds. Considered one of gymnastics’ all-time greats, the 24-year-old — who won four gold medals in Rio in 2016 — overcame tears, fears and struggles before earning a spot on Team USA at this summer’s games in Tokyo. After she and her three siblings endured the foster care system while her mother, Shanon, battled a drug addition, Simone’s adoption at age 6 by her grandparents Ron and Nellie, “saved her life,” says a source, noting that Simone’s “talent for gymnastics was spotted early on.” But not long after she became a “global superstar” in Rio, says the source, Simone faced more pain in 2019 when her brother, Tevin Biles-Thomas, was arrested and charged with murder following a fatal shooting in Cleveland. “Watching him go through that was torturous for Simone,” shares the source. “She always believed he was innocent.” But in the end, the hardships have only made her stronger. And now, with the recently acquitted Tevin and addictionfree Shanon cheering her on, Simone is ﬁnally ready to win big all over again. As the young athlete recently said, “It’s exciting to watch.”

Falling Out? Bros no more! Jake Gyllenhaal and Ryan Reynolds used to be thick as thieves, but their friendship has soured as they’ve gotten more competitive with their careers, according to a source. After costarring in 2017’s Life, Jake, 40, and Ryan, 44, “became besties and were pretty inseparable,” says the source, noting that the duo would constantly call and text each other while filming in different cities to compare notes. “Things started cooling down once they realized they were competing for the same roles,” the source continues, adding that Ryan, who shares three kids with wife Blake Lively, 33, is also focused on family, unlike Jake, who’s still single. With a new sci-fi comedy, Free Guy, coming out in August and the Netflix movie Red Notice due this fall, Ryan, the source adds, has the clear career advantage over Jake, whose last film was 2019’s Spider-Man: Far from Home. (Earlier this year Jake voiced a character in the animated flick Spirit Untamed.) “All of their friends chalk up their falling out to show business,” laments the source. “Ryan and Jake realize that in Hollywood, there are only so many seats at the table.”

In June, the A-list actress — who’s been single since her 2016 split from Brad Pitt — was spotted leaving ex-husband Jonny Lee Miller’s NYC apartment three hours after arriving with a bottle of red wine. Less than three weeks later, the 46-year-old was photographed on her way out of Giorgio Baldi restaurant in L.A. following a dinner date with “Starboy” singer The Weeknd. Says an insider, “She’s hitting the dating scene with a vengeance.” It’s a big change for Angelina, who’s spent the majority of the past almost ﬁve years lying low and focusing on the children she shares with Brad (Maddox, 19, Pax, 17, Zahara, 16, Shiloh, 15, and 13-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox). “The kids are used to having Angie around all the time, so for her to be going out at night all of a sudden hasn’t been an easy adjustment,” the insider tells OK! Especially for daughter Shiloh. “Shiloh is very sensitive, and she fears her mom is partying too hard,” says the insider. “It’s starting to feel like Angie is the teenager and Shiloh is the parent, and it’s troubling for her.” The insider says Angelina is

going to extremes. “Shiloh doesn’t have a problem with her mom getting out and enjoying herself, but Angie’s transformation has been really dramatic. Directions For Skewers • 1 cup water • 1/4 cup salt • 8 chicken wing ﬂaps (with two bones inside) • 8 bamboo skewers • 1/2 cup yakitori sauce • Salt and pepper, to taste • Scallions, for garnish

To Make Sauce:

1. In a medium-size pan, heat the oil. Add the shallots, ginger and garlic and char till brown. 2. Add the sake and cook until alcohol is reduced. 3. Add the remaining ingredients and simmer for 5 minutes. Strain and set aside. To Make Skewers:

1. Add water and salt to a medium-size bowl. Add chicken, making sure it is covered. Place in fridge and allow to brine for 4–24 hours.

2. Place one wing on two bamboo skewers and add another wing to the two skewers. Repeat procedure with all wings. 3. Heat grill to medium-high. Season chicken with salt and pepper and spray grill with non-stick spray. Grill the skewer for approximately 12 minutes (5–6 min on each side) until lightly charred, making sure to brush or spray the wings with the yakitori sauce as they are grilling and turning them often. 4. Garnish each skewer with chopped scallion and serve.
