Proposal As a group we thought that in order for the project to become worthwhile we needed to base it on what we knew were the shifts of the construction industry. The construction industry of the modern world and potentially the near future has heavily shifted to back sustainable designs. Because of this we agreed as a team that we would ensure this was the main objective within our scheme. The phrase sustainability can be applied to many areas of interest, as an architecture student I instantly started to converse about sustainability within architecture. Through long stints of open discussion we had heard the views of everyone and the meaning of sustainability within each discipline, this allowed us to broaden the definition of the word sustainability and integrate all of its meanings into the project. The project was named “High Five as it dealt with the typical five a day concept but on a greater scale. The aim of the project was to ensure that Leeds became a flagship city for future sustainable cities. To do this we imposed three main objectives that would ensure the project met our initial objective of sustainability. The first was to develop many areas of green space across the city and of course site. The second was to include an education centre that would provide a chance for the local community to get involved with sustainability; this would be tailored towards the growing of your own food and small local projects of this sort. The last aim was that we would adapt Leeds’ transport network to ensure all travel around the city centre was sustainable, this network would also allow the transportation of produce taken from site.
Critical Analysis The project as a whole allowed many ideas from many disciplines to be heard and because of this the project in my eyes ran smoother than other groups. The interaction of other disciplines and age groups allowed tasks to be split fairly and correctly as certain jobs were given to people that were capable of completing them to a high standard e.g. The Landscape Architecture and Architecture students took on the role of visuals and formatting as we as a group have been doing this for 3 years. This allowed the group to work well together, obviously disregarding the initial power struggles by some individuals. I believe that the interdisciplinary as a whole allowed me to realise that it is not just the responsibility of an architect to produce a scheme but the involvement of all practices that enable a great design to be crafted.
“Inter-Professional Studies Workshop: A Future for the Tetley Brewery Site Working in inter-professional student year 3 groups of architects, landscape architects, project managers and urban planners you must produce a proposal for the redevelopment of the Tetley/Carlsberg Brewery site in South Central Leeds. Your inter-professional group will have three days to work on a creative vision for the area, the programme for which includes a site visit, studio based tutorials and short final presentations. All proposals will be presented at 2.30pm on Wednesday 29th January 2014. “
Site The site is situated in the south of Leeds city centre. This is around a quarter of a kilometre south of Leeds’ main shopping road, Briggate and half a kilometre south of Leeds train station. The site holds 25 acres of undeveloped brownfield land, this gives us as a group the opportunity to exploit this and create a scheme that is plausible.

The Presentation Due to illnesses on the day of the presentation, the people that attended, which included me had to fill in for the people that didn’t attend. This responsibility, although being a last minute responsibility was absorbed by us all and the presentation was given with just as must attention to detail as originally planned. For this I am proud of what we delivered as a project and believe that we were successful in the ideas that we presented.
