This accelerated programme allows you to gain the knowledge and skills of an entry-level physiotherapist in just two years, allowing you to enter this dynamic, rewarding and challenging profession. You will develop skills and knowledge to: assess and interpret the physical, psychosocial and health improvement needs of the patient using a problemsolving approach; plan, implement and evaluate a physiotherapeutic programme which meets the specific holistic needs of the patient; safely and effectively apply and modify a range of physiotherapy skills in response to the holistic needs of the patient; and apply and critically evaluate the role of health improvement and exercise prescription in your patient interactions.

P O S T G R A D U A T E S T U D Y A T R G U • 38

You will be taught via a mixture of enquiry-based learning, practical workshops, projects and simulation where you will undertake patient assessments and work within rehabilitation and intensive care scenarios. The new public health approach has different characteristics from the old public health model and now includes prevention and promotion whilst giving recognition of the social determinants of health. This course will allow you to develop the skills required to meet existing and emerging challenges locally, nationally and internationally.

Diagnostic Image Reporting PgCert COURSE OVERVIEW

COURSE CONTENT

Radiographer Reporting is undoubtedly one of the most rewarding career progression roles to have developed for Diagnostic Radiographers in recent years. It not only offers exciting and challenging professional development opportunities to the individual but evidence based quality and economic benefits to the employer.

Module one

Following the Spending Review of 2010, the Department of Health in England and Wales stressed the need to encourage the NHS to train radiographers to report in line with best practice. Within Scotland, the importance of developing a robust Radiographer Reporting resource is reinforced in the 2012 AHP National Delivery Plan. Reporting by radiographers is not an option for the future, it is a requirement.

The module is delivered by a series of lectures, webinars, direct and online tutorials.

Radiographer Reporting comprises four modules which can be studied as stand alone Continuing Professional Development (CPD) modules or, if all successfully completed, for the award of Postgraduate Certificate (PgCert). These modules are appropriate for Diagnostic Radiographers who wish to progress into a reporting role or for other health professionals who wish to develop their image reviewing skills for example clinical specialist Physiotherapists. The course may be completed over a one year period (all four modules) or over two years (modules one and two in year one followed by modules three and four in year two).

P O S T G R A D U A T E S T U D Y A T R G U • 52

Principles of Diagnostic Image Reporting aims to provide you with the knowledge and understanding necessary to underpin the Reporting Radiographer role including pattern recognition, visual perception, sensitivity and specificity, clinical reasoning and decision making.

Module two Radiographic Appearances of Musculoskeletal Pathophysiology and Trauma helps you to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to evaluate the radiological appearances and the indicative signs of musculoskeletal and traumatic injury. The module is delivered by a series of lectures, webinars, direct and online tutorials and interactive image viewing workshops. Modules three and four Diagnostic Image Reporting of the Appendicular and Axial Skeleton are work-based clinical modules, where you will learn the applied clinical skills of Radiographer Reporting within your own clinical workplace. These modules are delivered by online study combined with work based clinical practice under the supervision of a clinical mentor within your own clinical setting.

HOW YOU WILL LEARN This carefully designed suite of modules combines academic theory with work-based clinical practice. Minimal attendance on campus blended seamlessly with online study through our virtual learning environment, Campus Moodle, makes this an ideal study solution for busy health professionals. Students may choose to study all four Radiographer Reporting modules exiting at Postgraduate Certificate level or alternatively study just the academic theory modules (Modules 1 and 2) for CPD purposes. CAREER OPPORTUNITIES Successful completion of the PgCert can enable diagnostic radiographers to progress into the extended scope role of Reporting

Radiographer. For other allied health professions for example Physiotherapists it may also enhance the opportunities for progressing into Extended Practitioner roles such as Musculoskeletal Advanced Scope Physiotherapist. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Applicants for these modules will normally be a Diagnostic Radiographer or a related healthcare professional working in a relevant diagnostic imaging setting. Applicants should be educated to Honours degree level (or equivalent) and have clinical experience of working with diagnostic images. Applicants who intend to study the work based modules must have access to the relevant clinical services and agreed clinical mentorship.
