“My experience here has been great! I got a wonderful grasp of university life by interacting with a wide range of individuals from various countries. My initial fears were linked to the adjustment phase I would have to go through as an international student but I was impressed with the quality and wide array of services available. RGU rocks! I would highly recommend every international student contemplating to study abroad to consider this university.”

“My experience as an International Business Management student at RGU has had a key role in helping me to shape a holistic view of the contemporary global business environment. The teaching approach is great and the School really aims to create a new batch of professionals through a hands on approach. Indeed, the time I have spent here has been so pleasant, I have decided to stay at RGU and do a Masters in International Business.”

Nothing beats real experience. It brings your studies to life, tests your understanding of topics and helps you get an idea of what you might like to do after graduating. Plus it’s a great thing to have on your CV! If you enter any of the courses within our Management Programme in year 1 or 2, you can undertake a 48-week, paid placement during your third year.

How do I find my placement? Our Placement Office arranges opportunities with a wide range of employers and then advertises these positions using the University’s internal IT system. You choose which placement opportunities to apply for, and employers decide who to interview and subsequently employ. Our placements are very popular, and the competitive nature of securing one mirrors the real world – with the key difference being that our Placement Office will support, coach and advise you every step of the way.

How will I know how I’m doing on placement? The employer will assess you, and you’ll be supported by an academic member of staff. They make several visits to monitor your progress throughout the year.

Can it help beyond my degree? Absolutely. Also, some students are offered the option to return to their placement employer after graduation. 28

“I completed my placement at FirstGroup as HR Assistant supporting the CSR department with projects. The experience really boosted my confidence and if I had the chance to repeat the year again I would not change anything. The best thing about my placement was that every day was different. I worked on a number of projects, so I never got bored. Everything was so exciting! I also had an opportunity to travel around the UK, which was great. I am pleased to say that FirstGroup won the Best Student Placement Award last year at the Northern Star Business Awards.”

ABROAD Y STUD

Going abroad to study or work could be one of the most exciting and rewarding aspects of your course. The experience, new friends, a different country, climate, culture and language: these, and many other factors, make it an unforgettable time – wherever you go! And where you go will depend on the course you study. Each participating course has its own partner institutions in different countries. Most of the courses have more than one partner institution, so you can choose which institution or country is most suitable for you. So if we say that you might need a phrase book and sunglasses when you come to Aberdeen, we are being serious!

Scotland at its best. Aye, that’s right! Aberdeen is pretty unique in the UK with its cosmopolitan culture, rich heritage and fantastic scenery. It’s got everything you’d expect from a major city – pubs, clubs, restaurants, cinemas, theatres and art galleries – but there’s lots more than that! Like the miles of beach boulevard – loved by skaters and surfers – and the wild mountains right on the doorstep: Aberdeen is a great location for skiing and snowboarding with dry ski slopes nearby the campus and during the winter Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray takes on a whole new lease of life with many challenging ski runs, plus some of the best hillwalking in Scotland and loads of great places for canoeing, kayaking and sailing!

How much work is there? As a full-time student, you can expect to devote around 35 hours a week to study.
