WELCOME

SPRY MARITIMES’ NEW TIMING A SIGN OF THE TIMES.

4

The move to early December for the Spry Maritimes Show is no ill-conceived impulsive act. Look at the industry at large and it quickly becomes evident that December is the new sweet spot for when the Show should be. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t have a conversation with someone in the industry, probably more so with retailers than vendors, that I hear grumblings about the booking season deadlines. It’s easy to understand, no more so than this year as I have heard more and more vendors have moved their “booking” deadline up to January 11th. Yes; some are even December 15th and many are still the end of January and into February and beyond but more and more vendors are demanding earlier and earlier order commitments from retailers and, as a result, the timing of the show must go earlier. It’s particularly challenging for everyone in the Fall/Winter booking season because of the critically important Holiday sales’ season, which of course is now smack-bang in the middle of the booking period. Until this changes, we must time the Show to be most relevant to the task at hand for both Vendor Reps and retail buyers. The upside to all of this is the new timing of the show has opened opportunities for more brands to participate in the show providing even more value to buyers that attend as they can accomplish more in their visit. There are retailers that have told me that they get 75%+ of their season buying done in the three days of Spry Maritimes. Imagine that! - compared to the weeks and weeks that it has typically taken in the past waiting for Reps get sampled and come by the store or getting through crazy travel schedules to showrooms scattered all over the country and copious amounts of time away from the store to see lines. The Spry Maritimes Winter Market Show is a great opportunity to buy awesome brands for your store. I invite you to attend and I am super-confident the trip will make a healthy contribution to the task of buying strategically and intelligently for your store for next fall/Winter. The Spry Shows are a relaxed, productive environment to meet with local and out of town Reps and to review the full sample set collections that will be at the show. It will be a fantastic opportunity to research products for your store for next season that can deliver great sales and great margin for you. Casino New Brunswick is a great facility with luxurious hotel rooms, the show in the Convention Centre and the casino all under one roof. An interesting side-benefit the show offers and which you may not have thought about is, the opportunity to meet and chat with other progressive, dynamic, independent (and importantly non-competing) retailers to discuss and share great ideas about creating great customer experiences in your stores. Spry Maritimes is that opportunity. Whether you are a clothing store, shoe store, gift store or sporting goods and Outdoor specialty store, there are brands at the show that will peak your interest for sure. We hope you can make it. I look forward to seeing you and to chatting with you in Moncton at the show. Robert Lauder Spry Maritimes Show promoter.

Primaloft® fleece is made of 85% recycled fibres, sourced from plastic bottles. BUFF® long-term partnership with Primaloft® began with the development of the innovative ThermoNet® product family and continues as BUFF® fulfills the commitment to create the most responsible products possible. We are proud to offer industry-leading insulation fabrics applied to a wide range of our Polar and Knitted products for the Fall/Winter 2019/20 collection. Eastin Boot This high-quality construction starts with high-quality materials. The Eastin boot is made from premium American hide leather processed in tanneries certified by the Leather Working Group (LWG), which is the gold standard for responsible leather. The closed-loop tanning process reduces water and chemical use and eliminates wastewater pollution. Other sustainable technologies that KEEN has integrated into this style include: a PFC-free durable water repellent that uses alternative chemistries that are safe for human health and the environment, and Cleansport NXT eco odor control, which uses probiotic technology to effectively eliminate odor without heavy metals, perfumes, volatile organic compounds, and hazardous chemicals.
