HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!
It’s hard to believe it’s been 15 years since the hard core original group of retailers and Sales reps braved the horse barn in Barrie in early August to get together to book orders for the Spring of 2005! Many remember the first show fondly as the rookies we were back then attempted to create the right scenario and a suitable environment for the Show. Many haven’t missed a show since then – and that’s both a fact and a testament to the commitment many have made to making the shows successful, productive and fun.
Spring – What Spring?
(Interestingly; I actually copied this paragraph from last year’s Guide so it appears Mother Nature has done it to us again!) The late start to Spring has again thrown a curve ball at the business. In fact; it appears we have gone straight into Summer. It just goes to show that we need to be ready for whatever nature throws at us and to be able to adapt to changing market demand at any given time.
Full House
The Embassy Grand is again full for the Summer Market. It makes for a huge opportunity to buy for your store. Check out the New Brands @ Spry page of the web-site and the special section in this Guide. There are upwards of 40 new brands joining the show for the Summer Market that will complement all of the innovation of all of the collections of the dynamic brands that participate in Spry each season. Make sure you walk the entire floor of the Show. There is new everywhere in the building for your store!
Must-Do
The Spry Show truly is a must-do for any store owner that is looking for unique, value-added products designed for the demands of the active, outdoor lifestyle demographic. Whether its water-sports, yoga, trail-running, camping, hiking or lifestyle brands, the show is a fantastic representation of what you can buy for your store for Spring/Summer ’20.
Buy Early – Get it done and over with
Spry is a fantastic opportunity to research great new products for your customers and to get a ton of buying done for the store before the height of summer and important booking deadlines in a super-productive and relaxed environment. It’s easy to say to yourself; “I’m too busy to get away from the store but you owe it to yourself, your staff and the general ongoing success of the store to get away and see what’s new and what’s hot for the next season. You can view the full list of brands at the show here. And don’t miss the What’s New What’s Hot section toward the back of this Guide; a selection of interesting new products sent to us by some of the exhibitors to help promote the show. We encourage you to spend time at the show. Plan to come for at least a couple of days and take your time to make sure you don’t miss the next big winners coming to market. I guarantee you’ll be glad you did. I look forward to seeing you and to chatting with you at the show. I really enjoy hearing how your store is doing and what things are working well for you. Robert Lauder Show manager.

Gumbies
WORLD WIDE WALKABOUT - THE QUEST FOR THE PERFECT FLIP-FLOP When Gumbies founder Michel Maurer discovered the Aboriginal rite of passage - “Walkabout” – at the age of 16 when he and his family received their emigration visa for Australia. He didn’t realize how much this would influence his own highly original take on life and his future career. Freedom and adventure were in his DNA, never wanting to be constrained by four walls and always staring out of the window, dreaming up his next quest or things to make out of discarded bits and pieces in his Dad’s garage. Many escape attempts were made to avoid conformance to what or anything that got in the way of what he considered ‘real living’ Now was the time for Michel to

channel his creativity. The brand would reflect his passion for simplicity, necessity and most importantly – freedom. At the same utilizing natural materials, based on a strong ethical foundation, but with a visible point of difference. The quest for the perfect flip-flop had begun. The ‘Islander’ flip flop also known as the 1000-miler was conceived. Prototypes were made using old tires but realizing that car tires were too crude and not commercially viable, he set about exploring the use of recycled rubber instead. Bonding it with jute for strength and sandwiching an Eva midsole for comfort, topping it with canvas for a more natural touch to the skin. Finishing off with vibrant, but contemporary colours, each one tells a story – a blank canvas to express his beliefs and unique view of the world. Gumbies are now enjoyed globally, celebrating the outdoors, freedom, fun and functionality. Michel believes life is too short for complication. Keep it simple. Ride a wave, climb a mountain, wear Gumbies. Spry Booth #1903

Red Paddle Co has brought a game changer to the SUP space with the Compact 9’6”, a full-sized SUP that folds down to half the size of a regular inflatable paddle board while not compromising on paddling performance. The smaller packed size of the Compact 9’6”gives paddlers the convenience of being able to easily carry it around town, jump onto public transport or store in the trunk of your car, with space to spare. The ultra -compact nature of the package also allows for storage within small cars, smaller apartments onboard boats and in your van. PACT Technology ™ is a material with a new weaving process which creates an extra-high-tensile thread matrix at the core of the board that is combined with a super-strong but malleable outer layer. This means the Compact board is as stiff and durable when inflated but can be folded down into a bag half the size of standard inflatable boards. The Compact board comes as part of a full package including a newly designed backpack, revolutionary 5-piece paddle, Titan pump, leash and removable fins. Spry Booth #2200, 2300, 2301, 2302

We responded, “why not?” Now more than ever, Nature Needs Heroes. REAL PEOPLE. REAL HEROES™. Those taking action—big

and small—to make lasting change. This spring, we follow these heroes, supporting them as they plant urban gardens, promote solar energy, influence others through environmental activism and do what they do to create real change. We equip them with products that are innovative, stylish and focused on minimizing our impact on the environment. Around the world, the use of plastic water bottles is on the rise. Billions of them are collected from landfills, recycled and turned into durable ReBOTL™ material that we use to make products. Similarly, we take waste rubber left over from manufacturing and turn it into recycled rubber soles that deliver traction, durability and eco-consciousness. We invite you to become a hero for nature with us by simply choosing recycled and durable Timberland® products. This spring, we can all be heroes. Spry Booth #1302, 1402, 1502
