Discover Remarkable Rwanda What to do if you have only 24 hours Kigali Marriott Hotel is in the city center allowing guests to easily get around the city discovering Rwanda’s capital. Take a walk for some Rwandaful mementos to take back home, with art shops located all around the city that sell and display hand-crafted decorations ranging from wood carvings, woven baskets and vibrant traditional wear. Through organized city center tours, you can visit one of the oldest neighborhoods in Kigali: Nyamirambo, renowned for its vibrant life and culture. The Kandt House Museum of Natural History is a must-see. Named after a German scientist and resident of Rwanda, the museum exhibits a number of natural wonders and pieces that establish the relationship between nature and the history of this African region. Finally, the Genocide Memorial cannot be missed, documenting the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi, and the transformation of Rwanda.

What to do if you have more time Rwanda’s green, mountainous landscape is sight to behold. The celebrated Volcanoes National Park is home to the awe-inspiring mountain gorillas and golden monkeys. Nyungwe Forest comes next on the list, home to the famous Canopy Walk Bridge. The bridge is 50 meters from the ground, allowing you to take in the forest’s breathtaking views. While on the bridge, take a moment to close your eyes and listen to the sounds of chimpanzees, chanting monkeys, and magnificent birds who call Nyungwe home. Journey to Lake Kivu which lies between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. With its clear water, spectacular views, and calm tides, it is must-visit for tourists. Be sure to grab a plate of a nutritious tiny fish called “sambaza.” (Tip: try them fried!) Akagera National Park offers the Big Five experience as well as other impressive wildlife, including zebras, hippos, and crocodiles. Akagera’s diverse habitats, picturesque landscapes, and rich wildlife make it well worth a visit.
