WOODEN WALKING EXOTIC BIRD TOY

Introduction This is a very simple and easy to make toy, composed of only three main parts plus a short length of quarter inch dowel. Yet, if carefully made, it is capable of very rewarding performance. Making Parts Included are the scanned images of the disassembled EXOTIC BIRD. Print and use these images as patterns to make BODY and WINGS. Body is one inch thick. Wings are half inch thick. Cut them on a jigsaw or band saw, carefully following the contour line. Smooth with sandpaper and paint and decorate to suit your taste.

Assembly Pass dowel through hole in BODY. Glue one WING at each dowel end. Before glue sets, make sure that wings are perfectly aligned and pivot freely without excessive side play. Ramp The Exotic Bird “walks” on an incline of about 3 degrees. Walking ramp is a 6 x 24 inch piece of half inch plywood, one end raised with a 1-1/4 inch thick piece of wood (probably you will have to experiment a little with the slope for best “walking”). Walking Place the bird at the top end of the ramp, push down the tail gently and let go.
