ily at the Churchtown annual Summer Festival. There was live music, a Leinster Rugby Tag competition, bouncy castles and slides, a real fire engine for children to explore and food and refreshments were available throughout the day from a variety of foods stalls. The highlight was the arrival of the Heineken Cup which fans, like Dara Kennedy, Evan Wells and Ruairi Kennedy, queued up to hold and have their pictures taken with. Calls made to publish councillors’ expenses Transparency could avoid many ‘myths’
Q DAWN LOVE
CALLS have been made for the annual publication of councillors’ expenses in Dun Laoghaire Rathdown to create greater transparency and to avoid the many “myths” about what local elected representatives receive from the public purse. That’s according to Fine Gael
Cllr Neale Richmond who said: “People should know; this is the peoples’ money. I am elected by the people to do a job and they should know exactly what I am being paid, how I am being paid, when I am being paid.” The Gazette can reveal the total amount paid to various councillors in Dun Laoghaire Rathdown varied between €44,578.97 and
€9,275.69 last year. Independent Cllr Victor Boyhan said he fully supported Richmond’s call, saying: “I have absolutely no objection to publishing fully details of my pay and allowances. If Cllr Richmond brings a formal proposal to council, he can be assured of my full support.” See Full Story on Page 5 and Details on Page 6
