Shatter ‘has power to reverse Stepaside decision’ BAIRBRE NI BHRAONAIN
MINISTER for Justice Alan Shatter has been criticised by politicians for not responding to residents’ calls to halt the closure of Stepaside Garda Station, due to close on March 14. Local campaigners claim that Minister Shatter has the power to reverse the decision to close the station, which was recommended by Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan.
Independent TD Shane Ross said: “The minister is responsible for all 100 closures, and should judge each on its individual merits. If a decision is wrong, it’s wrong. The closure doesn’t save any money.” The minister’s department said the closure “will not affect the procedure for the Garda response to emergency calls in the Dublin Metropolitan Region”. On the ball: Mascots lead on Leinster ahead of RDS match MATCHDAY mascots Anna Court-
ney (from Castleknock), Louis Grennell (Portobello) and Gilnagh O’Dowd (Stillorgan) were on the ball when they met Leinster captain Leo Cullen at the Celtic League 2012/13 Round 16 match
recently, which saw Leinster take on Scarlets at the RDS. The football-loving youngsters cheered as loud as any of the grown-ups for the match, with Cullen encouraging the kids to keep doing their best on the pitch.
