Anger as Minister can’t meet council SDCC’s ‘funding Q PAUL HOSFORD
disparity’ issue left unresolved
THE Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, Phil Hogan, has angered local councillors by telling South Dublin County Council (SDCC) that he is unable to meet with council officials to discuss the dis-
parity between funding for South Dublin and other local authorities. Last December, The Gazette revealed that SDCC continues to receive less Government funding than Fingal, despite having a similar population. However, in a letter sent to the local authority recently,
the Minister’s office said that “due to the Minister’s heavy schedule of engagements, he is not in a position to meet with the council at the moment”. The response angered Labour’s Eamon Tuffy, who said that the disparity continued to hamper the council. Full Story on Page 4
