Staff sit-in after shock closure I PAUL HOSFORD
STAFF at the GAME store in Liffey Valley began a sit-in this week. The staff members took the action after the retailer closed all of its stores in the Republic of Ireland, with the loss of 121 jobs. Spokesman James Daly, of the Mahon Point store in Cork, said the notice period was too short, and the redundancy arrangements inadequate.
“We’re still seeking a meeting with the company, but, as of 3pm today [Tuesday], we haven’t heard anything. “We were told [on Monday] that the stores were to shut the doors and we would be paid until the end of the week – and that was it; our contracts would end over the weekend. “We were also told to go to the Government and seek our statutory redundancy,” he said.
