MARTIN Walsh, from Thomastown Paddlers, Co Kilkenny, took a moment to discuss his weir crossing with the watching crowd as he took part in this year’s Liffey Descent. As always, the annual event was a great success, with the banks of the Liffey lined with spectators and photographers by the weir, all keen to see the descent’s participants brave the fast-moving waters as they took part in the 28.2km run, all the way from the K Club above Straffan Weir, in Co Kildare, through to Trinity Rowing Club.

HIROMI MOONEY
A NEW multimillion euro primary care development is planned for Lucan and is hoped to open in the next 18 months, according to local Fine Gael deputy Derek Keating. Speaking exclusively to The
Gazette, Deputy Keating, who is a member of the Dail committee on health, said that he has been meeting with health officials and interested health professionals over the past 12 months in order to secure the primary care health facility for Lucan. He said: “I believe the need
is there, I believe the meetings that I’ve had have proven to be very, very successful, and I’m happy now that we’ll be able to move to a further stage in the process that will involve planning and development of the service.” Full Story on Page 3
