Council eye fire service costs natalie burke
Fingal County Council is looking at the possibility of neighbouring county councils providing an alternative fire service in an effort to reduce the high cost it says it currently incurs by using the Dublin Fire Brigade. At a recent council meeting, the council confirmed that requests have been made to respective county managers in Louth and Meath to consider

the possibility of providing the fire service for Fingal. According to the council, the cost of the firefighting service provided has been “a cause of concern” for “some time”. The costs of the fire services is over 8% of Fingal’s budgeted expenditure, and according to the county manager David O’Connor “all realistic options must be considered to reduce costs”.
