Metro North ‘needed to bring in jobs’ Q MIMI MURRAY
TRANSPORT Minister Leo Varadkar must ensure that Metro North is constructed in order to create sustainable employment in Dublin and to contribute much-needed funds to the Exchequer. That’s according to Fine Gael Councillor Anne Devitt, who said the multimillion euro light rail system will generate 4,600 construction jobs, 2,000 add-on jobs and a
further 25,000 jobs in north Dublin when completed. The figures are based on research carried out by cross-party public representatives, community groups and businesses in north Dublin, said Devitt. Devitt said that when you matched the figures with a “€2 billion foreign direct investment from the successful bidders”, it made “no sense to stop the construction of the Metro North at this stage”. Shark tale: Local boy plays a Storm-er in name competition MARINE biologist Kealan Doyle was
thrilled with the new name, Storm, for a new baby banded cat shark which was suggested by seven-yearold Swords native, Sean Grehan who won the children’s competi-
tion in Sharkey’s Cuts for Kids hair salon recently to guess the birth date of the shark. Sean won not only his very own aquarium, but also the chance to name the shark. Full Story on Page 3
