Kennedy anger at move to defer Metro Q MIMI MURRAY
FINE Gael has been accused of breaking pre-election promises following its decision to postpone the multimillion light rail system Metro North. Speaking to the Gazette, former Fianna Fail TD Michael Kennedy, condemned the coalition for its decision to mothball the project, saying he had
secured a “commitment of €28m for the enabling works in the budget of 2011 bearing in mind that €200m has been spent to date”. But, last week, Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar, who, in a letter written prior to the February General Election had criticised the Labour Party leader’s stance on the major infrastructural project, was forced to defer the project.
