Council action over graves ‘shameful’ TD hits out over letter relating to outstanding fees

FINGAL County Council’s action in writing to bereaved relatives about money outstanding for the opening of graves, has been described as “shameful” by Labour TD, Brendan Ryan, this week. “The scandal here is that
the council is aware that the fee has been paid by the bereaved to the undertakers and that it is in fact the individual undertakers who have not passed on the fee to the council,” he told the Gazette. Responding to Deputy Ryan’s comment’s, a spokes-
person for FCC said they were concerned that the families of the deceased may not be aware that the undertaker had not paid the outstanding fees and, for that reason, decided to alert these families about the current situation. Full Story on Page 8
