Vandals create havoc at allotment  Natalie Burke

Gardai are appealing for witnesses after vandals left a trail of destruction at a Dublin North allotment site. Locks on over 20 sheds belonging to members of the Swords and Malahide communities were broken and sites disrupted after a group of vandals targeted the Malahide allotments on the Swords Road on two occasions in recent weeks.

The damage is the first act of vandalism to take place at the site, which was set up as a charity project by the Epilepsy Care Foundation. One of the charity’s founding members, Brian Geraghty, said he was “really disappointed” to learn of the incident. “It’s a community project and one that is quite successful but it will not affect the ongoing efforts of the charity,” he said. Over 400 people attended the Dublin Kerry Association’s 61st Oiche Chiarrai in the Clyde Court Hotel in

Ballsbridge, at which businessman Luke Moriarty was honoured. He was praised by the selection committee for his approach to business, based on promoting Irish suppliers and contractors, developing staff and mentoring careers, and playing a significant hands-on role in communities.
