Palmerstown relief as 305 homes rejected Locals feared for village’s character PADRAIG CONLON

A CONTROVERSIAL development which threatened to massively increase the population of Palmerstown will not go ahead. Many local residents feared the village’s character and traditional setting would be
destroyed forever if 305 apartments were built in Kennelsfort Road. There was relief in the community when An Bord Pleanala (APB) recognised these fears and refused a Kildare-based construction company planning permission. Whether the company now plans to proceed with a different project on the
site remains to be seen. The decision of APB has been welcomed by many local politicians who were fiercely opposed to the planned development. The “monolithic” appearance of the apartments and concerns over traffic generated by the development were among the many reasons why permission was denied. FULL STORY ON PAGE 2
Tallaght could get an ‘urban quarter’
TALLAGHT could be set for further regeneration as a planning application has been lodged for a ‘new urban quarter’. Lodged just before Christmas using fast-track legislation, the ambitious plans would see the addition of 438 apartments and 403 bedspace student accommodation units at the junction of Belgard Road and Belgard Square North in the latest growth spurt for the bustling south Dublin hub. As the first of a planned two-phase development called “Belgard Gardens”. the development could create new streets, a civic plaza and park.
