Grantham – A Community in Transition Opportunities •New housing for those impacted •New infrastructure & investment •Open space - parklands • Building resilience • Staying together • Image of township – physical streetscaping •Positive aspirations – psychological and generational impacts (+ve) •Council in a space it had not been in beforehand

Challenges • emotional & sentimental attachments to old township •Managing the reactions – those that stay and those that move (tensions) •Trying to bring the whole community along the journey •(third that werent impacted physically and not eligible for land swap) •Don’t feel part of the process. •Government (process) vs external agency (different process) •Division in community (pre-existing) •Welfare dependent (freebies and hand outs) – engendering responsibility -Management of funds -Split community •Trauma ongoing – different responses
