Where is City of Palmerston?


City of Palmerston ď‚— Celebrated the 30 anniversary of its

first landowner settling on his block.

ď‚— Grown from being a small, rural

development and bedsit for Darwin into a regional centre.


Palmerston Growth  Greater Darwin Region has a

   

population of just over 100,000 people Palmerston is the fastest growing town in NT Palmerston currently has a population of approximately 32,000 people. Growth to between 36,600 and 42,000 people by 2021 Palmerston population is expected to increase by a further 6,000 people in the next 4 years. Young population, but it is aging.

prosperity  Major growth in housing developments  Council investing in developing its CBD into significant economic driver for the region  Increasing the amenity and attracting a vibrant population.


Some History Growth within the existing City Centre has generally been based on government services, need for parking and the development of the Palmerston Shopping Centre.

Planning Responsibilities - NT  NT Department of Lands and Planning regulates development

applications and rezonings  Council can control: driveway crossovers/access, waste collection, stormwater drainage  Council can offer comment but has no power to approve or refuse a development application  Council has representatives on the Development Consent Authority, but the members are not supposed to represent Council’s view
