PROCESS a perfect circle
PROCESS
a perfect circle A systematic and methodic approach is very important to me. This gives a golden thread to all of my projects and helps me to think out of the box. Each step and every phase in this process is important. Nevertheless it is a dynamic process in which you are looking back and forth from time to time. Problem - Recognizing a problem or getting an assignment Research - Getting in touch with the topic Conception - Analysing results of the research and defining an aim Draft - Determination of concepts and thoughts Prototyping - Realising drafts and solving problems
Presentation - Presenting results the right way
Studying and understanding of problems and systems. Creating concepts trough experiences and knowledge, which then lead to appropriate solutions. Checking functions with models and presenting products or processes confidently and appropriate in the end of the project.

PROFESSION AND RESPONSIBILITY
study - economy - social behavior - foundations - art
Profession and vocation, taking responsibility The following categories show the motivation that can be found in my projects. „ Design is everything we do. Everyday“ and Good design is invisible.“ ... „ ...are good quotes, that describe my design thinking.
study By taking a closer look at structures in terms of production, materials, and human behavior in daily life, recycling can be recognized and improved. Projects begin with the study of one`s surroundings.
Social behavior
To give people in disadvantaged conditions a better life through products and systems. Making alternatives more attractive. Projects addressing aspects of social behavior.
Foundations
By taking a closer look at physical and mechanic proces ses and laws you are able to look at details that can be used in different application fields. Keeping problems abstract is a great conduit for free and unconfined work. Projects based on foundations.
economy Because of the limited condition of our natural ressources it is really important to me that commodities are used appropriately and with discretion. I do not support society exhausting those resources. While developing new products it is essential for me to consider the theory of „cradle-to-cradle“ Projects with ecological benefits.
Art
Projects with an artistic approach.

HEDGEHOG IDEA
a method for inviting new conversations How has the internet changed our social behaviour? We have become a society that seems to have forgotten how to have personal interactions with strangers. hedgehog idea
The hedgehog idea is a method for opening new personal conversations, especially with strangers. Different-coloured coffee sleeves should break the ice between strangers and help to start new conversations. A coffeehouse patron can decide if they would like to invite conversation or not. The green one means “Talk to me“ and the red one means “talk to me.“ Double-sided printing enables switching the inside out, so one can change their mind in a spontaneous fashion. The logo and the name is inspired by the hedgehog which also has distinct ways of communicating a mood of openness versus feeling closed-off. We want to transition to a talkative, interactive society; welcoming and open. Get offline and rediscover face-to-face interaction in real life.

OPEN BRIDGE
one man`s trash, another man`s treasure This project is about behavior change and process design for a specific area of our social- and the ecological environment. We want to keep relationships with resources and products in mind. Open Bridge is a system of furniture which gives residents and businesses the chance to offer used goods, food or bottles for free before they go into trash bins as waste. Our inspiration for this project stemmed from observing the many binners around the city of Vancouver, who retrieve discarded objects for their own use or for the purposes of resale. In this day and age of excess consumption and consumer waste, we like this movement and want to support it in a collaborativefashion with the binning community. The Open Bridge project includes the prototype shelving product itself, which should be built with easily-accessible materials and tools, such as salvaged wood pallets and rope. A campaign — including a magazine, tutorial videos, and advertisements — explains the system and the benefits of supporting Open Bridge. These campaign materials would also empower the binning community with basic design and construction skills for the purpose of innovation and life improvement. HEBIX
the mobile lifting aid
After having done intensive research and interviews on the topic, we decided that we wanted to tackle the problem of falling in home care. A debriefing with the target group proved to be fruitful. With the mobile lifting aid you can raise people that have fallen over, who would otherwise require outside assistance, in order to get back on their feet. Hebix is intended for home care, due to its light weight and compressibility. Specially shaped edges enable the patient to be raised from a supine into a seated position. The aim was to create an aid for nursing staff in order to ease maual labour . Wearing this garment shows the world that usage can still be good! And this is what makes us happy! We developed a brand ID and a name for second hand clothing, furniture and products. The label is called „Alterhase“, it should give the customer a chance to communicate his own attitude towards the excessive consumption and the appreciation of used products. Maybe it‘s a small step in the direction of a behavior change in term of consumption. „Alterhase“ is a german phrase which refers to the fact that old rabbits survive because they are smart and strong. On the other side a shop-owner has a good cooperate design to sell second hand products.

TAKE-A-RIDE CARD Process design
Why does nearly every car has only one or two passengers? With the take-a-ride card a car driver can show to others, that he is up for taking someone with him. The product communicates while the car is parking and driving. Take-a-ride furniture and signs next to traffic roads are supposed to show people who are looking for a ride, that they have the possibility to look for it there. The letter „M“ stands for „Mitfahrscheibe“, this means take-a-ride card. CITYGARDEN GD
der simple window ledge garten
A possibility to create the own garden also in a cityflat. I like to give the residence in a big city without access to their own garden to grow up plants and vegetables. Nature should be accessible everywhere.
The idea of Citygarden GD is to cover urban facades with greenery, give residents and children of urban flats the possibility, plant their own herbs and vegetables and help bees at the same time. The garden provides the possibility to install flowerpots on the window ledge in a very simple way. A bent polypropylene mat holds flowerpots and the system is stabilized by putting centre straps through the window frame. The window ledge carries the main weight.

WASTE REPAY SAVING SYSTEM save electricity and get money
How could one motivate people to deal with energy in a conscious and reasonable way?
In the WRS-System, a fee is collected from households with an above average energy use. The collected money is then divided and paid out to households that use less energy. Parameters such as the number of family members and the size of the living area have to be taken into consideration.

Putting a flat element under tension, in order to create a 3-dimensional figure. The ergonomic shape of the mouse is created by bending, by threading a belt through the tension element and fixing it. Alternatively a flat piece of metal with its ends bent up, could be used, to fix the bent element. The mouse offers possibilities, for design variation, as the structural components can easily be assembled by combining various materials, shapes and colors. Just as effortlessly as the mouse can be produced, shipped and assembled, the materials may be separated for the recycling. Award: Hama Student Award -first prize

This is about the partnership of the Fachschule f端r Holztechnik and the Senai in Curitiba/Arapongas. The Senai ist responsible for occupational advice and further training in brazil. A multifunctional piece of furniture should be developed, that could be set up in hotel rooms. The components of this modular piece of furniture are made of frames of solid wood and single elements of coated MDF. The whole piece is made up out of three different modules with an accompanying bench. The main purpose of the project was not just to develop furniture, but also about convey a systematic approach to dealing with projects. This was the first time I realized how ingeniously an interdisciplinary team can interact. Everybody had a function and could display their skills.

SPATIONATOR
The right distance as a letters game
The spationator emerged during typography class. A product should be developed that allows letters to be positioned at varying distances from each other. My spationator can be crafted in a few working steps, and may be used in various ways. The main idea is that the piece of aluminium and the wooden element form a drawer together. The aluminium piece acts in the lower area as a classical „runner“ and the upper edge of the wood functions as a guide, to prevent the back of the drawer from tipping out. The letters are plotted on to PP-strips and, due to the tensile properties of the material, can be clamped into the wooden-U-piece, and then be moved around.

PHOTOGRAPHY
making the invisible visible
Capturing beautiful situations and details, in order to make them visible for other people. Photography, one of my hobbies. Countries, people, technology, products, events and other interesting details, all the things I like to draw attention to, and make perceivable to the eye by means of photography.

CHAINSAW CARVING
a beautiful and rough recreation
Designing sculptures and furniture that are crafted solely by the use of a chainsaw. You quickly see the result, and that makes working with the chainsaw very exciting and fulfilling.
It all began with a relative who built what I thought was a quite extraordinary house. It was a blockhouse made up of tree trunks up to 80cm thick. During the construction work I discovered that the builder, Ralf Pfersich, not only builds blockhouses, but also offers chainsaw carving workshops... Since 2005 I count chainsaw carving to be one of my hobbies, that I at present clearly distinguish from my professional orientation in design.
