Formed as a medieval town. Became an important trading town during the 18th century and was prominent in the agricultural revolution. Since the second world war and glasgow clearances the town has developed a sprawling and disjointed character.

The Lakes The area houses three flood water retention ponds. The area has been landscaped to allow for leisure and social interaction. It forms part of a series of flood defences. High street pocket park A small town-side entrance to the park. Planted with Quercus to highlight its location.
1178 St. Martin’s Gardens St. Martin’s ruins have been highlighted by creating a walled garden and moving old gravestones next to the ruins. The area is tranquil and relaxing
