Campo San Trovaso
Campo San Trovaso The Campo has a raised square which during a flood could offer a small safe heaven perhaps originally intended for the collection of fresh water. Boarding the Campo is the Gondola boat yard, one of the few visible to tourists in the city.

Forte Maghera Venice Mestere The forte was designed by the Austrians as part of the strategic defence system for the lagoon. It was designed by the Austrians and built by the French between 1805 and 1809 in order to block access to the lagoon from the Salso Canal. In 1848 it was taken by Venetian patriots as a strategic defence against the Austrians. The Republic of Venice fell in 1797 to Napoleon Bonaparte. Under the Treaty of Campo Formio it was placed under Austrian rule until 1866, when the newly independent kingdom of Italy is formed after the 7 week war.

Venice is full of illusions, Alleys that appear to lead somewhere but stop abruptly revealing the a watery obstacle where only those with boats may call it a road.

The Basilica Santi Giovanni e Paolo is one of the largest churches in the city and as such is given the status of Minor Basilica. Since the 15th century the doges of Venice have been buried here, there are 25 crypts holding the doges of Venice inside the church and a large Campo wrapping around it. The later built Hospital has an extravagant facade bordering the church.
