TWIN CITIES DUBSTEP
A Growing Movement By Rob Lawson, Publisher
Twin Cities Dubstep began as a grassroots movement in the growing electronic music world. Dubstep has taken the world by storm and the Midwest is no exception, especially in the Twin Cities Metro area, which has approximately 3.8 million people. TC Dubstep has managed to go from basement dreams to clubhouse reality, making a business plan out of promoting something they love: the art of the DJ, Dancing and Club Music! They are also promoting the Infrasound Festival set to take place just before summer in Wisconsin. Their shows have been promoted at a club called the Loft in downtown Minneapolis upstairs from Barfly and the Skyway theater in an old warehouse building. TC Dubstep is promoting both national artists like Android Jones as well as locals like DJ Abilities. David Lieberman, a promoter and marketer for TC Dubstep, told me how they began a business around promoting dubstep artists and other visual artists as well, culminating into a cult following for what many twin cities club enthusiats have long been waiting for. Now, with the explosion of electronic music finally breaking into mainstream because of its undeniable roots in young, adolescent club culture, sex appeal and the notion of a collective of people dancing to music that is accompanied by costume fashion, DJs, pretty lights and lots of sweaty bodies. I noticed, after talking to several people at the show, that several of the attendees were from places as far away as Fargo, Duluth, parts of Wisconsin, St. Cloud and even South Dakota! The movement seems to be spreading like wildfire. In fact, TC Dubstep is one of the sponsors for Infrasound, which is set to take place at the end of May. Thanks to the age of social media, viral video and print publications like this one, movements like this one have the ability to spread to many other areas of the country and even the world. The harlem shake song by Baauer, who TC Dubstep promoted and is a worldwide known artist in the movement, and the subsequent viral video responses were astronomical in scale and reach.

Have you ever thought about the holiday of St. Patty’s day that we all celebrate and often inebriate ourselves during? Here are some excerpts from WikiPedia: It is named after Saint Patrick (c. AD 385–461), the most commonly recognised of the patron saints of Ireland. Little is known of Patrick’s early life, though it is known that he was born in Roman Britain in the fourth century, into a wealthy Romano-British family. His father was a deacon and his grandfather was a priest in the Christian church. At the age of sixteen, he was kidnapped by Irish raiders and taken captive to Ireland as a slave. According to his Confession, he was told by God in a dream to flee from captivity to the coast, where he would board a ship and return to Britain. Upon returning, he quickly joined the Church in Auxerre in Gaul and studied to be a priest. In 432, he again said that he was called back to Ireland, though as a bishop, to Christianise the Irish from their native polytheism. Irish folklore tells that one of his teaching methods included using the shamrock to explain the Christian doctrine of the Trinity to the Irish people. Originally, the colour associated with Saint Patrick was blue. Over the years the colour green and its association with Saint Patrick’s day grew. Green ribbons and shamrocks were worn in celebration of St Patrick’s Day as early as the 17th century. Saint Patrick is said to have used the shamrock, a three-leaved plant, to explain the Holy Trinity to the pagan Irish, and the wearing and display of shamrocks and shamrock-inspired designs have become a ubiquitous feature of the day.

REMEMBER McGOFF’S IRISH PUB?
There’s one place that I sincerely miss: McGoff’s Irish Pub. If you are familiar with the area where the modern glass-looking structure is that houses the I&S Engineering building in downtown Mankato, you might remember what was once there - a bustling local Irish Pub. McGoff’s had a lot to offer the locals: Two floors with pool tables and a sweet ass Atari system with Space Invaders and other cool games on the second floor, great staff, great food and most importantly, great drinks. It had the friendliest, quaint atmosphere that a great little Irish pub should have. It wasn’t the type of place you’d find a bunch of preppy do-gooders, but it also wasn’t a place full of mayhem either. It was just a traditional bar with something special. That something special was a great atmosphere. McGoff’s regularly had live music and open mic. I remember watching a lot of bands play there such as Sexual Chocolate and the White Boys from the Twin Cities and others. It’s hard to exactly remember all my nights at McGoff’s, of course, because when I was a frequent patron there, I was still a journalism student at Minnesota State University, where I graduated in 2007. Then off to Minneapolis, then Roswell, New Mexico, then Burnsville, then Albert Lea, then back to Mankato when I took on the editor position at the Maple River Messenger newspaper in Mapleton. I was surprised at the many structural changes in the community, but was sad to see such a place as McGoff’s closed down. Then again, in Mankato, we have seen a number of changes and I don’t think that is going stop any time soon. Hopefully, we will get a new Irish pub, but in the meantime I can reminisce. I can also go to Patrick’s on Third in St. Peter when I get the Irish pub kick (Patrick’s is also a kick ass pub!). Do you have photos from good times at McGoff’s? How about some old stories? Dig up your lost memories of this great past pub and post them on our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/slantedmag.

Blackjack is a fun game to play at the casino. Many people don’t understand the game though. Here are a few tips to keep in mind when playing blackjack: The goal is not to get 21. The game is to beat the dealer. Always assume the dealer has a face card or 10 facedown. If the dealer shows a low card, chances are you can stay if you’re past 12 and wait for the dealer to bust. Odds are better with fewer decks but the dealers odds are also better and tables have higher minimums. Practice first before heading to the high stakes tables. Always split aces and double down on 10 or 11, especially if the dealer isn’t showing face. Bet conservatively on bad shoes and pay attention to what cards have been drawn.
Fortune Myths Fortune myths are great. Some Asian cultures believe that colorful birthmarks on the face are a sign of good fortune and riches. Unfortunately, this has not come true for me yet. Fortune comes from Latin terminology and the Roman Goddess Fortuna is the Goddess of fortune and good luck. She is couterpart of Greek Tyche (according to thefreedictionary.com).

Opening of Earths Outer Crust; Possible Entry to Undiscovered Underworld.
YAMAL
http://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=ubKFmIDBMjU
THE THEORY OF THE HOLLOW EARTH Photos Courtesy of NPIEE
Have you heard of this theory, that the earth may be hollow? I can’t nearly do this story justice with the space that I have to write but I can lead you to the information in books, online and via YouTube. Brooks Agnew is an individual who has taken charge in spreading much of the information about the project. Agnew is an entrepreneur and scientist in the United States. There is a planned expedition for August 2013, in which a nuclear-powered ship from Russia called YAMAL, an icebreaker ship capable of cutting through thick arctic ice, will forge through and circumvent what is believed to be a large whole near the north pole! The project, called the North Pole Inner Earth Expedition. It has been crowd funded online and now is funded by a wealthy movie production corporation. The expedition will be broadcast live. There are helicopters on board the ship (they won’t sail directly in of course). Ever try to look at the north pole on Google Earth? There’s a big black hole there with no information. Satellites aren’t allowed there, and some say the Google Earth pictures are edited. I have not confirmed this, yet. There are military bases near the pole as well. Agnew is not a conspiracy theorist and does not believe the government will try to stop this expedition. However, it sparks curiosity and Agnew himself states that the government has to know something. For more information about the hollow earth, check out http://www.npiee.org/, which includes feature rich 3D videos describing the hollow earth theory. Also check updates at the Pheonix Science Foundation: http://www.phoenixsciencefoundation.org/APEX.htm. Here is blog excerpt from the Phoenix Science Foundation, a non-profit corporation with pending 501 3(c) status: “New creatures are being observed in the sea. Where do they come from? Possibly, they come from another ocean; one below the crust. Numerous universities have published results that indicate our ocean may be blending with another one beneath the crust. The Aurora Borealis appears over both poles at the same time. Impossible if it is caused from the solar wind. Very plausible if caused by an ion stream coming from the core of the planet. Besides the precision measurements and samples gathered by state-of-the-art instruments, we will be prepared to test the idea that inside a possible void in the Earth may exist life and an entire ecosystem waiting to be introduced to those of us who live on the surface. In other words, we will be scientifically prepared to catalog any type of life originating from inside the planet.”

New Belgium, who famously developed Fat Tire, has a wonderful brew called Dig, which has almost a nutmeg flavor to it. I recommend it. Also reccomended is the Jalepeno Popper Burger at Patrick’s, which I tried on special. I’m not sure that it’s even on their regular menu! Those afraid to try new things can enjoy
one of the classic patty melts that Patrick’s on Third offers. Something else to make note of: I saw Patrick’s on Third, which is an Irish Pub, had been offering Fish & Chips on special. Patrick’s is a place where you can get many delicious kinds of burgers including their famous Chuck Norris Burger and more than 22 different taps.

Charley’s Philosophy
Writings by Charles Minehart “I know, my dear Watson, that you share my love of all that is bizarre and outside the conventions and humdrum routines of everyday life.” -Sherlock Holmes Words that are hardly spoken and questions that are too hard to raise show all too clearly how little we really know about ourselves. What makes reality interesting is that we are floating in abstractive potential space but what keeps people grounded are the unasked, but left to the unanswered, questions that render our program of behaviors. When people start asking questions outside of the monduane that are considered unconventional or uncommon something in our beautiful minds begins to unfold. As I speak of a program of behavior, I am directly talking about the neurologically prewired model of the routine thought process that has led most of us unaware of our abstract provoked potential. So, we start to ask questions that are not rationally explicit and our neurons “begin to fire” looking for reason. In fields of science they call this neural learning, in which neuronal cells make connections that, in turn, build a neural network where our thoughts, ideas, expressions and experience take place. Without going further into the jargon of the synapses, axons, and dendrites, I want to make clear the confounds of space and the plasticity that our brains are accustomed to. I feel safe to say that we know more about the moon’s surface than we do the ocean’s floors, and I could say we know more about the material realm than we do our brains, in which we use less than 1/10. So the study of space in mind goes on and there lies room for the divine and the latent abilities in all of us as a remote viewer, clairvoyant, telepathist and so on as the undetermined laws of quantum nonlocality and quantum entanglement, when the synchronicities abruptly take place. What brings me here to you with these choices of words is the reverance I have followed resolutely. Delving into questions that are unconventional will open the flood gates where new water will emerge and raise new potential. I was a wanderer into a wanderer, turning religion into spirituality into quantum physics study onto philosophy and now I practice Qi Gong chinese medicine, the art of meditation. “Whispers the shout and silent echoes may return.” “Remember Dark Whispers In the Night.”
