What is global education and interculturality? Why global education? How can we prepare students for a globalized society. Benefits and challenges. Integrating eTwinning .


Various scholars perceive this as incorporating: •multiple perspectives •comprehension and appreciation of cultures •knowledge of global issues •the world as interrelated systems. Hanvey (1982), Merryfield (1997), Kirkwood (2001)


Global education motivates and empowers students to become active, responsible global citizens by promoting: global justice human rights sustainability peace Open mindedness Resistance to stereo typing Cross-cultural communication Digital skills Preparing the future citizen These are all essentially integrated in eTwinning projects. Intercultural interactions promote these elements and in effect eTwinning contributes towards the enhancement and development of global education through intercultural interaction

The face of education today has changed dramatically .Students today are facing a global society which is interconnected. This necessitates global and cultural integration skills along with competences in digital literacies to become successful global citizens. In other words 21st century skills flexibility to adapt to changing technologies Encourage critical thinking Creativity Problem-solving Communication, collaboration Global awareness Social responsibility


The most important element for all this to be a success is:

Teachers have a very important role in global education they are agents of change facilitating and inspiring this enhancement and transformation.

To sum up: ď ą The heart of global education is enabling young people to participate in shaping a better, shared future for the world. ď ą Global education emphasises the unity and interdependence of human society, developing a sense of self and appreciation of cultural diversity, affirmation of social justice and human rights, as well as building peace and actions for a sustainable future in different times and places. ď ą It promotes positive values and assists students to take responsibility for their actions and to see themselves as global citizens who can contribute to a more peaceful, just and sustainable world.
