As a graduate of Ferndale High School, he was selected to the All-State team and named Mr. Soccer in the state of Michigan in 1977. After high school he signed with local Oakland University where he served as a team captain in his senior year and was named to the AllMidwest All-Star Team. In 1982, Hermiz and the Grizzlies made an appearance at the NCAA Division II final four. After college Hermiz took his talents into the professional ranks of soccer where he was a member of the Iraqi American Sport Club.
