NORTHLANDS ASSOCIATION FOR SPECIAL RECREATION is a cooperative partnership between the Rockford, Freeport, and Belvidere park districts (referred to as member districts). NASR programs are open to any individual with disability-related special needs such as physical, mental, and developmental disabilities, and persons with mental illness, behavior disorders, visual, or hearing impairments. Member district residents are invited to participate in specialty/therapeutic recreation (TR) programs offered through any member district at the resident rate. Participation in inclusion services at a member district other than your own member district dictates you must pay the non-resident rate for that specific program. If you would like specific program information, please contact Belvidere and Freeport Park districts directly.

7. Not exceed 220 lbs Parents/guardians must attend a mandatory orientation on the Sunday night prior to the camp starting (time to be announced). The meeting will include information regarding what to expect during the week, how to prepare each day, and important bike and helmet information. Participants are asked to bring your own biking helmet all week, and on Thursday we ask that you bring your own bike from home so the trained iCan Ride staff can make sure the bike is appropriate for learning, and make small adjustments for the individual. Register for your preference of a morning or afternoon session. Once registration closes and individual skill assessments are completed, each family will be assigned their 75-minute session time for the week, and receive a letter with detailed camp information. During the week, parents/guardians are encouraged to stay and observe during their child’s riding session. [JM] Indoor Sports Center (ISC), 8800 E Riverside Blvd, Loves Park, IL

LIFE & LEISURE
What happens when you’ve been playing Buddy Baseball summer after summer, and then suddenly you’re ready to move up to the “big leagues?” You sign up for Summer Ball! The Rockford Park District is proud to present its first-ever adult Buddy program, an adult version of Buddy Baseball. We will modify rules to make this league even more like a typical baseball league. It will be slightly more competitive, but will still remain a recreational league for individuals of all abilities. Each player with a disability related need is paired with an adult volunteer to assist on and off the field. The program focuses on team play, exposure to a lifelong leisure skill, and participation in one of America’s favorite pastimes. All involved will have fun as friendships are formed and skills are developed. [LW]
June 10–Sept 2
Are you a bicyclist who is ready to transition from training wheels to a conventional two-wheeled bicycle? This program works with youth, teens, and adults with disabilities who experience difficulty in getting past training wheels and on to conventional two-wheeled bikes. Many persons, including individuals with varied disabilities (i.e., mild cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome, autism, and a wide range of developmental delays), can be taught to become successful, even accomplished, bicyclists without those dreaded training wheels! iCan Bike staff, in collaboration with Park District staff and volunteers, will assist each rider as they progress through a series of adapted bicycles toward their ultimate goal of riding without training wheels!
6. H ave a minimum inseam measurement of at least 20” when measured from the floor, wearing sneakers

Fall Gardening
The weather is warmer, the days are longer, and it’s time to dig in! We’ll add our own personal touches to the Linda K. White Center by planting flowers and vegetables. After we’re done planting, we’ll help maintain our landscape designs and make some crafts for our gardens at home. [PR]
Though it’ll start to cool down, we’re still digging in! Thanks to Nature Quest Summer Camp and the National Parks and Recreation Association, we’ll have a beautiful vegetable garden to care for and maintain in the fall. We will even make some snacks and sample home grown goodness! No worries, we can still continue care for our flowers, too.
