Please join us in wishing Abby Billips all the best as she starts a new adventure with the Lincolnway Special Recreation Association as their Staff and Safety Manager. Abby
started working seasonally for the Rockford Park District in 2006. After completing her internship with us in 2007, Abby began working full time overseeing the Inclusion Services area of the Therapeutic Recreation Department. She has been instrumental in the Adapted Sports field as the coach of the Jr. Chariots Team. She has worked hard over the years to grow the Jr. Wheelchair Basketball Holiday Tournament into one of the Midwest’s largest. In addition, she has been helping local veterans in the Healthy Minds/Healthy Bodies Program to reach their maximum health potential. Abby will be truly missed by all!

The Rockford Park District and the Rockford Dance Company have teamed up to provide Chance to Dance, a semester-long dance program for youth with disabilities. This class is a technique-based dance program that lets participants explore creative expression in a non-judgmental setting, creating an enjoyable opportunity for expressive movements. Learn basic dance skills, rhythm, and creative expression in a real dance studio. Please wear movable clothing such as sweat pants, t-shirts, and soft dance shoes (or go barefoot, but no socks, please). Parents are encouraged to stay and watch from the observation rooms. [JM]
Adult SERVICES
Note: If a swimmer is not completely toilet trained, swim diapers are required. Paper diapers of any type are not allowed in the pool. Swim pants or swim diapers must be reusable (not disposable) rubber or plastic pants that fit tightly around the waist and legs of the participant. There’s nothing like nature in the fall! The Atwood Center staff will be our guide through a night teams course, night hikes, and most importantly, some campfire treats. We’ll also be able to check out the new accessible treehouse while visiting the Birds of Prey. Make sure to dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes to hike — we’ll spend as much time outside as possible. Don’t be deterred if walking is not your main mode of travel; there are plenty of accessible trails we can use to make sure everyone is included! [BC]
Ghouls and guys — come on down for our annual Halloween Bash! It’s going to be a Monster Mash at our Halloween Bash. Who’s gonna have the best costume this year? You’ll find out once you’re there! Snacks and beverages will be provided. [BC]
