OCTOBER n CLASSIC SERIES Classics 1 Beethoven This all-Beethoven program features SAT Oct 1 three of the master’s greatest works: his dramatic Leonore Overture No. 7:30P 3; the Piano Concerto No. 3 in C minor, first performed in 1803; and his mighty Third Symphony, the “Eroica.” Pianist Awadagin Pratt, acclaimed for his musical insights and intensely involving performances, brings his talent to the RSO with the performance of Piano Concerto No. 3. Mr. Pratt graduated from the Peabody Conservatory of Music where he became the first student in the school’s history to receive diplomas in three performance areas — piano, violin, and conducting. 7:30P of classic rock hits like you’ve never seen or heard! The show features a “hit parade” of the greatest hits from classic rock like Kashmir, Hotel California, More than a Feeling, Barracuda, Cold as Ice, Dream On, All of My Love, and more with a full rock band and the RSO. The show features former lead singer of Kansas, John Elefante, performing great Kansas hits like Dust in the Wind and Carry on Wayward Son along with Mickey Thomas from Starship performing hits from Led Zeppelin, Heart, Foreigner, and more.

Ilya Kaler is a Gold Medal winner at three of the world’s most prestigious international violin competitions: the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow; the Sibelius Competition in Helsinki; and the Paganini Competition in Genoa. Join Music Director Steven Larsen for informal and enlightening discussions with the guest artists appearing with the RSO on Classics Series concerts. SoundBites talks begin at noon each Friday at Mauh-Nah-TeeSee Country Club before Classic Concert performances. The conversations last approximately one hour.

PreConcert Lectures

Steven Larsen introduces the audience to background information on composers and musical selections in a lecture, one-hour prior to Classics Concert performances. Preconcert lectures are an excellent way to prepare for the concert experience. Mr. Larsen’s considerable knowledge, presentation of information, and sense of humor enrich the performance. The lecture is free to all ticket holders.
