Images of #ArtBeat
#TheZineUK documentary began with a live music road show from January 2014. . .
Classical musician, Monefa Walker (photographed by Keira Cullinane) is also an Astrologist and a live music promoter for Rocklands ArtBeat and Musicians Against Homelessness events.
Although the HELVE live shows around South London have been postponed, like all other events, consider this a tip-off to find and investigate this exciting new band.
2020 was already off to a strong start before the lockdown. The interdependent nature of new music artists and their allies are behind the widespread support for artists and charities on line as a largely self-employed industry faces a bleak but defiantly creative future.
True DIY power. Spent a wonderful Leap Year’s Day bumping into friends, old and new… When we can get out again, anything in the vicinity of Werkhaus on Brick Lane is HAPPENING, baby!
The ULU 14+ show was always going to be about more than just one evening. Having previously promoted /co-promoted the likes of Kate Tempest, Bloc Party, Nova Twins, deux furieuses etc. - then TheZineUK co-promos (as Live Events Dept.) I 100% recommend these bands and can never thank 13 Artists sufficiently for having faith in the scouting/curating.
Couples, photographed by Xandru. The band headlined The Music People Party, December 2019. The documentary tips them for #2020. Great to see the reactions to ‘Faites L’Amour’ (Spring 2020 single - go find it).
Rocklands Costa Del Thames (i.e. S.E. London postcodes) includes Lewisham, London Borough of Culture 2021. The community and counter culture help (pic: People’s Day Festival)
Between No.3 Expo and the ArtBeatFest Expo, an extraordinary night (2015) in the backstage bar of Amersham Arms that included Pirate Treasures Jewellery and the mad Pink Cigar mobile!
Also in Rocklands, more monthly 14+ goodness (Kate, Tristan, Caffy and friends) mixing “urban” and punk into an after school Friday night party hosted by MC Rhymes of Too Many Ts
#ArtBeat is very much about the audiovisual sensations. #Art : Julia Woolams of 31% Wool #Beat : Bugeye A match made in positive creativity heaven, on multiple levels The debut album is coming from Bugeye and it will blow minds.
The founding of Rocklands started with this card from my sister and the phrase “Share The Joy” coined by Dickie ‘Beast’ Hammond.
Scott Morriss of The Bluetones doodled the ‘Love Peace Music’ dove for Uniqulture (a culture accepting and celebrating that we are each unique). Planet. People. Peace.
Smiley & The Underclass are genuinely one of the best bands. That’s it. A punky reggae party fusion clash of great times, tunes, rhythms Also the band that kicked off increasingly legendary events: Kick Out The Jamx Mix-Ups (which have now happened in Camden, Deptford, a three day festival in Brighton and during lockdown, a Bedroom Mix-Up! A favourite of Extinction Rebellion and Music Declares events, naturally, Smiley & The Underclass are the band that for the past few years have played over 100 festivals and gigs, UK, Europe (and two Japanese tours) without a booking agent. They start 2020 with one, though! Of course.
Talking of Lockdown Days. Many are Living The Stream. There are so many to mention creating highly personal, stripped down and intimate peeks into the lives of our favourites. The pandemic has been a great leveller, and although the bigger the name the bigger the interest, it is the up and comers (like @DivineSchism's "RemOHte Community" live stream! An association of interdependent music sites created #BalconyOnlineFest - the first two have so far raised over £750 for Musicians Against Homelessness and £1800 for NHS Charities, with the scouts tipping the entertainment and enjoying new finds.
The Future Is Unwritten, But I wouldn’t have got to this point any other way. So many magical experiences and good souls make Rocklands ArtBeat and the stars/events promoted, a total joy. Share The Joy. (Caffy St Luce)
