The Shimmer Band - 'YA YA (UH OH)'

THE SHIMMER BAND herald the autumn and THIS FEELING ALIVE TOUR with surprise, enormous brand new single: YA YA (UH OH) What an incredible year 2017 is turning out to be for THE SHIMMER BAND so far: sellout tours and queues around the block with CABBAGE and THE JESUS AND MARY CHAIN, a sell-out headline tour of the UK of their own in April, a summer of euphorically received Festival triumphs, and now as they embark as headliners on the THIS FEELING ALIVE UK TOUR they suddenly surprise release their new single: YA YA (UH OH). The track comes hot on the heels of their five critically acclaimed previous singles: SHOOT ME (BABY), FREEDOM, SUNKICK, JACKNIFE AND THE DEATH CALL & WHAT IS MINE?, and with it they ramp up their already enormous vision and uncompromising soundworld to yet another level with this David Francolini produced and Cenzo Townsend mixed assault on the senses. Opening with a shocking psyche-out-peyotoid-mescaline-chant punching unapologetically from the speakers, suddenly drummer Willz Hatcher and bassist TK Kuras turn on a sixpence and take us on a Bollywood fused with Afrobeat rollercoaster ride featuring Colombian percussionist Jeilis Buchara. It’s an infectious, hip swinging 'take-noprisoners' groove smoothed and psychedelicized by Tom Schmidt’s beautiful haunting synths which then swerve-carcrashes into an off-the-scale chorus knockout punch where Daniel Barry’s lysergic, lazer-guided guitars soar and all the band’s power, weight and rock and roll roar are simultaneously underscored and propelled skywards by Tom Newman’s astonishing electrified vocal performance: all heartfelt, gut shredding pure passion, and fearless, ecstatic and visceral lyrics. A perfect moment of sophisticated splendour then, of unashamed and pure avant-pop ambition, and THE SHIMMER BAND’s biggest and most international sounding song to date? Quite simply: This is the sound of the future. With support under their belts from the likes of BBC 6 Music, Steve Lamacq, Huw Stephens, BBC Introducing Maida Vale session, BBC Introducing R1 playlist, BBC Introducing Reading & Leeds Festival, Radio X, Clash, Music Week, Gigwise, and the unparalleled new music champions This Feeling, and an album to come in Spring 2018 The Shimmer Band are heading for the ionosphere.
