he Thunderbird is a legendary creature and messenger in certain North American indigenous peoples’ history and culture. It is considered a supernatural being of power and strength. It is especially important, and frequently depicted in art, songs and oral histories.

T

Myths tell the stories of ancestors and

the origin of humans and the world, the gods, supernatural beings (satyrs, nymphs, mermaids) and heroes with super-human, usually god-given, powers. It is told that Thunderbird is seen with the sun in place of its eyes when the bird woke in the morning bringing in the rising sun, and when it closed its eyes at night, the sun would set. Myths describe events of the sunrise and sunset, the full moon or thunder and lightning storms.

“The

Green Manalishi (Wit h t he Tw o Prong Crown A song written by Peter Green and recorded by Fleetwood Mac.

Heavy metal band Judas Priest covered the song on their 1979 album Hell Bent for Leather (the American version of Killing Machine). The first worldwide release was on the band’s live album, Unleashed in the East, released later that year. A re-recording of the song was also added as a bonus track on the German/Australian version of the album Demolition in 2001. It was released as a single in the UK in May 1970 and reached No. 10 on the British charts, a position it occupied for four consecutive weeks. The song was written during Peter Green’s final months with the band, at a time when he was struggling with LSD and had withdrawn from other members of the band; faced with the band’s refusal to give away all monetary gains. Peter Green (born Peter Allen Greenbaum, 29 October 1946) is an English blues rock guitarist. As the founder of Fleetwood Mac, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. Green’s songs, such as “Albatross”, “Black Magic Woman”, “Oh Well”, “The Green Manalishi (With the Two Prong Crown)”

and “Man of the World”, appeared on the record charts, and several have been adapted by a variety of musicians. Green was a major figure in the “second great epoch” of the British blues movement. B.B. King commented, “He has the sweetest tone I ever heard; he was the only one who gave me the cold sweats.”Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page have both praised his guitar playing; he is noted for his use of string bending, vibrato, and economy of style. Rolling Stone Magazine ranked Green at number 38 in its list of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time”. His tone on the instrumental “The Supernatural” was rated as one of the 50 greatest of all time by Guitar Player. In June 1996, Green was voted the third-best guitarist of all time in Mojo magazine. Band members Peter Green – guitar, vocals, six string bass Danny Kirwan – guitar John McVie – bass guitar Mick Fleetwood – drums, gong, maracas, claves Jeremy Spencer is thought not to have been present at the recording sessions, though he was present when Green was recording the eerie howling noises heard at the end of the song, according to an interview with Spencer on the BBC Peter Green documentary DVD, “Man of the World.” Source: Wikipedia

Why Does Iron Maiden Always Open With Doctor, Doctor By UFO? Best told by the fans... ustanothercucumber 9 months ago The band covered the song back when Blaze Bailey was a singer. I’m pretty sure the version they place before shows is that cover. I’ve seen them 12 times and I appreciate the tradition because I know that when I hear it the best band in the world is about to come on and blow my mind! I saw them recently in Newark (Wednesday I think), and I think now they have a live guitar doing the guitar parts over the track mylifeforthehorde 9 months ago It’s a recording of UFO w/ Schenker - always has been and always will be. If you’ve ever sat stage right/left close to the stage and can see the backstage, this is when the boys are doing there warm-ups - in fact they just about arrive to the show at this time sometimes. UFO was one of the early bands that Steve was influenced by and its now become a pre-concert ritual to start the show with it. And the show will always close with “Always look on the bright side of life” (from Monty Python) petdance 8 months ago http://www.vh1.com/video-clips/jlf59m/that-metal-show-steveharris-on-why-iron-maiden-opens-shows-with-ufo-music UFO is clearly a huge influence on Maiden, and Steve Harris’s bass playing especially. Go listen to the live version from “Strangers In The Night”, especially Pete Way’s bass, and you think “This could be a Maiden song.” Not surprisingly, Maiden have covered it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-ql9C_itQw Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/ironmaiden/comments/6gq5fx/why_does_iron_maiden_always_open_with_doctor/

Do

octor Doctor IRON MAIDEN’S UFO FIX

Lord of the Flies is 5 minutes long and a very good piece of music, not dull for one moment! It starts out with some nice guitar play and some simple drums, in not a too high tempo. It gives the song its mood right away, which is good! Blaze singing is good and the melodies are perfect. The guitar solo is not fast or spectacular, but fits perfectly in the song with its rhythmic tempo. Lord of the Flies is certainly one of Blaze’s highlights in Iron Maiden and should have been the first single I think. The second track is a cover of UFO’s song Doctor Doctor and Iron Maiden adapts it marvelously. Probably one of the best singing from Blaze ever. Yes, it is the song they open every show with. It starts out slow and moody, but then goes in in a bit faster tempo. I have to be honest and say that this cover is better than Lord of the Flies. It feels strange to say that a cover by Iron Maiden is as good as some of their own best songs, but the truth will set you free...

Concert Review: G3 – Satriani, Petrucci, and Collen SHRED Salem Written By: AndrewT Drew’s Reviews | Concert Reviews

Words can hardly convey what three of the finest guitar icons rocking today accomplished over the course of more than three hours on Friday at the Elsinore Theatre in Salem, OR. It was an extraordinary evening featuring Phil Collen of Def Leppard, John Petrucci of Dream Theater and the influential instrumentalist

Joe Satriani each playing individually then together as G3 shredding through solos, guitar wails and intricate harmonies only the gifted can master. Collen took the stage promptly at 8 p.m. laying out six songs for about 30 minutes. Nary a sound of his regular band Def Leppard, Collen started with two fast breaks highlighting his lightning speed rhythm technique before slowing it down for two blues-infused tracks. He finished with two straight up hard rock anthems. Read full article at: https://drewsreviews.org/2018/01/13/concert-reviewg3-satriani-petrucci-and-collen-shred-salem/

UFO / PETE WAY MEMORABILIA

From Pop Magazine UFO Article August 1975 Entitled: “Wild” UFO Persecuted By Bad Luck

“It really looks as if someone there above has got something against us” – sighs Michael Schenker watching Heaven. “So much of a bad luck we have had last weeks - its abnormal.” It all started in February. Michael collapsed in the recording studio where they have just finished working on their last album Force It. He was diagnosed serious liver – infection by the doctor and spent 6 weeks in hospital followed by 2 and a half months at his own bed of his London flat. “I could not stand it at the hospital anymore as there were only loud old people there talking dog-races all the time.” “Perhaps all this bad luck is a sign of something good coming soon” – thinks Michael. “We have reached the bad luck summit - from now on it can only get better.”

READING ROCK FESTIVAL ‘80 22nd – 24th August 1980

Headliners: Whitesnake, UFO and Rory

Gallagher, with a full supporting heavy rock cast including new up-and-coming NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal) bands Def Leppard and Iron Maiden. It was the 10th anniversary of the festival being at Reading, and the 20th anniversary of the national jazz and blues festival.

Friday line-up: Red Alert (a heavy rock band, I think and not the North East punk band of the same name); O1 Band; Hellions; Praying Mantis; Fischer Z; 9 Below Zero (a great R&B set); Krokus; Gillan (always a good solid set); Rory Gallagher.

By 1980, Rory had moved to a harder rock sound, dropping many of the classic bluesy tracks which had been staples of his set throughout the 70s. So he was no longer playing Bullfrog Blues or Messin’ with the Kid, as part of the main set, although he would sometimes play one or two of them during the encore. Instead his set was focusing on tracks from his most recent albums; Top Priority, Calling Card and Photo-Finish. But these are minor quibbles; Rory’s performance was, as always, outstanding.

Saturday line-up: Trimmer and Jenkins, Quartz; Writz; Broken

Home (featuring Dicken from Mr Big); White Spirit (North East NWOBHM heroes featuring Janik Gers); Grand Prix; Samson (the drummer played from inside a cage!); Pat Travers Band; Iron Maiden; UFO. Pat Travers played an intense set, Iron Maiden with original singer Paul Di’Anno at the time of the anthemic “Running Free” and headliners UFO. UFO had released their eighth album “No Place to Run” and the line-up was Phil Mogg (vocals), Paul Chapman (guitar), Paul Raymond (keyboards), Pete Way (bass) and Andy Parker (drums).

Sunday line-up: Sledgehammer;

Praying Mantis; Angelwitch; Tygers Of Pantang; Girl; Magnum; Budgie; Slade; Def Leppard; Whitesnake. Sunday belonged to two bands: Slade and Whitesnake. Slade first. Metal legend Ozzy Osbourne was billed to play on the Sunday with his new band Blizzard of Oz, but he pulled out at the last minute and was replaced by Slade. I have already written about Slade’s amazing performance and have reproduced some of my previous post here. Slade appeared after glam heavy metal band Girl, and just before NWOBHM heroes Def Leppard. And then it started to happen. Slowly at first, the crowd began to cheer. People wandering around the outskirts of the site started to run towards the stage. Slade knew they had to win the crowd over and were working so hard, rocking so hard, and playing the hits. The area around the stage was soon completely rammed and the whole field was going crazy. Amazing. Slade nailed it, and in the space of one hour made sure that they were well and truly back. Dave Hill: “One heck of an experience, ‘cos I wasn’t going to do that gig. Slade manager Chas Chandler talked me into it…the confidence came when there was a reaction, as it built and built, sort of got bigger and bigger. I mean getting that lot to sing “Merry Xmas Everybody” was amazing.” The event was recorded and a few tracks

were released as an EP.

ROCK LEGEND NEWS

Whitesnake consolidated their position as worthy festival headliners. They’d closed the festival the previous year, despite not receiving top billing in the pre-festival publicity. This year, however, their headline status was clear, and they deserved it. They had just released Ready an’ Willing their third studio album, which reached No. 6 on the UK Albums Chart, and featured the hit single: “Fool for Your Loving”. This was a great Whitesnake performance; their set now included classic Purple tracks “Soldier or Fortune” and “Mistreated” and new favourites the aforementioned “Fool for Your Loving”, along with “Walking in the Shadow of the Blues” and “Ain’t No Love in the Heart of the City.” More at: https://vintagerock.wordpress.com/category/reading-festival/

UFO / PETE WAY MEMORABILIA

Metal Rules

PETE WAY INTERVIEW Written by Marko Syrjala March 26, 2007 [Excerpts] The legendary British band, UFO, first reaped moderate success with their space rock in the early 70’s. This was before they had introduced Michael Shenker into their ranks. They finally hit it big with their PHENOMENON (1974) album. Their fortunes continued to ascend with FORCE IT (1975), NO HEAVY PETTING (1976), LIGHTS OUT (1977) and OBSESSIONS (1978) albums and the accompanied tours that followed, before finally climaxing with the lauded double live album STRANGERS IN THE NIGHT (1979). As the 70’s drew to a close, the story of UFO was far from over. Many incarnations, detours, and distractions later, UFO remain to this day a force to be reckoned with both live and, as their new album THE MONKEY PUZZLE (2006) proves, in the studio as well.

We managed to catch Pete Way last month in Copenhagen prior to the UFO show in Pumpehuset and here are the results of our interesting discussion. In this interview, Pete recounts some highs and lows from his whole career, including Fastway, Ozzy Osbourne, Waysted, Damage Control and of course UFO. Q. Later on during the “Walk on Water” tour you got Simon Wright (former AC/DC, Dio drummer), who’s playing with you on this tour as well, in the band? A. “The reason we got Simon with us now, apart from that he’s our friend, is because Andy has broken his ankle and had to have an operation. We waited all this time for Andy to come back into the band and he does this! He actually had to have these screws put in, it was a bad break. So it was lucky, because Ronnie [James Dio] is working with that band Heaven & Hell and of course Simon isn’t playing with them and was available. It wasn’t very difficult to change from Andy to Simon. Andy plays slightly different but Simon certainly puts in a good show.

Is it true that you also had a project going on with Vinnie Appice [of BLACK SABBATH, DIO] and Tracy G [of DIO] back in 1996? Yeah, very briefly. Phil [Mogg] and I did, because we’re friends with Vinnie. Vinnie asked what we thought about his guitarist friend; Phil came over and we tried some stuff and it was alright, but we didn’t go any further at the time. I don’t really know what happened, it’s been a while since I’ve seen Vinnie, I’ll have to ask him about that. Q. Vinnie’s going to be doing a lot of touring with HEAVEN & HELL at least until the end of the year and hopefully beyond? A. I don’t know if Simon’s been thinking that [laughs].

Who Played There: Van Halen, Mötley Crüe, Poison, Warrant, Faster Pussycat, Quiet Riot, Odin, Hawk. Why It Ruled: Housed in the same superhumanly high-haired Sunset Strip row that contains the Rainbow, the Roxy, and the Whisky, the smaller and now long-defunct Gazzarri’s actually outranks those three still vibrant brand name institutions in sheer metal might for a spiked fistful of reasons. First, proprietor Bill Gazzarri was a dandified, 1930s-movie-mobster-type character who maintained that schtick through the psychedelic ’60s, when the Doors were his

Gazzarri’s at 9039 Sunset Blvd., Hollywood, CA 1981 house band, on up to the high grunge era, when his club shuttered in 1993. Secondly, Van Halen made Gazzarri’s their own during their run-up to superstardom, blowing minds and amplifiers alike as the nightspot’s mid-to-late-’70s house band. Finally, Bill Gazzarri and his club became the number-one breaker of future big-time talent during the Sunset Strip’s hair-metal heyday. This particular moment is immortalized in Penelope Spheeris’s 1988 documentary masterpiece The Decline of Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years. Bill’s moment introducing the band Odin, wherein he chants the name as though it’s just one syllable, stands as one of the film’s absolute highlights. GAZZARRI’S SUNSET BLVD. “I’ll never forget the day I spent with Bill Gazzari at his bar chatting for hours about HAWK and listening to the history of Gazzari’s, playing the HAWK demo tape for him and that moment when he said he would book Hawk... We hit it off and he helped me put up the HAWK display window right next to the entry door outside the club on the Strip. Loved Bill, he was an awesome, super gentleman! Along with Gazzarri’s, I booked Hawk at the Troubador, Country Club and Roxy around the time I got a demo tape to Michael Wagner at his Burbank studio and waited by his side while he listened to it, then delivered a demo to Spencer Proffer at Pascha Studio on Melrose... another cool story. RonnieJames Dio's Band ELF Dio/Elf

Ronald James Padavona, known professionally as Ronnie James Dio or simply Dio, was an American singer, songwriter, and musician. Dio fronted and/or founded numerous groups including Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Dio, and Heaven & Hell. Elf’s self-titled debut album was produced by Deep Purple members Roger Glover and Ian Paice, who happened to see Elf auditioning in 1972. For the next few years, the band enjoyed mild success as an opening act for Deep Purple.

Elf Formed

June 1970, Cortland, NY, United States Disbanded: February 1975

Members

Ronnie James Dio (vocals, bass), David Rock Feinstein (guitar, 1970-73), Gary Driscoll (drums, percussion), Mickey Lee Soule (piano, keyboards, vocals), Steve Edwards (guitar, 1973-75), Craig Gruber (bass, 1973-75), Mark Nauseef (percussion, 1975). Also Known As The Electric Elves, The Elves.

Mid/Late 1970-Early 1973

After recovering from a car crash and getting new pianist to replace Doug Thaler, the band changed their name from The Elves to Elf. They played at clubs, colleges and bars looking for a record contract. Roger Glover and Ian Paice of Deep Purple happened to see them auditioning for Colum-

bia in January 1972 and offered to produce an album for them. In April 1972 the band went with those two Deep Purple members to record an album at Studio One in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. The studio sessions yielded band’s first LP and it was called simply Elf. After the release of it, the band played as the support band for Deep Purple on at least two

“There was never really an “end” to Ronnie Dio and the Prophets or a “beginning” of the Electric Elves. I joined Ronnie, Nicky, Gary, and David in September, 1967. Until the crash (Feb 1968), we began pushing the Electric Elves name in place of Ronnie Dio and the Prophets.” Ronnie handled both the vocals and the bass, Nick and Ronnie’s cousin Dave Feinstein offered a dual guitar partnership. Gary Driscoll handled the Drums and Doug Thaler the keyboards. The band was called The Electric Elves.

During the time where they were actively looking for a recording contract, and earning their living across America playing clubs, college bars and the like, Roger Glover and Ian Paice of Deep Purple happened to see them in a club, auditioning for Columbia Records in January 1972. After being noticed by the Deep Purple bass player, Roger Glover, and drummer Ian Paice, they offered to produce an album for them. In April 1972 the band went with the two Deep Purple members to record an album at Studio One in Atlanta, Georgia in America. The studio sessions yielded the band’s hesitant debut album, which was simply entitled “Elf,” and released on the Purple Records label. After the release of their album, and because of this relation to “KISS manager Doc McGhee has managed everyone in rock n’ roll, and he’s got the stories to prove it. Doc also orchestrated the Moscow Music Peace Festival and almost ended up managing Mikhail Gorbachev! Read complete article. http://www.BonThLastHighway.com Remembering Bon #11: Barry Bergman By Jesse Fink 6/27/2017 In New York, during the writing of Bon: The Last Highway, I visited BARRY BERGMAN, formerly of Edward B. Marks Music Corporation. Edward B. Marks was AC/DC’s American publisher for High Voltage (1976) through to Highway To Hell (1979). When AC/ DC first arrived in America in July 1977, he traveled with the band to Texas and Florida. The camaraderie, he says, was there to see. So who outside of the band was responsible for AC/DC making it in America? ‘I would say [AC/DC’s booking agent] Doug Thaler (below), myself, Klenfner, and maybe one or two others were the reasons the band made it, especially Doug and myself. Because Doug was a real believer and a team player and he worked for ATI’s Jeff

Franklin at the time. He put together a great tour for them and everything, and I think it was on a handshake.’ He also says Klenfner, who got sacked by Atlantic president Jerry Greenberg in 1979, told him about the idea of dropping Harry Vanda and George Young as AC/DC’s producers and getting Mutt Lange to produce AC/DC. (This clashes with Browning’s version that it was solely his idea to recruit the Zambian producer for Highway To Hell and supports the testimony of others who I have spoken to previously from Atlantic who said the idea originated elsewhere, most likely from Doug Thaler.) Read complete article. Deep Purple the band played as the support for Deep Purple on at least two US tours; from August to September and from November to December 1972. However, these dates aren’t necessarily fully correct, Elf may have toured with Deep Purple on other dates too. He was named by Pollstar and Performance magazine as Personal Manager Of The Year in 1987. In 1989 Performance magazine again named him Personal Manager Of The Year. Along with Doc McGhee, he co-managed Mötley Crüe. He is Doug Thaler. Doug Thaler didn’t start out as a personal manager. He once played alongside Ronnie James Dio in The Elves, later known as Elf. On a personal note, I used to call Doug Thaler in the late 1980s and we’d talk about other personal managers - Brian Epstein and Col. Tom Parker.

Elf was an American rock band founded in 1967 by singer and bassist Ronnie James Dio, keyboardist Doug Thaler, drummer Gary Driscoll and guitarists Nick Pantasand David Feinstein (Dio’s cousin). The band was originally called The Electric Elves, but was shortened to The Elves in 1968 and finally Elf in 1972.Elf disbanded in 1975 after recording three albums and after most of the lineup had been absorbed into Ritchie Blackmore’s new group, Rainbow. [Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elf_(band)] http://ronniejamesdiosite.com/NewsInterviews/articles/Biographys/EarlyYearsRoots/roots.html Here are excerpts from the interview: Q - When I was talking with you, you were with Doc McGhee. What happened there? A - Well, that was a long time ago. Doc and I started out at the end of 1982. Long story made short, he was a difficult person to be in business with. We agreed on some things and they didn’t play out the way we agreed on them. I had some good times there. I made some good money. He got himself into some legal difficulties. Q - I remember that. Big legal difficulties. A - Yeah. As a result of those, he had to agree to do this thing in Russia, a 1989 concert in Moscow. The Moscow Music Peace Festival or something like that. He was on the line to do it. He had to do it. It was part of his deal with the government to stay out of jail on that thing. He kind of said it to every group differently. For Bon Jovi, it was just part of their World Headline Tour. For everybody else it was like this or that or whatever. He had created problems for himself with Mötley Crüe. As a result of the Moscow date, the way things went, some of the things Mötley Crüe were told they could do and nobody else would be able to do, it didn’t happen and they just had enough. They wanted to know if I would leave and manage them myself. So, that’s what happened in 1989. I agreed to do that. I had 6 1/2 years in with him then and I felt like I’d rather take my chances on my own then continue with Doc.

Q - When you were with Doc, you had Bon Jovi, Mötley Crüe and The Scorpions. Were you the co-manager of those groups? A - I was always the co-manager of Mötley Crüe. I co-managed Bon Jovi for one cycle and that was the Slippery When Wet cycle. Doc and I co-managed The Scorpions and we had a German partner. That was a three-way split. I co-managed Bon Jovi in ‘86 and ‘87 for those two years when they were recording and working on “Slippery When Wet” and touring behind it. Q - How did you meet Ronnie James Dio? A - I graduated from Rome Free Academy. I thought I wanted to be a track coach and an English teacher, so I went to school in Cortland. In ‘63 I started out at Cortland State. Ronnie had one of the best groups in the area even then. I played in a couple of college bands and I saw Ronnie’s band play a couple of times. Over the course of a couple of years I became friends with Nicky Pantas first. He was the guitar player in Dio’s band. I became a lot more interested in playing music then I was interested in going to school. I became more like a “townie” that also went to school. So, I worked my way through Cortland State playing in bands. Nicky had a studio. Back then you couldn’t record an album on a computer in your bedroom. He had a little demo studio down there. I would go over to his place and put down song ideas. In 1967, I knew Ronnie by then. I knew all the guys in all the local groups. In 1967, I wrote a song and demo(ed) it at Nicky’s studio and Ronnie really liked it and wanted to record it. He asked me to go to New York with the rest of the band and record the song. A couple of weeks later, Ronnie and Bobby Comstock got an opportunity. Back in those days you got opportunities to back artists that needed musicians like Freddy Cannon or somebody like that. The summer of ‘67, Ronnie landed a gig as Gene Pitney’s backup band on a national tour. It was The Gene Pitney Cavalcade Of Stars. You would warm the audience up with a couple or three songs. Then you’d come back out and back up Gene Pitney, who’s the star of the show, but you also had to be the road crew. The backup band also humped all the year. (laughs) The guitar player in Ronnie’s band, Nicky Pantas had a real bad ulcer. Nicky was a guy who was about 5’ 4”, weighed 110 pounds and wasn’t in the best of health. He felt it would be too difficult for him and

he suggested to Ronnie that they take me in his place and he would go to the hospital to get this ulcer taken care of and get some relief for it. I was in a band called Brian’s Idols at the time. So, I went off and played in the Gene Pitney tour for two months. When I came back, they threw me out of Brian’s Idols. So Ronnie took me in as a keyboard player into Ronnie Dio And The Prophets. Q - You played clubs with Ronnie Dio? A - I played every railroad crossing in the Northeast with Ronnie Dio. I played with him for five years. Q - Was it Elf that you were in with Ronnie? A - No. It was not Elf. It was Ronnie Dio And The Prophets when I started out. The song that we recorded in 1967 that I wrote, we put it out on MGM as The Electric Elves. And of course it went on and didn’t sell anything. It didn’t do anything. Then we got in a bad car accident in February 1968 and that broke the group up for a few months. By the time I rejoined it, we started using the name Electric Elves again. Then we just shortened it to Elves. And when I quit the band, the other guys went on as Elf.

Q - I’d like to read to you a couple of quotes from the late Lillian Roxon on managers: “The star has to have it and the manager has to know it. The manager has to have the same sort of instinctive sense of timing offstage that the star has on stage.” Would you agree with that? A - If I saw something that I felt was really good and I felt like I could take this to the next place, then it was something I would get involved in. But, there wasn’t much of that going on. For example, I remember the first time I saw Mötley Crüe. I said, “this works!” This will work anywhere. This is a great piece of enter-

tainment. The songs are good enough. The act is good enough just the way it looks, the way they play, the way they present themselves to the audience. I felt like if we could clean it up a little bit, take it around the world and if we could get them in the studio and make a record that could get on the a.m. radio of the day, a Rock record, the sky was the limit. I sat these guys down a couple of days after I first saw them and met them and I laid out a plan of what we were going to do. “Here’s what we’ll do the first year, and this will succeed.” And it did. We did just what I laid out and I got Tom Werman to produce a record. Tom’s records got on the radio. “Looks That Kill” got on the radio. “Too Young To Fall In Love” got on the radio. And we delivered it. Then the summer of 1980 when Doc and I saw Bon Jovi, he had the song “Runaway”, and I felt the band was good. He was good. He was charismatic. And he had a song you could launch a career behind. Q - Did you see Mötley Crüe by yourself or with Doc? A - Doc and I went to see them together on New Year’s Eve of ‘82 going into ‘83 at the Santa Monica Civic Center. Q - And you both agreed that Mötley Crüe was going to be a supergroup? A - I don’t know that he was as sold on it as I was. He wasn’t coming from a Hard Rock background. He’d been in business with Pat Travers. He’d been managing Pat Travers for about a year and a half or two. I don’t think he had a real good feel for Hard Rock and what to do with it, and I’d been in the Hard Rock business for 10 years by that time. When I saw Mötley Crüe, I felt everything that I’ve done in the music business up until then had just prepared me to deliver this band. Q - It took the better part of a year to sort out Mötley Crüe’s problems. What kind of problems are you talking about? Financial? A - Well, they had no money whatsoever and they had substance abuse problems. These guys, when we first started managing them, you’d take them over to SIR and rent a studio for them and they’d go out and get booze. By 2 o’clock in the afternoon they’d

be shit-faced and fighting with each other. They didn’t even know how to rehearse properly. So we really had to take it from the ground up with them. It was not that they had problems. They had all sorts of potential. Doc had some money to put into it. That was an important element as well.

With blockchain, imagine if you bought a song online for 99 cents and that money was automatically distributed straight to all the contributors—the producer, all the writers of that song. With this technology, the money can go into everybody’s wallets automatically, it doesn’t go into a bank account where somebody’s making all that money and interest,” he told Yahoo Finance.

Guns N’ Roses Drummer Uses Crypto to Change Music Industry By C. Edward Kelso | Bitcoin News

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame drummer Matt Sorum, formerly of Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver, is lending his name and experience to a new crypto funding project, Artbit, in an effort to eliminate the age-old middle-person between artists and consumers.

Former Guns N’ Roses Drummer Matt Sorum Wants Artists to Get Paid What They’re Due. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame drummer Matt Sorum explains, “My interest is in cutting the middleman. That’s been something on artists’ minds for years. There’s all these people you got to pay along the way. With blockchain, imagine if you bought a song online for 99 cents and that money was automatically distributed straight to all the contributors— the producer, all the writers of that song. With this technology, the money can go into everybody’s wallets automatically, it doesn’t go into a bank account where somebody’s making all that money and interest,” he told Yahoo Finance.

It might be difficult to understand how much has changed in such a small period of time for the music industry. For most of pop music’s history, distribution has largely been based on government licensed radio stations. A cartel arose, similar to the taxi industry, as coveted licenses were purchased, and in tandem a label industry emerged alongside. The two worked hand-in-hand through payola to essentially make contrived markets.

Eliminating the Middle-Person “This whole crypto economy, this is the future. To me it’s like the new rock and roll… Cutting out the middleman, they’ve done it with Airbnb, they’ve done it with Uber. The community is running the world now. Direct source. Traditionally what’s happened in music for decades is that the artist is the last guy to get paid. At Artbit, we’re going to make it the first guy to get paid,” Mr. Sorum said. Artbit is built on top of a distributed ledger platform, Hashgraph, a controversial blockchain replacement. It’s a way to bring smart contracts to the music industry and beyond. Mr. Sorum’s hope is to create what the company refers to as “curatorial public,” essentially eliminating an intermediary. How that is exactly accomplished is still fuzzy, but the company explains artists are to be paid automatically, directly. Using a wallet, no intermediary between artist and consumer, transactions are peer-to-peer.

Slash is a guest on Pete Way’s new album: “Walking On The Edge,” with Mike Clink, Guns ‘N Roses long time producer, producing Pete’s album. Guns ‘N Roses were initially attracted to Clink through his work on UFO’s Strangers In The Night. Matt Sorum was drummer on HAWK album.

Ronnie Moas rocks!

Ronnie Moas Rocks With Disturbed & Crypto @RonnieMoas February 21, 2018 “Do not ever judge a book by its cover. The lead singer from Disturbed has THREE university degrees including one in Philosophy and is fluent in Hebrew. It was great having dinner with these guys tonight; 3 hours of amazing conversation; see prior tweets,” says Ronnie Moas. With a collection of more than 1,500 CDs, Moas has a broad taste in music. Pushed for a list of favorites, he singles out legendary rock bands like Led Zeppelin, Motorhead, AC/DC, The Cult and Judas Priest. On any given day you can scroll through Crypto Twitter and see a hard rock song he is currently listening to. Recently, it was Disturbed’s Down With The Sickness, (Live at Rock am Ring 2008, Germany) [HD].

Recently Fantastic three-hour dinner & conversation with my friends from hard rock band Disturbed / the lead singer used to live in my country Israel / their recent video has been seen more than 340,000,000 times. See previous post / they are recording their new album in Las Vegas now. Ronnie Moas, founder of Standpoint Research, who has given

Cointelegraph some of the most accurate price predictions on Bitcoin this year, in an exclusive interview, spoke about his journey through Wall Street, his charitable endeavors and his newfound love for cryptocurrencies. Renowned stock picker Ronnie Moas is many things, but he certainly IS NOT a billionaire, nor a former hedge fund manager, as was incorrectly reported by this writer earlier this week. In fact, the 50-year-old admits that there is no place he would hate being more than in a room full of the world’s richest people. It is almost contradictory, given that the founder of Standpoint Research has been giving fortune-making stock recommendations for the past 20 years. “I am not a billionaire, and I would not want to be seen in the same room as a billionaire. I am nauseated by the way they behave, I am nauseated by the amount of money they spend on themselves when we have people starving to death in this world.”

The Robin Hood of Wall Street

Having spent the last 20 years providing the very best stock analysis to various clientele, Moas has rubbed shoulders with some of the richest people out there. Perhaps that is why he has taken it upon himself to give back to the poorest of the poor, Robin Hood-esque, having seen wealth and greed in the ugliest light. For the past decade, Moas has been closely involved with Food for the Poor, one of the largest, five-star rated charity organizations in the US. Moas has devoted a lot his personal time, energy and resources to the charity.

Work, travel, music You wouldn’t be wrong if you consider Moas a workaholic. For the past 10 years, he’s been consistently rated as one of the best stock pickers in the world. With the help of a small and trusted team at Standpoint Research, he delivers stock analysis on a daily basis. When he finds the time, travel and music are favorite pastimes. When he lived in Israel, he worked for Shuki Weiss Productions who has been bringing the biggest artists and bands in the World to Israel for the past 25 years. Moas says Tel Aviv has become a central point for bands to play, given the socio-political turmoil in surrounding countries. Guns N’ Roses and Aerosmith recently chose to end their respective European tours in Tel Aviv. With a collection of more than 1,500 CDs, Moas has a broad taste in music. Pushed for a list of favorites, he singles out legendary rock bands like Led Zeppelin, Motorhead, AC/DC, The Cult and Judas Priest. Riding the crypto wave Moas has quickly become a trusted voice in the cryptocurrency space, especially when it comes to valuations and price predictions. He has been spot on with a number of predictions in 2017 - which is extraordinary if you consider that he only started analyzing the cryptocurrency market this year. “I have people calling me from third world countries who have an eighth of a Bitcoin, worth $2,000, hoping that it will be worth $20,000 one day so that they can rescue their entire family from poverty.” Source: https://cointelegraph.com/news/ronnie-moas-not-a-billionaire-but-a-crypto-guru

If you watch the Bitcoin wallets over the last 4 months, you will see that the top HODLERS (holders) are buying and holding, while the bottom wallets are selling. Guitar Center $1 billion in debt reveals a truth about musical tastes By KEVIN SMITH | kvsmith@scng.com | San Gabriel Valley Tribune PUBLISHED: March 20, 2018 at 5:18 pm | UPDATED: March 21, 2018 at 5:06 pm

Guitar Center, the nation’s leading musical-instrument retailer, is in trouble. Changing musical tastes are partly to blame. Ratings agency S&P Global downgraded Westlake Village-based Guitar Center Holdings Inc. for the second time last week as the troubled instrument retailer seeks to refinance and restructure more than $1 billion of debt. “Most of what’s really selling today is rap and hip hop,” said George Gruhn, owner of the Gruhn Guitars shop in Nashville. “That’s outpacing other forms of music and they don’t use a lot of recognizable musical instruments.” No more guitar heroes The instrument is also facing an identity crisis. Guitar heroes – who have inspired many a player and fueled strong instru-

ment sales – are few and far between these days, according to Gruhn. “I would be hard-pressed to name any new ones,” he said. “You’ve got Joe Bonamassa who is a great player. But he isn’t selling as many guitars as the other big time heroes. And Eric Clapton is arthritic. He’s having difficulty playing and is retiring from touring.” Source and full article: https://www.dailynews. com/2018/03/20/guitar-centers-1-billion-in-debt-revealstruth-about-musical-tastes/

Ancient Cryptography Cryptography is the art of writing codes or solving codes. It is the underlying nature of art, music & technology. The first known evidence of the use of cryptography (in some form) was found in an inscription carved around 1900 BC, in the main chamber of the tomb of the nobleman Khnumhotep II, in Egypt. The scribe used some unusual hieroglyphic symbols here and there in place of more ordinary ones. Parts of the Egyptian demotic Greek Magical Papyri were written in a cypher script. The ancient Egyptian god Horus was a deity with many roles. His image and symbols can be found all through ancient Egyptian art. He is usually represented as a Falcon or a human figure with a Falcon head. In ancient Egypt the Sun and the Moon were regarded as the all seeing eyes of the great falcon god Horus. His right eye being the Sun and his left eye, the Moon. This original painting was mixed media. The ankh or ankh (unicode 2625 U) is the Egyptian hieroglyph representing the NH word, which means “life.” It is an attribute of the Egyptian gods that can keep the loop, or wear one in each hand, arms crossed over the chest. This symbol was called crux ansata (Latin for “cross with a handle”).

In mathematics, the Borromean rings consist of three topological circles which are linked and form a Brunnian link (i.e., removing any ring results in two unlinked rings). In other words, no two of the three rings are linked with each other as a Hopf link, but nonetheless all three are linked. The name “Borromean rings” comes from their use in the coat of arms of the aristocratic Borromeo family in Northern Italy. The link itself is much older and has appeared in the form of the valknut on Norse image stones dating back to the 7th century. The Borromean rings have been used in different contexts to indicate strength in unity, e.g., in religion or art. Each ring representing a fundamental Lacanian component of reality: the “real,” the “imaginary,” and the “symbolic.”

“INTEGRAL caught a unique moment in the birth of a rare binary system”

– Enrico Bozzo, University of Geneva

The neighbors have likely been paired together for billions of years, which is not in itself noteworthy: stars often live in binary pairs. But the pair spotted by INTEGRAL on August 13th 2017 is very unusual. The donor star is a red giant, and the recipient is a neutron star. So far, astronomers only know of 10 of these pairs, called ‘symbiotic X-ray binaries’. To understand what’s happening between these neighbors, we have to look at stellar evolution.... “INTEGRAL caught a unique moment in the birth of a rare binary system,” says Enrico Bozzo from University of Geneva and lead author of the paper that

TO LIFE WITH HELP OF A DONOR STAR By Evan Gough

Space & Exploration The ESA INTEGRA observatory has witnessed a “zombie” neutron star being re-energized by the solar wind of its companion red giant star, and coming back to life in a burst of x-rays. - Image Credit: ESA It’s not exactly an organ donor, but a star in the direction of the hyper-populated core of the Milky Way donating some of its mass to a dormant neighbor. The result? The dormant neighbor sprung back to life with an X-ray burst captured by the ESA‘s INTEGRAL (INTErnational Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Laboratory) space observatory. describes the discovery. “The red giant released a sufficiently dense slow wind to feed its neutron star companion, giving rise to high-energy emission from the dead stellar core for the first time.”

“…we believe we saw the X-rays turning on for the first time.” – Erik Kuulkers, ESA INTEGRAL Project Scientist. The next question is how long will this process go on? Wells Fargo Bank Quotas Be Your Own Bank

[Excerpts] When Kevin Pham heard that Wells Fargo had been fined by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau for creating sham accounts to meet sales goals, he knew exactly what it was about. He wanted the world to know. At Kinko’s, he made a sign — in Wells Fargo red and yellow — saying “CLOSE YOUR ACCOUNT #holdwfaccountable” and had a passerby take a photo of himself holding it in front of company headquarters in San Francisco. Then he posted it to Facebook along with a letter describing what he called the “victimization of unwitting customers” — the elderly, non-native English speakers, college students and other financially unsophisticated groups — that he witnessed as an employee. He called for Stumpf to resign and launched a campaign to get current customers to close their accounts. In eight days, his post gathered 50,000 shares. QUOTAS Hospitals (corporations) have them - they have to keep so many beds filled each month, doctors have them, pharmaceutical companies have them, banks have them, car salesmen have them... all major corporations have them. If we use them, we are all a part of what helps these corporations meet their monthly quota’s. Pham said the unethical practices he saw when he worked at Wells Fargo stemmed from “incredibly aggressive” sales goals — 10 new accounts a day per banker. According to Pham, other methods included: Opening accounts in friends’ names. “If you have a slow day, there were some people who had really good friends — and they would constantly open and close them new accounts,” says Pham. “Sometimes you’d see a profile with 30 opened and closed accounts.” If someone had experienced fraud on their account, the banker would have them close it and open new accounts instead.

Opening accounts in the names of coworkers to help sales associates reach their savings goals. “[Employees] would open accounts for one another, so your own individual account would be your personal, but you’d have two or three separate checking and savings accounts to help associates meet sales goals, “says Pham’s coworker, Victor Aguilar IV, 28, of San Jose, who worked at Wells Fargo from 2008 to 2015. There were many other practices that were waved off as long as numbers were made. “It was an everyday thing,” he says.

“I Would Have Panic Attacks At My Desk” When Pham was a teller, he was told what kinds of customers to refer to bankers, but he didn’t see the full picture. When he became a banker, he understood what the company was doing, and he began asking himself, “Would I sell my mom this or would I be okay with someone selling me this?” The answer was no. This echoes claims in a law suit filed this week by former Wells Fargo employees asserting that they were fired when they followed the law, and refused to engage in unethical practices to meet sales quotas. “At a high level, [the campaign] is a message to all ‘too big to fail’ banks — they can’t keep fleecing people,” he says. “They do not have incentive to act in a responsible manner because they have the option of a bailout in their underwriting. This will send a message to end that type of behavior and allow Americans to really wake up and get a win and feel empowered.” The day after the first Close Your Account day, he said, “I’m overwhelmed but I feel amazing. I feel energized. I hit a gusher here. I thought what happened to me was my anecdotal experience, but … it’s validated by the outpouring of support on social media.” Read full article at https://www.forbes.com/sites/laurashin/2016/09/30/wellsfargo-faces-grassroots-backlash-via-viral-facebook-campaign/#75fef412f5ff

CNBC | TWITTER Photo Jack Dorsey, Twitter co-Founder Twitter and Square CEO Evelyn Cheng | @chengevelyn Published 21 March 2018 CNBC Source: CoinDesk If you want to sell anything, it is likely you will sell it on the Internet. “The Internet will have a single currency. I personally believe that it will be Bitcoin,” says Jack Dorsey. Billionaire businessman Jack Dorsey expects Bitcoin to become the world’s ‘single currency’ in about 10 years. Twitter co-founder and CEO Jack Dorsey predicts Bitcoin will be the single currency of the Internet in the near future, according to a Wednesday report from The Times of London. “The world ultimately will have a single currency, the internet will have a single currency. I personally believe that it will be Bitcoin,” Dorsey said in the article. He acknowledged that Bitcoin “does not have the capabilities right now to become an effective currency.” Jack Dorsey says Bitcoin will eventually become the world’s ‘sin-

gle currency.’ I personally believe that it will be Bitcoin,” Dorsey said in a report published Wednesday. It would happen “probably over ten years, but it could go faster.” In less than a decade, Bitcoin has rapidly evolved from being an object of fringe interest into a globally traded asset with a derivatives product on the world’s largest futures market. The cryptocurrency surged from less than $1,000 at the start of last year to a record above $19,000 in December. Dorsey has become increasingly involved in cryptocurrencies. In late January, Square’s mobile payments app Cash began offering bitcoin buying and selling in most states. Dorsey was also part of a $2.5 million seed financing round announced last week in Lightning Labs, a start-up trying to make bitcoin transactions more efficient. Tao Te Ching - Chapter 53 The Taoist Classic by Lao Tzu Translated and Explained (spelled exactly as written)

If I have just an ounce of sense, I follow the great Way, And fear only to stray from it. The great Way is very straight, But people prefer to deviate. When the palace is magnificent, The fields are filled with weeds, And the granaries are empty. Some have lavish garments, Carry sharp swords, And feast on food and drink. They possess more than they can spend. This is called the vanity of robbers. It is certainly not the [original] Way.
