“I would describe my fashion style as feminine and glamorous”
THE FASHION PACK FROM ROCK MY WEDDING INTRODUCES
CHARLOTTE BALBIER What inspired you when designing your own style of dress for your big day? I would describe my fashion style as feminine and glamorous and my own wedding gown for the day was just this. I wanted a gown that reflected my style, personality and that made me feel beautiful. It was easier said than done though and I designed well over 20 gowns with me in mind! When I slipped on my gown ‘The Charlotte’ for the first time I instantly knew it was the ‘one’ as I felt like the very best version of me, the real me. I did draw on some inspiration from one of my all time favourite brides the very beautiful Grace Kelly, her gown was timeless, elegant, feminine and utterly beautiful. For the evening I brought out my love of antique lace and love for all things gold with my second gown of the day the ‘Iscoyd Park’. It was fitted and glamorous.
Our shoot was at the stunning Iscoyd Park where your own fabulous wedding was held. How did you decide on Iscoyd as a venue? Choosing Iscoyd Park as our venue was one of easiest decisions we made throughout all our wedding plans and preparations. As soon as we drove into the stunning estate that Iscoyd Park is situated on I was smitten and when we entered the house I was sold! Iscoyd Park is simply stunning.
Your own wedding colour scheme of pink and gold was oh so pretty and glamorous. How would you advise our brides to be to choose their own colour scheme? The colours you choose can be dictated by your venue choice so I always advise the first thing you should do once you’re engaged is book your venue. If like me you decide on a marque wedding this is a blank canvas and you can decorate and use any colours to create your personal style. If you pick a venue that has a room already decorated in a strong colour for example a rich red or vibrant royal blue styling this with a pale Pink would not work. The venue is key to not only your colour scheme but so much of your wedding day, book It early and keep in mind colours.

It is often the dress you least expect that turns out to be ’The one’. Would you advise Brides to be more adventurous with trying on dresses? 99% of the time ‘the one’ is the gown the boutique’s stylist advises and is often not what the bride thinks they are looking for. I always advise brides to keep a really open mind and be open to suggestion and advice from the stylist who is doing your appointment. Relax, have fun and trust the boutiques, they are the experts.
How did Iscoyd Park inspire your latest collection of stunning gowns of the same name? The Iscoyd Park collection is made up of 25 gowns. Some of the gowns were designed with my wedding in mind and were very nearly ‘the one’. I also included my two wedding gowns ‘The Charlotte’ & ‘Iscoyd Park’ in the collection. With our wedding being at Iscoyd Park and such a special and magical day I wanted to dedicate the 2015 collection to Iscoyd Park.
Our model for the shoot was a petit 5”4 and looked stunning in your dresses. Do you feel your dresses suit all shapes and sizes or do you have particular styles that you think work better for different shapes and why? I have always designed my collections with all shapes of woman in mind as well as personalities and personal style. For me it has always been important to celebrate woman of all shapes, sizes and heights. My brides over the last 11 years have been a beautiful mix of sizes from 0-30 and all are special and beautiful. I do design some gowns with specific shapes in mind, i.e. small and petite, the classic Apple and Pear shapes, tall and athletic, curvy and hourglass etc. The Charlotte Balbier collection each year is made up of 25 designs that has a gown to suit every bride, her shape, style and personality.

RECREATE THE LOOK THE LOW SLUNG TEXTURED BUN 1. Curl through all the hair using tongs or a curling wand to create a loose wave and spray through with a texturising spray. We used VO5 Give Me Texture to help create a natural tousled look. 2. Using your fingers push the hair back from the front to create a natural lift and break up the curls. 3. Bring the hair into a very loose ponytail down the side of the head to secure the base of your bun. 4. Twist sections and pin to cover the hairband and build the shape of the bun. Because this is a natural, messy look it doesn’t need to be perfect and you can make it as loose or as neat as you like. Make sure it is secure with plenty of hair pins and then spray with hairspray to keep it in place. 39

THE FRENCH GIMLET YOU WILL NEED:
HOW TO MAKE:
• Gin • St Germaine (or Elderflower Liquoir) • Lime Juice • Soda • The zest of a fresh lime
Take two parts gin and mix with one part St Germaine - or Elderfower Liqueur if you prefer. Add in your preferred amount of lime juice and then top with soda. You can add some fresh lime zest to give it an extra kick! 43

KAT & GIZ : REAL WEDDING
The Details It was a very cold winters day when we first laid eyes on Compton Verney and it’s beauty is undeniable. At this time we weren’t even engaged, but both (unknowingly to each other) logged it safely in memory for when the proposal came and the venue search began. I didn’t want my hair to be immaculate and I knew I wanted a bit of life to it. I decided on a plaited crown which gave my hair both interest but a less traditional look. The Hair and Beauty Gallery in Warwick were amazing in pampering my mum, sister and myself leading up to the big day. Photography was really important to us, as these would keep our memories of our big day alive. I was lucky enough to work with Anna in the past before she was a photographer and so have followed her rise to ‘uber amazing photographer’ and had pretty much decided there was nobody else we’d rather capture our day.
My dress was Suzanne Neville, Palazzo. With a ribbon edged veil. Claire Louise Brides, in Bolton, were so amazingly helpful, and actually persuaded me to try the dress… it was the last dress of a very long emotional day. My shoes were Rachel Simpson, Ginger chosen for dancing and obvious beauty. I tried to keep the accessories subtle as I wanted to keep with the timeless look and not take away from the beautiful belt on my dress. Five Bridesmaids wore ballroom length twobirds dresses, the most awesome dresses, chosen so that each individual felt comfortable and could wear it how they wanted, also my sister was 8 months pregnant and it skimmed beautifully over the bump. I cried when Sally the florist appeared at the front door with the bouquets. Just stunning. Dahlia, craspedia, protea, eucalyptus, succulents. All bouquets were hand tied with trails of the bright ribbons.

ANNA & STEVE : REAL WEDDING
The Details We were quite specific on the things we wanted from our venue; we wanted somewhere that had beautiful gardens as we wanted to do everything outside from the ceremony, to the reception and dinner - perhaps a little ambitious for a UK wedding BUT Narborough Hall Gardens fitted the bill. We are both quite creative and had lots of ideas about the way we wanted to style the day. Kelly at La Belle Amour offers an on-the-day setting up service, where she will make sure that each area is decorated as you had planned. She was wonderful on the day and by having her there it took an enormous amount of stress away from me and meant I could enjoy my morning with my bridesmaids and family. We knew we wanted a homemade, country garden feel to the wedding with a good dollop of vintage and shabby chic styling. Nothing too pristine or polished, just beautiful and elegant.
My dress was a bespoke design from The State of Grace, a wonderful design studio owned by Lucia Silver and her lovely design team headed up by Claire Grey. All of the flowers were from Narborough Hall Gardens and put together by the florists there. The bridesmaids had small sweetpea posies, the groomsmen and male family members had sweetpea button holes and the female family members had sweetpea corsages. All other flowers were a mixture of peonies, sweetpeas, roses and other wild flowers. For the ceremony we had the brilliant Harmonettes who sing modern songs in a 1940’s doo wop style. I wanted to come down the aisle to ‘One Day Like This’ by Elbow and they arranged the most beautiful version of the song. In the evening we had a band called The Sonics - these guys know how to get a party started.

RECREATE THE LOOK THE FLOWER BRAID 1. Create a loose wave through the hair using curling tongs then using your fingers break up the curls to soften them and bring all the hair over to one side. 2. Lightly spray with hairspray to stop the hair from moving too much while you create the braid. 3. Starting from just above the ear create three sections and plait them until you reach the end of the hair, then tie off with a hair band. 4. Go through and loosen the plait to create a softer finish. 5. You can then add your flowers (ensure they have a long stem as this will make it easier to twist into the hair). 6. Using either fabric or real flowers work them through the plait, starting with the larger flowers towards the top. 7. Use a grip to secure and spray with hairspray to finish.

DELICATE IS... from some of our favourite bridal bloggers...
EMILY & JESSICA: BESPOKE BRIDE
...Whenever we hear the word ‘delicate’ we envision something handmade and so intricate that it captures your eye immediately. It demands that you pay closer attention to detail and is often the only one of its kind.
NOVA REID: NU BRIDE
...To me, the word delicate means gentle, with an air of elegance and beautiful vulnerability. Something, or someone to look after, protect, appreciate and treasure.
JULIA BRAIME: BRIDES UP NORTH
...Delicate, to me, is all in the detail: teeny tiny perfect stitches, little loops of lovely lace, petals, sugar icing and fairy light layers of tulle. Even if you’re a career girl who eats boys for breakfast, it’s fun to play at being delicate on your wedding day. Image by Cat Hepple Photography
KAREN CINNAMON: SMASHING THE GLASS
...Delicate not only denotes tasteful, understated, pretty wedding details, it also alludes to all the delicate issues that surround weddings. Who to invite? How best to ask guests to leave their children at home? How to deal with fractured family relationships? And of course a biggie on Smashing The Glass – how to incorporate, and enthusiastically embrace, more than one religion into the big day. This particular delicate issue can affect everything from what rituals to include, to who will conduct the service, to the choice of food, music, and even dance moves! Image by Babb Photo

MANDY & ROB : REAL WEDDING
The Details My dress was Esme by Jenny Packham, from white mischief bridal. I wanted a vintage feel and have always been drawn to glitz and sparkle. Esme had everything I wanted. An open back, head to toe beading and such wonderful details and shape. I made all the hair decorations myself using a collection of vintage broaches and some bracelets, necklaces, and anything else I could find, and joining them together to create two hair pieces that sat over my pinned up hair. I opted for a 1920s look, something quite dramatic. I liked the timeless glamour of the combined elements of my overall look. I opted to have my hair up, something very loose and nothing too neat, with loose curls hanging down and draped chains and broaches in my hair. My bouquet was made up of soft pink peonies a mixture of pink, white and peach garden flowers, Eucalyptus, Astilbe soft green foliage and Brunia.
The bridesmaid’s bouquets consisted of soft pink hydrangeas and white gypsophila. All the bouquets were finished off with lace and a crystal. With the amount of grey in my dress I felt baby pink would be the best colour choice for my bridesmaids dresses and pink is also my favourite colour. I also wanted a lot of glitz and soft colours in the decor. After our first dance my dear girlfriends brought us wonderful belly dance performances. I have belly danced for almost 10 years and it’s a huge passion of mine. In the day we had vintage vocalist, Nina Rae and in the evening we had Brighton based gypsy swing band, The Swing Ninjas and the Disco Wed DJ. McKinley Rodgers our photographers were an absolute joy to have around on the day, which our guests had also remarked on and we just adore their stunning work.

RECREATE THE LOOK HALF UP HALF DOWN. IF KATE MIDDLETON CAN DO IT SO CAN YOU. 1. To create as much lift as possible, blow dry your hair up at the roots. 2. To get the hair looking as sleek as possible, we used Bumble and Bumble Holding Spray to eliminate any flyaway or frizzy hairs. 3. Using your fingers to section the hair at the crown, lift and back comb to create a high section at the back. This will give your beehive some height. Go heavier with your back combing if you want a higher, more dramatic style. 4. Section the hair just above the ears create a half ponytail, lifting it slightly higher at the back of the head to emphasise your back combed section and tie off with a hair band. 5. Add a simple piece of ribbon or wrap with flowers to hide the bobble. Work through some Bumble and Bumble Spray or serum through the rest of the hair to complete your sleek finished look.

HANNAH & ALEX : REAL WEDDING
The Details The venue was the beautiful Chateau De La Ligne Vineyard in Bordeaux. Alex proposed to me on a vineyard in Napa Valley so it seemed a fitting choice. My dress was by Pronovias, it was actually a sample that was two sizes too big but the amazing and talented Clare Hutchins from Sposa bridal completely transformed it for me! We made it backless, moved the straps and after quite a few visits Clare had made my perfect dress! I went for a makeup lesson with the incredible Victoria Chiles before the wedding so I could do my own on the day. My favourite products out of everything I bought were my Laura Mercier radiance bronze primer... This is simply a must have for your wedding especially if you want a bronzed glow! My make up stayed on all day and night and still looked great! I had 6... Yes 6 bridesmaids and as we were getting married abroad I really wanted something floaty,
gorgeous and comfortable for them. I found these amazing maxi off the shoulder pastel peach maxi dresses from ASOS and a great price. I then added to the dresses and ordered ivory silk belts with crystals encrusted on the front. Our photographer was the incredible Anna Clarke photography. Anna and her husband Simon were an amazing team, they just seemed to fit in and it felt like they were friends rather than just photographers. We literally had so many amazing images we found it hard to pick a few to put up on the wall. Our Videographer was the amazing Denemotion. If you are looking for a videographer then look no further, it is worth every penny. We were not sure of the value of video but now we understand. Moments were captured that over time you may forget and now we have them to treasure forever!
